  1. My mate brought round his new vr on monday to show me, he said its got a bit of a miss fire so we have a look, i start the engine up and straight away smoke starts pissing out of the dash and bonnet! no fire thank fook but a part of his loom is fryed. its bare wire from the air flow meter right down to the fuse box all the tape has burned off. What i want to know is how difficalt is it to replace? what else is on that side of the loom i hope to god not ALL of the loom has to be replaced. it looks like that part is connected to the fuse box and not everything else. ANY INFO would be greatly rec
  2. Thats my old one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hang on il find some old pics out.
  3. tensioner = no but if you were to do the top guide then yes it does. Tensioner is just like a big bolt sat just behind the aux water pump, easy to change.
  4. had one lot done at 104k because it was a little bit rattaly only for the bottom end to pack in 400 miles later. new engine put in a bit fast as was going down devon for a weeks holiday with the family then on the way back top guide snaped of and the chain was hitting the tensioner bolt, iv never heard anything sound so rough! quick question - is there 2 types of tensioner bolt? its just that i have one with a nipple on the end and one without, the one without seems to be a bit shorter.
  5. Sure? I thought they were the same' date=' both 174 bhp? [/quote'] OBD1 were set at 174 whereas the ODB2 never had a set bhp, can be from 174 to 190ish. 186 comes to mind for a obd2 but yeah you'll be hard pushed to tell the difference. Im in paulton, about 10 miles south of keysham....nearer bath but i have a brisyol post code.
  6. dont think thats true, obd1's have less bhp then obd2's. at the end of the day always drive before you drive! oh and what part of brizal you from?
  7. deadline exstended till 15th of june so theres still time!
  8. worst case would be headgasket...but if the cars been sat around for a bit before you got it it could be condensation(sp?) in the engine. flush out the coolent and but some more in take it for a drive and see how it is. Also look around the engine block for any oil/damp patches.
  9. Try the ATF trick....... are you sure its tappets and not chain guides?
  10. cool, il have a look at my TB later. I know it needs a good clean. This engine does feel alot smother then my last.
  11. well i will still be poping over saturday but not in my vr.........il have to stop by and say hello to everyone.
  12. ah ok then thanks all, i found whats left of the tensioner guide......it was soooo thin that it snaped off 2/3rds of the way down, that left the tensioner bolt thing that keeps the chain tight pushing up against the chain......not good!
  13. the best news iv heard all year!!
  14. i was under the inpresion all coilpack engines were single width top chain obd2's and the double width top chain's were obd1's. so you lot are saying that i might not have been ripped off?
  15. A few months ago my obd2 vr engine with 106k miles went BANG! So i got a replacement sorted from a R reg highline even got to see and hear it running...all was good, picket it up a few days later after it was removed for me. anyhoo alls been fine till yesterday when a large tapping banging sound straight from startup. Iv taken the rocker cover off to find twin chain's........from a obd1?????? Now im not stupid and i know iv been done over and this will be sorted out seperatly(sp?)....I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE :@ What i want you kind and caring people to tell me is how come the engine is running w
  16. MattB im not going to make it now as rebuild is requierd. i had 2 spaces booked up so you can have them if you like?
  17. yeah had a service last friday and 400 miles before that when the new engine went in, had my brother round and he seams to think it may be a sticky tappet, gets very loud when you take the oil cap off. i have a new set of tappets from my old engine with have only done 800miles so will swap them over tomorrow. fingers crossed!
  18. Well it looks like im out :-( Started up the car an hour ago and i nearly jumped out my skin! sounds like a spanner in a tumble drier, was fine yesterday infact a mate said how quite it sounded. iv had no luck with this car at all, im now trying to convince the wife to keep it as its cost a few ££££ over the past year +o(
  19. And mine. stand back away from the car with the engine running and put your head down to try and look under it and see if it gets louder. mine sounded the same as yours and i thought it was tappets until i walked away then it got realy loud.
  20. He said twonks not Tonk (a)
  21. Im still coming but as i only live up the road i wont be camping and only atending saturday as my wife is working sunday............ wunder if i could pop over friday afternoon?
  22. in a way its the best thing that could have happend, didn't realy know how bad my old engine was until the new one was put in, the new one's easly a second faster up to 60 and easly get wheel spin when changing in to second now.....and its sooo quite too. New set of cams and a remap before the end of the year fingers crosed plus this gearbox idea would make a right sleeper. well thats the plan anyho
  23. ben could you post up the link for that gearbox on ebay please....would like to have a look
  24.
