Car looks good, wish I had a black VR6... Is that a bottle of Mer "polish" lurking beside a rag on the ground?

16" rims whats the best size tyre ?
Roan replied to daxmatt's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
To maintain the rolling radius they would have to be 195/45. With 6.5" wide wheels a 205/40 tyre would be a bit big and would throw the rolling radius out further. I run 195/45s on 16x6.5" rims. -
Rough Running, possible water entry
Roan replied to Rick_1138's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
When you scan the engine module in the shareware version of vag com, it should still show any fault codes. I have just ran vag com after my car started running a bit hesitantly, and it showed a faulty coolant sensor and fuel pump relay, both of which I'm in the process of changing (collecting parts today). -
Claying a car will only remove bonded contaminants, it will not remove swirl marks and certainly won't do anything for orange peel. In fact, it will likely cuase further marring even if used correctly and will result in the paint needing polishing back to perfection. If your inexperienced in paint correction I wouldn't risk attacking it with wet and dry, you're best to get a pro detailer in for something so severe. If you do want to have a go, I would suggest copious amounts of 2000 and 3000 wet and dry, and a good selection of polishes of various cuts and polishing pads. Go on to www.detailin

Did you sort the problem mate? I've ordered both sensors from VW as well as a fuel pump relay (got 00522 and 01259 codes on VAG COM). Hopefully changing these and a coolant flush will sort it.

Does anyone know for certain that 00522 fault code is the blue sensor and not the 4-pin one next to it? I can't get rid of this bl**dy fault code and the car is still a bit hesitant sometimes...

Sainsburys Super Unleaded is the same as BP Ultimate (BP supply Sainsburys) but can be 10p/litre cheaper. That's what I use and no problems in over 2 years...

Try quite a few thousand! Seriously, there's a bit more to it than just washing and a bit of buffing. Most pro detailers spent years learning and refining their techniques working for others or unpaid as a hobby. It also takes years to build up a decent client base too, and the work is really, really tough physically (and in all weathers). Marketing is largely by word of mouth, since no-one really knows what a £300 job entails and is quite happy to take their diesel eurobox down to the local swirl-o-matic at £5 a go. Plus these days getting a £300 detail is probably the last of peoples' int

5 minute job, but watch for the coolant flooding out when you remove the sensor. Get a clean bucket to catch it or better still, be prepared to do a full collant flush and refill. I changed mine when I got the same code, but it keeps coming back! I've heard of this a few times but no-one knows what the problem is. Let me know how you get on...

A good pre-wash/foam will shift most of that. A good few layers of wax will make it come off with a light contact wash.

The one on the right is your temp sensor (should be blue). About £15 from GSF and a 5 minute job to replace.

AFAIK it is not illegal to adjust the mileage on a car, it's only if you don't disclose this when you sell it that it's illegal. I don't see much point doing it on your car as you'll be legally obliged to tell any new owner anyway.
-
Sorry mate but they are nasty. They may have been expensive but they look like something you'd pick up in Halfords for £250 a set. If the car was lowered 30mm+ it would improve the look no end! Only my opinion but if you're happy that's all that matters.

Without wanting to piss on your fire, your paint looks properly dull (or could be the camera I suppose). Is there any protection on the paint?

HELP HELP and HELP Lumpy VR6 1996 highline
Roan replied to EugVR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Have you put it on VAG-COM? Seems like the best idea TBH. Mine was running a bit lumpy under load, turns out the coolant temp sensor was faulty. -
Like a fart in the wind... VAG-COM is your friend - the only way to tell what the faults are and if they are current or old faults is to read the codes. Someone on here might offer to help out if they're close by...

Lambda? Might be as well to get it on VAG-COM...?

Pro Detailers generally start at £25 per hour. For the level of work in that post, you would be talking at least 7/8 days work. A good level of correction on the average car including engine bay and interior would take a minimum of 2 days. The important thing is to maintain the finish by using the correct wash method and regular layers of protection added. Detailing World has all the info you'll need and a whole lot your wallet doesn't! For stone chip repairs see: Stone Chip Repair

April 2004 to December 2008. Must be a record for a resurrected thread! My biggest balls up was using wheel bolts which were too long after fitting some spacers. bent the ABS rings, which in turn destroyed the ABS sensors, which in turn knackered the ABS module. Cost hundreds to fix...

Bear with me folks on this one. I have searched this forum and others but haven't been able to get a definitive answer. My PCV valve was cracked and leaking, so I ordered one from Ford as you do. Before I was able to collect and fit it, I noticed the car was a bit hesitant on half throttle at low-ish revs. I put this down to the leaking breather. So I fitted the breather, and noticed there was a bit more oil around the old pipework than I had expected. I checked the oil and it appeared to be very low (as in, no reading from the dipstick at all!) Put a litre in and will be putting some more i
