Evening all, I might have to make up custom mounts for a vr6 conversion but what I'd like to know is, would there be any running issues if the engine was to lean further forward? Reason being I'd like to lean it further forward to raise the diff slightly so as not to stress the CV joints as the car will be pretty low and I've had a couple of collapsed CVs in the past due to lowering. I'll be using balljoint extenders/modified hubs to compensate for the lowering. Let me know guys Kenny
Evening all, I was looking at putting a vr into a polo using the standard mk3 vr6 subframe, but the track is 120mm wide and the wheels I have from an old car that I wanted to use are ET0 instead compared to the vr6s original offset of 35 (?) so will have shed loads of poke. So here's the question, is there a narrower subframe that I could use? Or shorter wishbones that'll bolt up to the standard mk3 vr6 subframe? Any ideas? Let me know Kenny
That wastegate is absolutely huge, dunno how much space you'd have down the back of the block, esp if you went for a hx40. You can see it on the 3rd pic down here . . . . http://www.g-s-racing.com/dan-chapman-jdm-allstars-drift-car.html
I've got a couple of emails back from them iirc he said the hx35 would probably see full boost at about 4000rpm on the 12v but personally I think it'd be hitting full boost quite a bit before that as its not much bigger than a gt30 (i think).
Wasn't dissing or doubting the quality of the 35R, if I had the cash I'd be buying one, Just saying that seems to be the best place to buy them from, although the claim their hx40 spools like a GT30 sounds a bit far fetched, would like to test it.
When I asked about Holsets before I'm sure it was Kev who pointed out the exhaust housings are designed for diesel exhaust temps and may not take too kindly to petrol exhaust temps. If your keen on getting one I'd get it from GS posted above, brand new turbo, with warranty from somebody who knows what they're talking about, not somebody on ebay selling you an old one of their truck that they've heard can do 500hp on a petrol engine.
3500 was what I was aiming for, a power band as close to standard as possible but with more power, you guys arnt 2.8 anymore are you? 2.9 or 3L going by your pistons.
I think the 12cm2 is .87 A/R and the 14cm2 is 1.01 A/R, what kinda rpm are people with 35Rs seeing full boost? Just too compare. I'd been looking at the hx40 with a 14cm2 housing but if its bigger than the 35R and with a bigger exhaust housing it might be a bit too laggy, would a hx35 with 14cm2 be a better option, bit closer to the garrett?
GS Racing sell Holset hybrid turbo at very reasonable prices, few people on driftworks have used thier hx35 on 2.0L 200sx's with good results so with the right size exhaust housing I think the hx40 would work well on the VR.
Awrite, I'm looking for one of the above for a manifold but I can't find / don't know any sites that sell them. I know atpturbo sell them but does anyone know a UK based company that does? Cheers Ken
Thats a really good looking setup, I've seen a similar setup for 1.8Ts but it was just before the Cat and wasnt hooked up to any other system wasjust a short pipe after the bypass valve.
Would everything aside from the choice of 2 small turbo's instead of one large be the same as a basic vrt setup? Spacer, begi fmu, injectors, what about management?
Is there any performance gains using stainless steel as opposed to mild? I've got a welder but don't think its suitable for welding stainless and making my own exhaust would save alot of money.
Asking cos I can get some vag turbo's off mates who've upgraded thier 20v's are any off the kkk ones found on 20v's similar in size? Would be like a k03 on a 1.4L, I know that a k03s spools very quickly on the 1.8s but wonder how 2 would on the vr.
Evening all I was looking around the web after I got talking about twin turbo vr's and I saw HGPs twin turbo setup. It says on their site they use 2 Mitsubishi turbo's but doesn't give any more info than that. Can anyone shed some light on what specific turbo's they use? Power figures are said to be 403ps @ 4400rpm @ 1.1 bar if that helps someone hazard a guess. Thanks in advance Ken
