  1. On mine there is x2 7mm screws on each corner of the splitter underneath. Take them out then give the spltter a good pull from the middle.
  2. I'll get the part number for the ecu tomorrow and its for a manual car
  3. I'll get the part number for the ecu tomorrow and its for a manual car
  4. I have a custom remapped chip for a 1994 golf VR6. I had it remapped 1 week before I supercharged it and it felt quite good. The car drove as if you'd just started it up on a cold winter morning. I don't rag my cars from cold but you know they are faster whilst cold. I paid £100 for the remap. Can have the ecu for £40 +postage. It has a socket fitted to the ecu and has a copy of the standard chip too. I also have a remapped chip for a supercharger for the same ecu if ur interested for an extra £20
  5. I used 5w30 on my last one with 217k on it! I'm using the same on my 118k one now!
  6. Your problem could well be a short on the control module below your header tank. Mine used to leak water out of the overflow which run straight onto the controller but mine made the aux. water pump stay on permanently.
  7. Well, what can I say?! I pulled 273 bhp on the rollers after Vince had a tinkle with my car. Said it was a good performance from that charger. Car feels fantastic!!! Think the remap was a very good investment and I have nothin but good things to say about stealth. Very helpful and informative (even though a tad on the expensive side)
  8. I'm not turbo'd but I am charged and I have a similar problem. Sometimes I can turn the car for 7-10 seconds and it won't start but the next time I try it fires straight up. My engine bay seems to feel a lot hotter than my earlier VR with the charger on it. Do the later OBD2 engines run any hotter than earlier OBD1 engines? My fans kick in quite a lot even though I have a low temp. thermostat fitted. I've not checked if there's a low temp. switch in the radiator yet but would it be worth fitting one?
  9. 55mm dual clip is the proper name for it. The cheapest place to get it is also VW!! Around £13 when I bought one. I'll get you the part number for it tomorrow.
  10. From what I know the early J & K reg. VR's have the short cat's fitted to them (by law they wasn't required then.) My L reg. had the longer cat but I only found out about it when I went to fit a de-cat!! I'm having problems with my milltek blowing from between the decat and center pipe. Is the standard 55mm dual clip OK to use on the milltek because it looks like it's crushed my pipe!
  11. Upto now evrything is going great. Filter is still clean, engine pulls very very well, just looking forward to the stealth remap next saturday :-)
  12. Now I;ve fitted my charger the car sounds completely differently again. When you just have the exhaust and a filter fitted, most of the drone seems to come from the filter but after fitting the charger and it forcing air into the engine rather than the engine tring to suck in the air it makes so much difference to the engine note!!! From idle to 4k you get the V6 rumble with a bit of a whine but after 4k it sound like an evo8/9 forcing the pressure out the exhaust with a lot of whine!!! You'd have to try it to believe it but damn it's GOOD!!!
  13. I've just had standard head gasket fitted to my car after the original head gasket went within 15 miles of a z-engineering stage 1 charger being fitted. Head was skimmed and pressure tested and upto now the cars been OK but I've not taken it over 4k as reccommended by Vince at Stealth. My older VR run fine with the standard head gasket and the same charger bolted to it for over 12 months but I eventually broke the car due to rust.
  14. I've left the plastic 'gauze' in the MAF which would stop any large bits entering the engine but I will be checking on it regularly just because of what I've read. I've also read all the info on the pipercross website and they reakon that some of their filters are made for F1 and rally cars which will suck a s**t load harder than my car and are proved to be the 'better' filter than the 'other' competitors. Apparently the problem with them breaking up was the bonding process because the vibrations and engine notes interferred with the bond's structure but now they use a softer and more flexib
  15. I've 'aquired' a pipercross filter, 80mm neck PK005F. It's only rated to 195bhp but it feels well on the car! It could be because the JR filter I had was very clogged but the car idle's better and feels a bit smoother. It has a wire mesh on the inside of the filter and I'll keep my eye on it and report back but upto now it's got my thumbs up. My only concern is when the weather gets bad and there's a lot of water around because it's quite low down. (10mm off the splash tray between the inner arch and splitter)
  16. If your after cornering ability, as well as coilovers the powerflex bushes are a must!! I found BBS Solitudes with toyo proxes to be the fastest, cheapest and best handling wheel / tyre combo. Of all the standard VR BBS's, the solitudes seem to be the be the best for speed and I've only ever bought toyo's for the last 7 or 8 years. But as above, on a 'private' road, learn your launch because it does make a difference.
  17. Im running BKUR6ET-10. Apparently they are better for the vr as they perform better when hot. They are for the 2.0 16v gti. Icould be well wrong but i've never really had a problem with them and they're factory set at .040" but i'm more than willing to try the others. I'm assuming the other measurements are in inches rather than mm / cm?!?
  18. Which joint are you on about? Hope this image helps When I bought the nuts and bolts for my downpipe to de cat from TPS they were copper locking nuts (No. 6) I also suggest exhaust paste. It worked a treat when mine was leaking at the dual joint (No. 4) PM me if you need any other pics or info.
  19. I've also heard the same as xyber. My old one run slightly lumpy sometimes with it removed, my current one is more responsive with it in. I'm charged and I think xyber is too.
  20. I've just had my head re-conditioned and new chains, tensioners, etc. fitted and when I went to channel 098, it says apt OK but when I goto basic settings it says adaption error. Its a 96 VR Highline OBDII
  21. I have a set of coilovers on my old VR at my mums you can have for £60 + P&P. There not 12 months old yet but I'm breaking the car. I'd fit them to my newer VR but it already has coilovers on it. the car was quite stiff but handled like it was on rails - could outpace my mates S3 on the bends which I think is not bad goin!! The engine got tired and it wasn't crashed. It's sat on axle stands ATM. They're JOM adjustable coilovers. PM for more info or pics.
  22. I had powerflex rear axle bushes in my last VR and I really do miss them. They made the car stiffer at the back and stopped a lot of roll. Good for tight bends and roundabouts, not so good for speed bumps!! I've had my current VR sideways on a few roundabouts and I blame it on the OEM bushes.
  23. I went with milltek cat back non res. Quiet enough between 65 - 100 on long journeys (I did manchester to wales and back last weekend) but you also get the sweet noise of the v6 when you put your foot down. When I first fitted the milltek to the charged VR, it made a huge difference. When I fitted it to my current VR without the charger it made a slight difference but I think it was still worth the money.
  24. I've been looking for a couple of weeks now for a filter that fits because a 150mm (6") base diameter filter won't fit between the receiver drier for the aircon and the sub frame but all the smaller filters seem to be rated to around 200bhp. I'm going to stealth at the end of the month for a remap now I've had the chains, guides, tensioners and gaskets done (all with genuine VAG parts - saved a fortune with premium membership at TPS Manchester) but I'm trying to get everything replaced before I go down. I've got all new silicone hoses from throttle body to air filter but just wanted a good f
