  1. Quickest way to check camber is look at the wheels front on. When I had suspension bearings changed, they never set the camber right so one wheel appeared to stick out more than the other. Quick adjustment with a camber gauge sorted it.
  2. Get a mate to follow you, and see if it smokes if you let it over run and then put your foot back on the pedal. Shouldn't be any smoke but if stem seals are shot then you'll get a small puff of smoke.
  3. Mine was the same. Rubbed it down with wet n dry and everythings sound now.
  4. Mine's a milltek, designed to go over the axle.
  5. Gunson eazibleed kit to be precise! They have 2 lids with similar threads in the kit. 1 fits and 1 doesn't! Keep your hose pipe close by to rinse off any brake fluid.
  6. My mates used to blue smoke after over run and it was ok once the valve stem seals were replaced. Doesn't sound too good that it run a bit shit at first though. Could be water or oil in a cylinder if the head gasket has a small leak.
  7. Don't know much about macs but I know you can get emulator software to run Windows as a virtual machine. You could use vagcom that way.
  8. Yeah but you look more clued up with a laptop ;-) and the laptop tells you what the error is straight away.
  9. Open the abs controller on vagcom, click basic settings and go to group 1 and follow instructions.
  10. Yeah they do. Get one off a galaxy or sharan also. Think there's 70, 90 & 120 amp versions.
  11. All it tells you is the error code for the engine. Then you can either look in the book for the generic code or google it. You can clear the code's too.
  12. Not too much you can do really. Clear fault codes, throttle body adaption, bleed abs pump. When you clear the fault codes for the engine it resets all the learnt values for your engine so will need to learn them again.
  13. Not got them on obd2. It's built into the throttle body.
  14. If you got vagcom you goto engine controller and then basic settings group 098. Takes 3 seconds to adapt. In block 4 it will say adapt run then adapt OK. If your using eBay vagcom and your not setup right, you might get adaption error but it can be done ;-)
  15. If you unplug the throttle body it loses it's adaption and needs to be adapted. Either done through vagcom or without touching the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition to on without starting and leave it for 5 mins. There the only ways to adapt your throttle body and could cure idleing
  16. I've priced them up off ebay. Less than a fiver for the exact same bearing. ntn 6203
  17. Try the old listening stick trick. Long metal shafted screwdriver and rest it on the different areas of the engine / pulleys and put your ear to the top of the driver. You'll hear the rattle echo up to the top and it might help pin point your noise.
  18. My fan used to kick in at 96'c on vagcom or 90'c on the gauge. Not checked into it too much recently as my fans kick in at 76'c on vagcom with no errors showing up but my over run works fine. You need your fan control module checking and replacing but try changing the sensors in the thermostat housing first. Also, there's about 7 different pin combinations for the control module (located under the header tank) so make sure you replace with the same part number. The last letter has no difference really apart from the earlier letter (a) is older than (e) It can brake if water gets in through
  19. I've just changed my fuel pump housing and sender after the car fell onto a trolley jack on the tank and snapped the sender. All vr's have a 55 litre tank I think so it must be something to do with the sender. I've changed from a walbro to a standard pump so I get full use out of the tank. I'll bend the bar on the float for the sender and see if it helps because the one I put in was more angled than the one I took out.
  20. If you read the page your linking to, you only have to go to basic settings in vagcom if you've changed tps or tb. Don't worry about it on yours if it's obd1
  21. The pipe is for power steering. You can get them from scrap yards for cheap enough but make sure you use genuine vw power steering fluid to replace lost fluid. Most other pas fluid rots the seals apparently and a new pump costs a small fortune. I know from past experience!
