  1. Is the above method if you wernt gonna use C2? The extra hardware to run more safe boost (spacer rod and head bolts) is only gonna cost you $500 - $550 and isnt gonna take much longer to install, you'd probably wanna get the head off anyway and make sure there's nothing wrong, I know I do.
  2. Already have a manifold, which plugs you recommend? Can just weld a drain onto the standard sump.
  3. Awrite guys I've been trying to comprise a list of parts to I have some idea on how much money I have to spend, I've got a total mental block right now, here's what I'v got so far, can you add on other things I need/things I dont need . . . Ken Turbo Wastegate BOV Spacer ARP Rod Bolts ARP Head Bolts Intercooler Clutch MAF & Software 440cc Boschs Fuel Pump 4BAR FPR 3" DP & Exhaust Thanks in advance
  4. A VERY good turbo if you not after more than low 400's. Well I'm not after anything more than 400, considerably less than that till I get used to the car with almost double the power than when I bought it.
  5. Cheers guys, I think the GT35 is a little big for what I'm after, the car's driven daily and is staying a 2.8, will also only be on a spacer so dont wanna over stress the engine. I think I'll go down the 3076r route, would it be worth while getting the 1.06 housing and having it pull right to the redline? what the standard rev limit anyway 6.8k? Ken C2 PM'd.
  6. Awite I'm about to pick up a turbo as Friday was payday but I'm unsure what to go for. I originally wanted a GT3071R but I'm unsure of what specs I should be selecting before buying. I'm wanting a turbo that'll spool says 3.5k-4k rpm but pull hard to the redline, I dont mind a bit of lag. Options for the 3071R are Turbine -Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim -Housing: .63 ar, .82 ar, 1.06 ar Compressor -Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim -Housing: .50 ar (info taken from ATPturbo.com) Was also looking on the Schimmel Website and they stock a Garrett t60-1 turbo, which is a Journal Bearing turbo as opposed to the 30s
  7. Cheers for the advice Jim, I had the car rr'd 2 months back and it made decent power so it may be ok but I'd rather have a look for myself as opposed to just assuming. On another note I was about to buy a Schimmel spacer and gasket set but they come in 4 different compression ratios, whats best? 10.2:1 9.4:1 9:1 8.6:1 Ken
  8. Mate of mine just paid 750 for his, full 3" with one box, wasn't v-banded but, that was on a big turbo Ibiza which needed a pretty tricky snakehead made up though, on a VR I'd expect it to be cheaper as the downpipe is so simple.
  9. What do you suggest I do to check its all healthy? Compression test? The head definitely needs new valve stem oil seals but guess it might worthwhile getting some Schimmel cams in as its gonna be apart.
  10. I only I had the money for awd, ach well gotta be happy with what you got . . . . apart from how much power I have lol Cheers for the advice on the 24vs Kev but I think I'll try get a few days off work and get the chains done, just the whole guide thats on here. Worth while putting a low comp spacer in the now or will it be really low on power? Ken
  11. I was just looking on ebay there the T70 you have is £180 delivered that's silly money, if it did go pop what other components might be damaged? You got a video of your car in action?
  12. Thanks mate, I like the look of that one your fabbing up, how well do think that'll flow? Are the cheap ebay turbos worth the hastle? Proper Garrett GT35s are just over the £1000s mark, yet a similarly sized ebay one is more like 3-400 I wouldn't wanna spoil the way the boost is delivered. How does your turbo behave corradovr6nos? Thanks again
  13. I used to be a mechanic, but the only reason I wasnt too keen on stripping it down is that I've never worked on an engine which used chains instead of belts. CorradoVR6-nos I've just looked through the majority of your thread on the Corrado Forum, I really like your engine bay, the way your turbo sits etc, how much work is the involved in making the ATP manifold fit on a RHD car? Realistically I could have a budget of around 2.5/3k, after going through Jims thread it should be easy but looks like a 24v is out of the question lol How much can you get a turbo for? what you running CorradoVR6-no
  14. I see what your saying and I'm not denying that the the 12v vr can be a seriously powerful motor even if just running a spacer, but with a more efficient engine as a base you can stress the engine less. Power wise I'm not wanting any more than 400, or even that, my mates 'disco potato'd 20v seems insanely fast and its only running actuator pressure, surely 400hp is the max you could effectively apply in a FWD car? Any ideas what kinda money I'd be looking at for a rebuild on the 12v? I'd like to say I would do it myself but its my daily so need it off the road for as little as possible. Thank
  15. Yeh there's one on there the now for £1500 and one on E38 for a similar amount, but the 2.8 24v doesnt get as much attention as the R32 and audi 3.2 so could probably pick up quite cheap. How do the 2 engines differ? Is there alot separating the two of them or more or less just the R32 has an extra 400cc?
  16. Basically really wanting to have a VRT up and running before summer, get some 1/4 miles in but my obd2 VR needs atleast valve stem oil seals and chains/tensioners replaced so I was thinking of going for a newer engine. An R32 is the first thing that comes to mind especially as R32 turbos seem to generate much more power compared to a similarly spec'd VR6 engine, guess thats the advantage of an engine that wasnt first used nearly 18 years ago lol The trouble is when a R32 engine pops up on forums or ebay they go for an absolute fortune. So I was thinking about the 24valve VR you get in the V6 4
  17. Yeh looks a bit XS power to me, like I've said before the place that made my exhaust will do you one for £200 cheaper with a lifetime warranty if you have any troubles with it, plus they are in this country and speak English lol check thier site . . . . .www.meercat-exhausts.com Ken
  18. NEW QUESTION: OIL FEEDS & RETURNS I'll be buying all my bits separately (sp?) and not a kit, probably in the same boat as the rest of you guys. Where do you guys get things like oil feeds and returns from? waterline etc? Thanks, Ken
  19. Spa manifold £329 (from Strictly) ATP = $390 (from Schimmel) Kinetic = $390 (from Schimmel) Ebay Tubular = £650 I phoned the guy who made a few changes on my exhaust before I had it RR and he recon'd it'd be doable, equal length for between £450 and £500, Would the benefits really be worth it yeh, comes with warrenty too and isnt located 2000 miles away in another country if I have any issues.
  20. Now thats the kinda thing I need to be going on! anyone know where you could get the sections for making up the manifold yourself?
  21. Well the paint in my bay is in really good nick as it is and comes up great with a little bit of elbow grease. I am going for the shaved bay look but i cant really chuck it into a bodyshop and pay thousands to get it all done as its my daily, but I've already removed the header, swapped the washer bottle fora saxo item that sits inside the wing, replaced the power steering bottle with a polished item and repositioned it, have a battery box and earth etc in the boot but not got round to moving the battery in there yet, so its getting there, slowly. Also polished all the A/C pipes as i dont wann
  22. What t shape are we talking about here?
  23. Have any of you guys tried to make up a manifold yourself? I remember one of the lads on clubpolo years ago doing this when turbo'ing his gt, bought the flanges and then some sort of kit and welded it all up the way yeh wanted it. Just a thought as your all agreeing there's a big gap in the market for a decent manifold. Mind you I got a pretty decent quote for a one off tubular equal length manifold of arond £800, with the turbo top mounted.
  24. I think that would flow a hell of a lot better than a standard one with a big bend before the air enters the manifold. Still need to find a pretty good engineering shop that'd b confident they can do the job, any ideas?
  25. So you recon its just an adaptor plate that the guys made up, maybe a 135degree bend by the look of it? Lengthening to loom for the few wires that go to the maf wouldnt be much of at issue. Where do you recon I'd be able to get something like this made up? Engineering shops? Ken
