  1. I got me a BMW 330d Sport. I spent a lot of time thinking about these diesels and I came to the conclusion that it was time to make the leap. I considered a fabia vRS as they are pretty much the same size as mk3 golf but it just didn't have the pull I wanted, almost but not quite. I also considered all the petrol options of a newer golf v6 4 motion, a V5 golf, a 1.8t A3 and even a 225 TT. Sadly the 4motion is a bit to heavy for the power, the V5's don't have a good realiability record due to the amount of toys they have. These 1.8t VAG engine seem to be plagued with electric issues with coil p
  2. I sold my VR6 last night, it was very difficult. I'd just like to say thank you to all the people on here for your help over the last few years keeping it on the road. These cars are a legend and I'll always cherish my time behind the wheel of one of the best cars VAG ever made. I sold it for 30 quid less than I bought it for after 2 years of use, that says it all. Good luck guys....
  3. Yes mate.. Mine is a China special too. same issue. Rubbish isn't it, cost you 50 bucks for VW to tell you which wheel sensor has gone
  4. I did the front discs and pads about a year ago and it was pretty easy, I've been avoiding the rear pads since you need a special tool from VW from what I've read. I've got to replace master and slave cylinders, pipes and pads alround on my landrover next month, I'm just trying to keep stress to a minimun on the main ride. Fair play though, if I could have got a sensible reading from the ABS controller I probably would have had a crack at the front sensor
  5. SO it turns out that it was my version of VAGCOM.. playing up. The problem was a osf wheel sensor 210 VW want to charge me! but then it's 50 odd for the sensor and they want 50 labour so for the sake of 100 and not having to do it I'm going for it.. I've been without a car for 3 weeks now, please don't judge me I still managed to save 700 by doing the head myself so it could be worse... rather annoying given that I'm selling it in January to buy a Fabia VRs.. am I mad? probably, I love the VR6 more than anything I've had before but every dog has it's day.
  6. Sadly so, I could see only one fuse for the ABS system, it looked to be intact.
  7. Hi ya'll, So it seems replacing the ABS controller hasn't fixed my communications issue. I'm wondering if I have VAGCOM working properly and if the real problem is a sensor or something. It seem weird that I can't communicate with either ABS controller. Sadly it's my everyday car so time is getting tight, I'm considering taking it to VW to see if they can spot the problem. I'm unsure if the ECU needs reseting after I've put this new controller in so I've unplugged the battery and will go give it another spin in 30 minutes.
  8. I intend to test my ABS controller in another VR6 at some point over the next week. Looking on ebay for a replacement i noticed that alot of the sellers list it as a GTi ABS controller aswell, theirs is an all metal construction and the has the part number 1HO 907 379A whereas mine is 1HO 907 379E and has a partial plastic construction. I Have a friend with an 8 valve GTi and will take a look to see if it's the same unit and plug it into my VR if it is. I figure I can then connect to it via OBD andsee if it communicates properly.
  9. I'm starting to wonder if it could be a wiring fault, sometimes I get theVAG number from the ABS unit to come up when I connect to it. Can anyone give me a rough idea of where the bulk of the ABS cabling is? I suppose i can follow the wiring from the sensors when i get under the car.
  10. Howdy all, cheers for the tips, I fixed it yesterday after I figured out these fault codes don't reset themselves. Reset the ECU, fault codes gone, took it for emissions test...all is well! I just need to find the ABS problem now and I'm back on the road. I'm half tempted to just take it to VW and see if they can figue it out.. annoying that I can't get any error codes from the ABS controller.. or communicate with it in any way
  11. hello again, I'm starting to wonder if it's in limp home mode, i started it with the timing off before i lined it up properly. Is it possible this flagged up the errors and it now needs reseting? if so how to reset? will reseting all DTCs in VAG COM be enough or does the ECU need resetting? Mines an L reg Golf so i think it's ODB1, I've read that i just need to leave the battery unplugged for an huor and a half...
  12. i had to move mine out of the way to get to the bolt on the inlet manifold (should have fitted it while the head was off. as far as i know you just need some good leverage
