Is there actually such thing as a a VW Vento motorsport cup ? There's someone on ebay advertising one for sale, claiming it's one of only 5 ever made, producing 237 BHP as standard ! If so, I want one ! I'd love to know what they did to the motor to make it churn that amount of power without a charger or turbo.

I've got a 1992 j golf vr6, there's what looks like some sort of ecu under the passenger side foot well carpet, but my mates 94 golf vr6 doesn't have one, What is it and why doesn't he have one ?
-
Well as the gear box shit it self a couple of weeks ago i havn't had chance to run it again, but i've sourced another and it's getting fitted on monday, so i'm gonna run it for 500 miles and see what the oil levels like then. i just lost my job so i can't afford any more costs at the mo, just have to keep my fingers crossed i suppose. Yeah it was an itemised bill, nearlly 3 pages of it, alot of new bits and pieces.
-
Yeah, their based in wigan. I've been talking to someone local who works on them every day and he reckons to just run it for a few hundred miles and let it bed in again, said he's seen it happen before. Also he reckons that vr's using a litre of oil every 600-1000 miles is bull shit. I trust him as he's just finished building a mk1 vr6 turbo with 500 bhp in it, so he must know what he's doing. Can't get back on the road till mid next week anyway to test it as the gear box blew, so awaiting the new one being fitted.

I phoned them this morning and they said to bring it back down so they can take a look at it, they've agreed that it shouldn't be using more oil than it was before i took it down. Just hope they are willing to at least try and sort it out.

They phoned me to tell me the bits that needed doing but they could never give me a price when i asked. they told me that the piston rings on cylinders one and two were on their waydue to oil fouling on the spark plugs, but it was using less than half the amount it is now that i've got it back, is this normal due to everything on the top half working correctly thus making the pistons suck oil up into the bores when backing off perhaps ? If so, then perhaps it isn't their fault as i told them not to do the rings because they quoted me an extra 1500 qwid to do them !

They told me 350 plus the vat for the head gasket being done, but they kept saying that they wouldn't know how much it was going to cost until it was finished. I was expecting half the cost to be honest. I'm thinking about putting 15w40 oil in it to see if it helps the oil consumption, what do you think ?

I was reading a thread earlier from someone who ad similar problems to mine on his corrado, He was saying that because the engine was running at the correct temp now that he'd had the head gasket done that it may be causing it to burn oil due to piston rings. My cars oil temp has always been between 100 and 112 so i was wondering if it might need a new oil pump ? Are these expensive and costly to fit and where is it located in the engine ?
-
Right, just had my car at dub sport for a week to have the head gasket done and most of the oil seals replaced aswel, the head was stripped down, skimmed, de coked etc, new water pump and loads of other little bits and pieces. Anyway, the bill came to 1663.51 ! I nearlly had a fu**in heart attack. iI was driving home to cumbria when blue smoke started pouring out of the exhaust, this happened for about 60 miles and now it's stopped, i topped up the oil and checked it 50 miles later and it's half way between max and min on the dip stick ! Any ideas ? also my average oil temp is up to 100 under

Anyone know what the horrible whining noise is when i let the clutch up to set off in first gear ? also it judders when your letting selecting the other gears when letting the clutch up ?
-
The head gaskets on its way out according to my local mechanic, aparantley theres a bit of oil in the water. I don't know wether i should just buy a full new engine or get the head gasket done ? Also there was no thermostat in the housing, To stop it boiling over maybe ? I've only had the car for 2 weeks and i'm gutted !

Crunchy gears and hard to select gears all of a sudden

Forgot to say its a 92 j plater with hydraulic clutch. -
My second problem with the car since i bought it a week ago is all of a sudden finding it hard to select gears and when they do go in and back out when on the move, quite jerky. Reverse was stiff from day one also. Any ideas ?
