  1. OK That settles it. My rear discs have been put on the wrong way round. I'll be taking it back this weekend. I've had all the bearings changed too. There should be no noise now right? So why am I still hearing humming at about 40+ Mph? I think I've been had!
  2. You should see the yankee-doodle-dandy VR6 Jetta on youtube mate. That's pushing out 440 ponies. Now THAT'S indescribable!
  3. Sorry if this has been posted before but I thought I'd share my find. Also, would this kit be viable? I read a similar post a little while ago and the response was a pretty unanimous "Er, no." Ad
  4. Hiya everyone, Just a quickie really: Which way round are the grooves on grooved brake discs supposed to be orientated? Should the grooves be pointing towards the centre of the disc in the same direction that the wheels rotate? And should the rears be the same way round as the fronts? Many thanks! Ad
  5. Aha, I've just seen the post a bit further down the page titled "Whats this?" and think I've found my answer, So I don't need to worry about the pipe not running back into the TB then? The other end has been blocked off as suggested. Would I need to keep an eye on it though? I was under the impression that the oil vapours might help lubricate the TB and prevent "throttle stuck open" scenarios.......
  6. Hiya everyone; Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here. I was in the middle of removing my carbon cannister (now done, breathe easy my BMC CDA friend!) and noticed a rather large pipe coming off the top left hand corner of the rocker cover. It's a the top left of the engine as you look down at it standing in front of the car. The pipe that comes off mine is just a big old pipe (what looks to be like a garden hose pipe!) that vents to the air. I can tell it's not factory as a) it's clear (stained with oil but still semi-transparent) and it's held in position with c
  7. Ah boo! Never mind. Was wishing a bit too much there. If they go for 99p they're a bargain! Might get them just to restore and resell........
  8. What what what?!?!! You obviously need to drive her a bit more, and a bit faster! What mods have you done so far? Anything to make the VR howl a little louder? I'd never go back to a MK2 after the comfort of a MK3, and especially not after experiencing the acceleration of one! Just need to get the charging project underway and then I may never go for another car again! Oh, and very shiny by the way! Good work! (I'll second the mudflap comment, watch the mud & grime buildup!)
  9. No really, could I roll/cut my arches enough to make these fit? I'm probably gonna need silly thin tyres on them to get the best results but hey, you can't complain at 11J rear wheels can you?! They've got 35 profile tyres which should help a little with the clearance problems, so maybe not too much cutting is needed........... :-p http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150149371347&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005
  10. Yeah I've seen these. Thing is, I have an alterior motive for getting a laptop, which involves my car. Think under dash shelf and docking station plus touch-screen monitor below heater controls.......nice.
  11. Cool, e-bay here I come! Now I just need to get me a crappy laptop!
  12. I think the previous owner took the steering wheel off so that he could swap the clock lights over (to blue, which looks naff by the way!) so I'm assuming this is why it's on. Either that or he disconnected the Airbag whilst taking the steering wheel off and didn't re-conect it. Either way, I read that the ABS light and Airbag light come on for a short period of time on ignition and then go off. Mine didn't, so I pulled out the lights from the dash next to the headlight switch, and lo and behold the plug had been pulled out of the back. I plugged it back in and the ABS light comes on and goes
  13. Hello! I've been trawling the net for info in VAG-COM leads and software, and I've found a few for sale on e-gay. Thing is, they all state that they're for ODB2 ECU's, however the connector would fit my 1995 ODB1 VR as I've got the 16 pin connector next to my ashtray. All I want to do it turn the airbag light off! So would the kits available for the bay work with my golf? Is it just a software issue? Here's a link to one of them Ebay VAG-COM Ta! 14. I'm still going come rain of shine. Well, rain in moderation. If it's torrential rain/monsoon weather I'll be turning around and heading back home!
  15. Turbo'd R36 engine? They could do the cheaper option of slapping an audi V10 lump in there, Don't think they'd go through the process of rear mounting a transverse engine when they already know how to stick V10's in the back of cars (lambo Gallardo for instance) Don't know if the V10 will fit though......
  16. The law has been changed and selling muchrooms dry or wet is illegal. In fact they can't even sell the grow your own sets. Yes mate I know. They're class "A" Drugs now. How the feck can a naturally growing plant be classed as a class "A" drug?!?! Some pretty potent mushrooms even grow in the UK FFS!!!!!!
  17. I'll be going! I'm trying to get some people interested from the Skint-AV (stoke based) club. I know Ickyketseddie is interested! I'll be camping Friday and Saturday. Lets hope there are some wet mushrooms there this year........
  18. Hello! I've got my hands on an aircon kit for a good price, but I'm a little concerned as to whats involved with installing it into my non-aircon VR. Has anyone done this? I have every part that goes with it so theoretically I shouldn't need to buy anything else apart from a re-gas should I? Cheers! Ad
  19. Hmm, what about leaky injectors? You using redex every so often? My old MK2 8V Git used to have a dodgy injector and used to be a nightmare to get started when it was hot.
  20. Magnacore 8mm ones are available for £96 from Europerformance........
  21. If it's at the top of the criss/cross area then it's full. If it's any higher then it's over-full and this might explain the smoke, but if it's any fuller you'll risk damaging your cat. Just run the car for a while. VR's use oil so it'll go down over time. Just try not to thrash it too much!
