  1. This is the daddy of all shampoos: http://www.bilthamber.com/autowash.html Lasts ages - only need 5ml per bucket. Great lubrication and foams well too...
  2. There's quite a few threads on it on Edition38 - there's a guide of sorts knocking about there too. Have a search - it can be done like you say, just a lot of messing about!
  3. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Google is your friend I run 205/40/17 on 7.5j rims, lowered 35mm and it rubs when I have more than 2 people in the car and when I go over bigger bumps.. Changing to 195/45/16 on 6.5j rims soon though.
  4. Sorry to burst your bubble mate but there are currently 247 petitions on the Downing Street website relating to fuel (not including the rejected or closed ones). As far as I am aware, no e-petition has ever made it as far as being debated in the HOC. It is worth pointing out that for every 1p reduction in fuel duty, the government will have to find £250million to make up for it somewhere else. We live in a capitalist society where we accept the effects of the free market as a necessary price of our relative freedom. As a fellow VR6 driver, I share the feelings of motorists as much as anyone,
  5. Pays scumbags to spend all day watching Jeremy Kyle and to spend all night throwing bricks at Fire Engines... :@
  6. It's ironic that fuel tax has actually decreased since 1999 but people are still blaming the government. People should be concentrating their energy on blaming OPEC, as they control most of the supply of oil and are refusing to increase it to keep prices high. Don't believe everything you read in papers!
  7. Gliptone cleaner and conditioner every day of the week for regular cleaning. But check out this thread for leather restoration/dye: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=33136&highlight=leather - amazing results!
  8. Make sure when you get the car back it has been properly machined, with no swirls or buffer trails - many bodyshops pay no attention to the finish. If you can see any defects, make them correct them before you accept the car back. There's no need for any paint cleaners or claying (a bit harsh anyway on new paint), so go straight to wax or sealant. Ditch the Megs stage 3 wax, it has no durability. Instead get some Collinite 476s or 915, as they are cheap and long lasting and provide a great finish for the money. Put on several coats 24 hours apart. Make sure when you wash it you use a good wash
  9. Yes Yes Yes Yes and Yes to all the above. The Valeo ones are better than the Bosch ones (hug the screen better) from www.wiperblades.co.uk Use some of this http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-amp-exterior/carlack-glass-sealing-kit/prod_348.html and you'll find you won't even ever need to use your wipers! It's the dog's danglies...
  10. OBD2 VR6s dont have an ISV. There's a guide here http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1116399 for cleaning MK4 TBs, but the process for the MK3 is much the same.

    Bloody ebay

Get the firefox sniper tool & win every time. Also, you would have to be a complete noob to bid anytime before the last 10 seconds of an auction.
  12. http://www.cosyclassics.ie/index_files/markonegolf.htm Imported from South Africa. Looks smart and would be a bit different to say the least.
  13. Fixed that for you mate, nice spelling yourself
  14. ATE discs and pads, over £250 worth. Have done nearly 1000 miles with them and only noticed this within the last 100 miles though.
  15. Got new discs and pads all round nearly three months ago. I've just noticed whenever I'm braking there is a bit of shaking through the steering wheel. I can't believe it's warped discs as I've had them on for three months and haven't noticed this before. Should I check the discs and wheels are torqued up correctly or could it be bad alignment/balancing? Doin' my head in... :S
  16. There's a guide on Vortex http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1116399 for a US MkIV but it's essentially the same process. It's a long read but the process isn't that complicated really.
  17. Clean you throttle body if OBD2 or ISV if OBD1. Guaranteed to sort that out.
  18. No special tools required, you should be able to re-use the gaskets as they're both steel. Just undo the intake from the TB and the breather pipe etc (take care of the MAF!). Six bolts hold the upper inlet manifold on (a couple can be tricky to get to but you can do it without removing the grille). Get a steel HT lead removal tool from GSF (the stock plastic one is crap) and you'll need a plug removal tool obviously.
  19. TB = Throttle Body :$ My advice is leave it well alone. Give it a clean and maybe a polish then stick it back on. Never had as much trouble with a modified part before...
  20. *-) Not since 1996 Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 Newcastle United |-)
