  1. yep, you pay for a big expensive brand name! not saying theyre not good, theyve got a long proven track record. but so have holset, and people in other car scenes have been using them to great effect for years. the swede's love em, and we know they produce some crazy powered cars! also theyre roots are in commercial vehicles, so theyre hugely reliable, but they dont spend a fortune marketing themselves to the performance market, which is why they can be priced more competatively

  4. i'd spend half that and get a nice big Holset HX40 http://www.g-s-racing.com/products.html things that shouldnt be skimped on are turbo and manifold. obviously you shouldnt skimp anywhere, but savings can be made elsewhere to keep the costs down
  5. mani should work ok as it sits the turbo furtehr down but like calico said you'd need to lower the comp and get it intercooled. plus the software they send wont be suitable for a UK car, plus youre gonna get stung with a big import duty and VAT bill people on here have proven that you cna get a VRT up and running and producing respectable figures for about £1k, you just gotta score some bargains, learn how to fit stuff yourself, and get friendly with a decent welder

  10. you can still use the atp and flip the turbo like you said so the inlet is on the passenger side. atp do a reacharound d/p which fits RHD cars very well is your spa mani genuine or repro?
  11. mine was stuck on for a while turned out to be the fluid level sensor on the brake fluid pot cap. replaced the cap with new sensor and sorted
  12. best to run a hose down to the bottom of the bay with the filter on the end, else youll just have crank case fumes venting into the cabin

  15. well at the moment he said he's just looking into it few people backing him up saying well he's unlikely to get caught but you gotta look at the facts. he either cant get insured on a 325 or 328 cos of A. his age, B. previous claims or endorsements. why do people do engine swaps? to go faster. driving fast in south london, youre gonna get tugged. and all the police need is a quick once over on the car and spot the engine doesnt match the insurance. anyway im no grass but 30 secs of looking and i found a vehicle reg off his old mk3 16v and an ad with his mobile number in really wont take Columb
  16. right, why is it these days people are quite happy to admit that theyre a knob jocky and willing to drive about with invalid insurance just to save a few quid cos theyre too impatient to get some no claims behind them?! following/posting on a thread on E38 about a guy who wants to convert a cheap E36 316 or 318 auto to a 325. basically admits openly he wants to do a conversion cos he wont tell the insurance. so he's got a slating cos he's a knob, and he's trying to defend it saying he doesnt care?!!!! i know E38 has got a reputation as being full of dicks these days, but im usually pretty adam

  18. before doing that, when was the last iol change? VW's are always tappety sounding so if the oil is old and started to break down itll be thinning out making it a bit more noticable
  19. i dont see the point unless you want a badly running and unreliable conversion? just set yourself a budget, work out how much you wanna spend max on each component and just wait for the bargains to come up if you wanna keep it cheap then go for lower boost means you can use a smaller intercooler off a saab turbo or similar, stock injectors and a rising rate FPR, and a turbo from one of the drift boys when they upgrade. somethings you cant really save on though like the manifold unless you want it to crack and falll apart
  20. go for the HX40 turbo. same price but the potential for more power. boost comes in later too so will save the strain on 1, 2 and 3 in the grearbox

  22. if you use 195/40's it should be the same radius as 16's with 205's
