  1. Sounds like your clutch could be goosed. Does it do it if you change from gear to gear slowly?
  2. I think the pump your on about is the auxiliary water pump. Located at the top right of the rocker cover. It does most of the work when the engine is turned off as these engines are a hot running engine! You should just about here it buzzing for around 15 mins once the engine is turned off. Most people on here would strongly advise against bypassing it. If you've got cooling problems on the motorway, change your thermostat. It's easy enough to do and can be done in under an hour. You can also check for blockages in your coolant system whilst your at it.
  3. What was you doing when the temp got hot? (In traffic, givin it the beans??) Your thermostat could be goosed or your fans might not be kicking in.
  4. this is rev on my ipad with plx kiwi connected to my van. it plugs into obd port and connects to the ipad, iphone or laptop via wi-fi.
  5. I bought the earlier mentioned scanner for my iPad 1 called a plx kiwi. Installed rev2 and set it all up in my van but it won't work in the vr. Looking into fitting permanent +12v to obd port to power the kiwi. Good tool for general fault code reading but vcds does exactly the same thing. Rev looks good though, especially when you can put the screen from your iPhone / iPad onto a screen fitted in the car.
  6. I had the 'vortex' problem with my maf being mounted too close to the charger inlet. Moved it back 4" and car sorted now.
  7. The only buzz you should get is if your lights are on and your door is open. Buzz whilst the engine is running is a bit of a problem
  8. There both less than £10 each from VW. The yellow one has been replaced with a black one with a blue / green strip. It's for the fan control and for the aux. water pump.
  9. The buzzer is to warn you that the oil pressure is either too low or too high. You might want to check more than the oil temperature.
  10. You will only connect with engine, abs, immobiliser and airbags. Obd2 compliant is mk4 golfs
  11. 1000 from cold and between 650 and 850 once warm. Check your plugs and leads and get it on vag-com.
  12. Did you bleed the abs u it when you changed to 5.1 and does it make any difference to having dot 4??
  13. I dont drive mine too often now but i get 120 miles of around town to a tank which costs me 45 quid. I dont go below a quarter coz walbro makes me splutter. But if anyone fancies Stanlow Oil Refinery in Ellesmere Port on Friday 28th January from 7.30pm - 11.30pm, thaeres a fuel protest going on at the shell refinery. I'll be there and trying to encourage some other modded car owners to attend. ITS NOT JUST TRUCKERS THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THE PRICE OF FUEL!!!
  14. Find the bosch part number on here in a thread from a while ago. I posted it so people could search for the bosch number as its 50 quid cheaper than the vw part number plus you get s**t copies with the vw part number!
  15. Walbro fuel pump fitted (or similar)! I had the same problem when i first bought the highline so pulled the pump out to check it was ok and it had a walbro. The problem is that a standard pump has 2 inlets; one in the swirl pot and one in the tank so when your tank is low and you throw it round the roundabout, it feeds off the swirl pot. With the walbro, it has one inlet so when you throw it round, it gets a dry spot and you get the empty tank sensation! I get 150 miles to a tank on the motorway because of the walbro and the adaptor I got from Vince at stealth doesn't fit my pump. But im 99
  16. Whats with it and how much? I'll need the alloy cap too if you have it???
  17. Hello again people. What parts do I need to order if I get a mocal oil cooler off ebay? My standard heat exchanger is leaking oil quite bad now so need to change it asap and thought with my car being charged and driven hard sometimes, the mocal might be a good / cheaper option! Any help would be appreciated and any parts required or tips on fitting wouldn't go a miss either. Thanks in advance, Gaz.
  18. lambda coked up. my car used to turn over n over but not start then fire up first time the next turn. 1 genuine bosch lambda later, car starts perfect.
  19. Trust me, if it was the heater matrix, you'd know about it. I've had 2 go on me in 3 weeks!! Both spew hot water all over your feet and the carpet in both front footwells would be very damp. I'm loosing a bit of water at the min. Very smal hole in rad. No drip's, just steam. Loosing a small bit of oil too from oil cooler!!!!!
  20. i paid about £500 for everything from TPS. That replaced everything needed, chains, guides, tensioners, head bolts, all gaskets, oil resist silicone sealant, even flywheel bolts (they're stretch bolts too) Expensive job to get it done right!!
