I'm thinking of putting a rear wiper & arm off the mk5 gti onto my 97 highline. Is the length of this newer wiper & arm going to be right for the mk3 and are the splines on the wiper motors the same on both cars?

vr6 spark plug no.6 peaking oil
veedubyah replied to veedubyah's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
it has always used a bit of oil while i've owned the car, i have to top it up quite regularly. I use mobil super s 10/40 part synthetic, or service it gets quantum syntax from the dealer. It's never failed an MOT on emissions, smokes a bit on start up when its cold though. What is wrong for it to be losing a little oil now and again? Not massive amounts, i like to keep the oil level at the top on the dipstick, and every now and then it drops down to bout 3/4 on the min/max marks? -
Replacing the plugs on a '97 highline. Anybody know the correct torque settings for the AAA engine?

can anybody offer us any help or advice, please. -
no.6 cylinder has been leaking oil :-( oh dear, checked no's 4 & 2, both are ok........mmmmmmm

The no.6 spark plug on my '97 highline, seen it arc from around the bottom of the ht lead against the wall of the cylinder head. Whipped the lead off to find a bit of oil inside it, taken the plug out and the electrode was all black and the plug was covered in oil. the ceramic part of the plug had oil on it as well. Taken out plugs in cylinders, 4 & 2, both are ok have that burnt, brown appearance. What has caused this leak on just the number 6 cylinder? What is causing this oil to leak on the number 6 cylinder only? Valve stem oil seals gone? Or worst case scenario, piston rings worn? Hav

been to volksworld in louth Jase, they'd done a sterling job on it fella, very reasonable £750 plus vat for the labour & i supplied the parts (genuine vw of course)

thanks for the advice Gav.

Noticed on the number 6 cylinder, the plug lead can be seen arcing. Going to replace all my leads with Bosch B301's & spark plugs. Which spark plugs are best to use? Ive put Bosch single electrode plugs in last time, but thinking about swapping to NGK's. Which are the best to use?

And to have that electrical work done probert, was it expensive?

I've got exactly same prob on my 97 highline, vw diagnosed the front sensors at fault. Had both them replaced. Light still coming on, back to VW and still a fault with the front sensors. They did say the fault codes were cleared from the memory each time. Both abs light & break warning (handbrake) light on now. A strange, boing/springy sound can be heard occasionally. Any thoughts on this chaps?

I'd like to get my chains done on my '97 highline when I get the clutch done. Where are you guys had yours done? I'm having a hell of a job trying to get a garage to give me a sensible quote, they just don't want to touch it. And thats at my local VW dealer as well.

Had a quote to replace the clutch, timing chains and possibly the flywheel if need be, on my '97 highline, by my local vw dealership. They said they'd need the car for 4 days and total bill would be £1600!!!!!!!! 4 bloody days.........they having a laugh or what! What is about doing the timing chains on these engines that causes a mechanic to give you that "sucking through the teeth, ooooh thats gonna be......." then he runs a mile!!!!! my engine is of the later, OBD2 type an covered 108,000 miles. what is the general sort of hard & fast rule about changing these chains, do they need to

Strongly suspect the clutch on my highline is about to bite the dust big time, has done 107,000 miles. Acceleration, particularly in higher gears, is really juddery. The torque used to pull like a train, put now is getting really juddering & jerky until the revs get high enough. My local vw dealer want my old clutch in exchange when i get my new one, an have it fitted. The new clutch will probably be a reconditioned unit but will this be up to the job or will i be better off with a sachs unit. Its running totally standard bhp, and no plans to increase the performance, don't really see the

basically car jackers are sticking lil bits of paper on rear windows of cars so once you start your an look in rear view mirror and see this bit of paper, you get out car LEAVING the engine running and go to back window and then they jump in your car an drive off
