  1. Is there definitely a leak? I think mine's leaking too in that case. There's a pretty loud hissing sound! How did you test it? Or did you take it off?
  2. Er, I could name a few cheaper places to get those things, but to be honest I wouldn't buy anything BUT genuine VAG parts if it concerns critical components like rings, bearings and the like.
  3. It's the idle stabilisation valve mate. Mine sounds like there's an air leak too but I think it's just the "rushing" sound. Best thing to do would be to just take it off and inspect it to see if there actually are any leaks as I think you'll find there aren't.
  4. Funny you should mention the tapping. I get it too after a "spirited" drive, and it also goes away after a while. Can't explain it. It's as if the heat generated is expanding something and making perhaps a bearing loose or something, but that would be pretty bad! Don't think it's that!
  5. You mean Quantum Syntha Silver? Shell Optimax is petrol! Don't use petrol as a substitute for oil!
  6. @ Lizardracing: How much did the Rotrex set you back if you don't mind me asking?
  7. Oh, and with regards to SC's, I'm un-decided as yet. Rotrex is looking pretty tempting as it's so quiet and effiecient....... need to find out some prices!
  8. LoL! I think he's asking what supercharger I'm going for, and what components do I need, as in, "I might have what you need for sale". Shameless salesman tactic!
  9. LoL! Yeah I'm buying up components to go SC. Thought perhaps there might have been a relatively easy mod that I could try in the meantime!
  10. Yeah mine does the same. I changed the leads and plugs recently (No.1 cylinder's lead had broken at the plug and so was running on about 5 1/2 cylinders!!) and the pull from 3000rpm onwards is great. 750 to 3000 seems sluggish in comparison. Wish it wasn't though. Is there any way of sorting it out?
  11. Will you be rebuilding the engine before you swap it with yours? I.e. new bearings, rings etc?
  12. So you're not converting to ODB2 then? So it should be pretty straight forward........? Don't quite understand what you're asking. ODB1 head and Bottom end are the same as ODB2.
  13. Just went to pick up a battery for the girlfriends MK4 1.8 16V Dis-Astra. Almost screamed with joy when he told be it would be £30 including VAT!!! I'm after a set of leads for my VR and I asked them howe much a set of BERU leads were. £60 Including VAT. Ordered me a set. They're on the Fordhouse Industrial Estate just north of Wolverhampton. WV10 9XE. Tel: 01902 788887
  14. Well I've gotta take the crunch and buy a replacement on my credit card. Then sell the custom exhaust on e-bay, or privately. It would suit a turbo'd VR or MK3 16V Turbo perfectly as it's exactly the right setup.
  15. Ah then this may not be for you then....... it does sound good at ful chat, but it's the in-between bits that are the loudest. To be honest mate it's not that pleasant. Took it back the place I got it fitted yesterday and they tried to fob me off. The owner wasn't there though and the other guys said they couldn't offer me anything without him OK-ing it. Think I may take it off, sell it on the bay and get myself a Jetex.
  16. Seriously mate, you wanna swap? Mine's only 6 months old..........
  17. TBH mate it sounds like they may have done some damage, be it work-wise or more than likely "tinkering" wise that has screwed your alarm system. ECU's don't just die unless there's been a major electrical current through the vehicle, or severe mis-wiring, which there shouldn't have been if they were just changing the ABS lead and a temp sensor (By the way, what temp sensor did they replace? Some temp sensors should last 200K miles and more. Did they tell you that a temp sensor needed replacing in the first place? If not, you may have a good case,)
  18. Scorecard: **Looks** 10/10 **Luxuriousness" 10/10 **Patriotic?** 100% **Nostalgia Points** 10/10 **Drivability** 9/10 Now the big one; **Durability** 1/10. Sorry. It's a beautiful car. It's menacing, dominating, overpowering, you name it, it's got a bigger and better attitude than the most evil, quadruple turbo'd, nitrous oxide injected, super-charged car on the planet, but drive it more than a hundred miles and it's begging for mercy. It's a bit like a south london thug. Big knuckle dusters and scars across its face to make it look like something that shouldn't be messed with, and for the f
  19. If you really want frannybigballs I'll do you a straight swap with my costom 2.5" cat back system. Now THAT's loud. I'm getting it looked at this weekend as it's impossibly loud.........
  20. Nope. I'd advise getting the springs uprated though as the MK3 VR lump weighs a lot more than any MK2 engine.
  21. I will. There might not be play, they might have tightened them up too tight. We'll see! I'll check them tomorrow evening.
  22. Bearings all round were changed at the same time. Which is the reason I'm saying I may have been had. Bah humbug! Taking it back this saturday to get it sorted.
  23. Lol! You big show off you! Should be fairly straight forward mate. On the MK2 Golfs the dizzy's only held in with one bolt. Can't imagine it's much more complicated on a VR? Only thing I'd watch out for is the actual timing of the rotor arm. Make sure you mark up EVERYTHING before you dismantle it!
