[poll] Best tyres for my vr.
MrKeith replied to VR6MANN's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I just got a set of 4 Toyo PXT1-R's for £78 each. They seem a lot better than the Avon ZV3's and Pirelli P6000's I had on the car before. Lots of grip, no hint of wheelspin in 1st gear even in the wet. -
Slight problem, loose connection maybe

Finally got the car looked at today. Apparently the alternator has not been regulating itself properly and has been overcharging the battery. This has been causing my electrics to go haywire and the battery to overheat and boil out most of the acid which has resulted in a flat battery as well. -

No problems with blown bulbs or actually starting the car but a thought has occured, could it be the ignition system? I'm just thinking that since the stereo is wired into the ignition and obviously the dials wouldn't work either with the ignition off. -

Ok I still haven't managed to track this problem down. My stereo is now being affected as well, cutting out when the dials drop off but not every time. I also noticed that the windscreen wipers go faster. Someone mentioned something to me about a voltage regulator? Personally I've got no idea where to start looking. -

An interesting development! I was driving along tonight when i noticed that every time the dials dropped to zero my headlights got much brighter and would dim again when the dials came back on. Could this be a power problem? -

Hmm, does anyone know of a quick way to get at these points to check? I might have to leave it til my day off on friday but if it's something that's easy to do I'll take a look when I finish work tomorrow. -

Bugger, thought that might be the case and if it's anything like my MK2 was it'll be a bastard to get to. -
Hi all, I'm having a slight problem with my VR6. I was driving along this mornng when suddenly my speedo, rev counter, petrol guage and water temp all dropped to nothing and the mfa stopped responding. Then they all switched back on again and the oil light flashed briefly. It's been an intermittent thing as I've been driving round today so I'm assuming it's a loose connection but the question is where, can anyone point me in the right direction. It's a Mk3 VR6 with an ODBII engine and i'd really appreciate any help because it's getting a bit hairy going through some of the speed cameras aro

Cheers for the advice guys, the panel came out easy enough and I just disconnected the entire block. Car sailed through the MOT. Well I say sailed through, it did have to have a new headlight, door handle and cv joint but it got through and thats the important bit.

Hello all, Just a quick question, how do i remove the cover over the ABS warning lamp on my VR? I've heard they just clip off but I don't want to break it trying to take it off so some advice on removal would be appreciated. I should probably explain that the reason i'm doing this is because I have the MOT due tomorrow and my ABS pump has failed so although it's not affecting the braking it will fail the MOT so I'm just going to take the bulb out of the warning lamp. It's a '96 Highline by the way. Thanks in advance.

have i paid too much -rear bushes
MrKeith replied to mike's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Well I've just paid £300 to have my rear axle mount bushes done as well as 2 new rear shocks, a headlight and an abs sensor so £200 just for the bushes seems a little pricey to me -
Cool, cheers for the advice guys. The car is going in for a full service next thursday so i'll try and get hold of some Synta Silver before then. If I can't get any I'll get the magnatec

Ideally I would but I'm lacking the necessary jacks and time. Going on a long trip early saturday morning and working all thursday and friday. The car's getting a full service in a few weeks anyway.

Hello all, I've got a slight problem. My VR is in need of some oil. However I have no idea what the previous owner used to put in it. I'm planning on putting GTX Magnatec into it but I heard that it's not good to mix synthetic and non synthetic oils. Anyone know what will happen if I do mix them?

The noise seemed to be coming from the front drivers side somewhere near the wheel. I've taken the car out for a drive this afternoon, threw it around a bit and did some hard braking and it doesn't seem to be doing it anymore so it may be a case of crisis averted for now. The discs are fine all round but the pads are a little low on the front so I'll get those replaced sharpish just in case. If it happens again I'll let you know though.
