Thought I would post some pictures of how the car is sitting just now. Finally got some motivation back to finish the engine rebuild and get it in the car, will have more updates over the next few weeks. Wheels ideally need blasted and powder coated and still need to properly sort the ride height, I have added some fake all red rears as well. Slowly getting somewhere near decent though it’s sat about so long it needs some work bring the paint back up for next year.

So not updated this in a while but been busy refurbing the RC's for this year. So far I'm half way through but like so many times before a set of wheels popped up at reasonable money and couldn't say no! Loved these for ages! So be a quick spruce up with some silver paint and already have some tyres and various width adapters sitting there. VR6 rebuild is nearing completion as well but that will most likely get put in over the winter as I really want to get out and drive it this year! Sadly the RC's will be getting sold ( advert to follow once they are finished )

Progress has been nonexistent due to my birthday yesterday and the inconvenience that is work! However back on it tomorrow so should get the head painted and back on the block, can then start to get things built back up. I did manage to have my Brother in law blast these 2 mounts, some other things going to him this week to get blasted as well. Question is should I give them a coat of paint of do they not need painted??

Bore wear actually looks good, but yeah the gasket is a bit on the ropey side. Will be cleaning up the surfaces tomorrow, will post some more pictures later.

Well bit more work on the engine tonight, bit ott with the pictures but wanted to keep track of it all and some people may like seeing them? lol. Any way, cylinder head off tonight. Still one or 2 wee bits to come off like the water pump and oil cooler. Job for this weekend is to get the block and head cleaned up. Paint the block, head and gearbox then make a start getting it all back together. Head Gasket, Bolts and new crank seals will be here tomorrow as well.

Well finally got my finger out and brought my VR lump down to the garage at the house. So went out to the garage for half an hour or so tonight to make a start stripping it for a rebuild. Its been sat a while but turned over so easily. Hopefully get some progress over the next week or so. Plan is strip down and clean the block/head/gearbox then paint before rebuilding with alot of new parts lol. May stick some cams in while im at it if i can pick some up for decent money.

The steering wheel and gearknob were listed on a local forum, got them both for £25! Stupidly sold them a while later, seriously wish i hadnt now lol

UPDATE: Been considering selling my wheels and getting something new but can't seem to find something I really want plus the money i save buying new wheels will be spent on parts for the VR engine rebuild. So plan is to strip the lacquer off the lips and fully polish them up, thinking i may change the colour of them as well either Gold, Mystic Blue or keep them red?? Thanks! Tbh its pretty clean apart from the very bottom of the front wings. Noticed yesterday when swapping the wheels that they are starting to go, so will pick up a pair of replacements and get them painted along with the rest of the front end.

Pretty sure its just a standard Gti lip. I want to go VR6 lip but it scraps on the drive already ?

Thought I would post up some pictures of the wife's daily 1997 mk3 Golf VR6. Its a Highline and also an automatic, So far we have only done some maintenance work to make sure it all works right before we do any modifications. Having said that it does already have a full stainless system with 6 branch manifold and a set of coilovers. Plans will be fairly low key with it being a daily driver. We have some standard headlights to fit as the light output is terrible with the smoked units, also got some Rear smoked VR6 units to fit. I have a few sets of wheels in the garage including P

Couple of pictures to update this abit: Also a couple of pictures from a UKMK3's meet up in Crieff along with the Wife's black auto VR Highline and the Bro-inlaws VR as well: There will be a fair bit more work going into this over the winter. VR6 engine there to be rebuilt and put in with a smooth bay. Got plans for the wheels and a few other bodywork related ideas as well.

So either the Jag dimples or the RC's are going! Just picked up these for the mk3: also in other good news i have a VR engine to rebuild over the winter as well.

Bought another set of wheels for this! plan to refurb them and decide what to do with them. May swap them out with the RC's as they have really grown on my. The dimples are a wheel i wanted on my vr i had a few years back!

Forgot to update this, car is almost ready for a show this sunday. Wheels painted and built up Tyres on Stretch on the fronts ( 185/35 on a 7.5 ) Just coilovers and wheels to go on I have brought the front down a bit more since the last picture and raised the rear as the arch is on the tyre in that picture. Just awaiting a new tyre tomorrow as the front leaked badly. Will get some better pictures on Saturday after it gets a good clean!

Had a play about with the wheel i started polishing: Not great but they will do for now. Will get them over to Dougie eventually.

Well forgotten to update this thread and things have move on a wee bit since i last did. Some new wheels which are being refurbed: Centres will be blasted and painted soon, Where the lips are up to on the wheels: Then the car was dropped off at the bodyshop, Plenty rot cut out and new metal welded in: Paint then happened last week, still to get a final polish etc but starting to get there: Still along way to go with it but certainly looking much better than it did when i got it.

Just read the full thread, love this car and all the work gone into it! The difference in those bolsters is unreal, will need to see about getting someone to do mine.Thought i needed them retrimmed but clearly not. Also what adaptors and tyres you got on the RC's? Got a set of 041/042's that are being refurbed just now.
