  1. You can use dot 5.1 but you have to bleed your brake system. It weakens the mix having the existing fluid in and the newer fluid. I use 5.1 and pressure bled it. A lot of people just use the halfords stuff too.
  2. Give the 2 pipes that go into the bulkhead a few squeezes, might unblock the matrix if it is blocked. Does your hot / cold switch for your heaters feel ok? There like a bike's brake cable and can disconnect.
  3. Big o shaped bottle with a blue or black lid. Should have a wire plugged into the back of it and should also be half full of pink fluid.
  4. The date on the back of your manifold is 92 which makes it obd1. It also has the narrow neck which makes it off a 2.8 golf and not the corrado.
  5. I paid under 70 quid for mine. Genuine Bosch and brand new. Search for the Bosch part number, not the vw one. I'll dig it out later if required.
  6. See if anyone has a fan control module with the same part number as yours on ebay. There around a tenner. The numbers will need to be the same though, apart from the last letter, thats just a revision thing. Other than that, try sitting in your car with the key out of the ignition and arm your alarm. Once it's armed, stick your key in and see if you can get the ignition lights to come on. When they fit an alarm, normally they just cut the wire that the ignition connects to in the start position so when the alarm is armed there is no connection, but if you have disabled the alarm then ther
  7. No, there sat in a bit of a recess behind the disc so you'd never get onto them without taking the disc off.
  8. Nothin to worry about. You'll probably get the smell of hot oil in your car though!!
  9. The chain type goes off engine number, not obd1 or 2. Mine is obd2 on a p reg and mine has double chain. Can't remember which engine number they start from but can be foundmon etka easy enough
  10. I got redstuff ceramic all round on mine, can't fault them even from cold!
  11. You would only be swapping the few bits off the top of the engine, not the whole engine!
  12. take the caliper off and the disc, theres 2 bolts that hold it to the hub. If the nuts that hold the carrier on are in bad nick, might be worth gettin some new ones from VW. think there about £1.50 each.
  13. As Tony said above, rolling resistance plus the weight of the wheels. Makes it harder for the engine to turn them. I went back to solitudes and now I'm on 16" BBS! I'd still have 15's if the brakes would fit in them!!
  14. I had a similar problem and it was the front abs sensor wire wasn't clipped in properly. It had touched the disc a few times when hot which melted and shorted it out.
  15. I think it's 2 years for the rest of the fluids apart from engine oil. I change my engine oil every 6000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first using good quality semi synthetic 5w 30. Changed my brake fluid to Dot 5.1 when I uprated my brakes and the rest of my fluids were replaced with genuine stuff from the dealers.
  16. Only use genuine PAS fluid from VW because other stuff will rot your seals in your power steering equipment. I think it's recommended to change steering fluid every 2 years.
  17. Yeah it will a little bit. I had a set of Kahn alloys on mine for a week, they slowed me down by around 20mph top end!! Didn't stay on for long!
  18. Get yourself a plug lead remover. It slides over the lead and you twist it to lock on the pins on the leads when you pull them. If your leads are old and you pull them, chances are you will pull the lead clean out of the metal cap! They come with the removal tool on the bonnet stay as standard I think but are a bit flimsy. You can get a metal one off eBay for about 10 quid. As for the oil in the plug hole, try pushing some tissue in to soak it up and blow them out with compressed air. They're known for shorting out when the plug holes fill up with oil or water.
  19. Damyouautocorrect.com. - missus will go mad if I go on pc now as it's in our bedroom!
  20. I'll post pics of the bentley manual up tomorrow but you bridge battery positive to fuel pump relay terminal 87 using a fused jumper wire. Fuel pump relay is located bottom right on fusebox. NOTE: TERMINAL NUMBERS SHOULD BE MARKED ON THE FUSE/RELAY PANEL AND ON THE RELAY BOTTOM Sorry but this is the best I can do on my iPad, missus
  21. I got mine brand new off amazon.co.uk for £32 about 12 months ago.
