  1. We need more info. Pressue distribution is handled by the ABS module, depending on model of car etc! These cars are very dangerous in my opinion when there are faults with the ABS etc, get it checked by proper mechanic if in doubt.
  2. Thanks for your reply. Lifters wern't done. Can they be replaced without removing the engine? How much am I looking at? Waterpump was replaced and I asked the guy to do everything that needed doing, so I am hoping the belt and bearings is fine (but I appreciate it could still be that!). Is it cause for concern? If so I might take it for inspection. Engine has only 80k miles and runs very nice (apart from this) so I want to do everything to preserve that.   3. Hello all, Hoping you can help. I've got an engine rattle on my VR6, I suspect it has always been there since I've owned the car, but I've had the chains etc etc all done recently and it is still there. I've uploaded a video of what it sounds like, as you can see it is coming from the drivers side of the engine, would be grateful for any advice!! Thanks

  5. You need to put it on VAGCOM and check the fault codes. Is the fluid level definately correct?
  6. The 80mph in 2nd gear is another good trick on the auto. Obviously, I am just guessing it gets to 80mph, I naturally lift off at exactly 70mph but observed it has a few hundred revs to go before changing up.
  7. Sounds bad, get it sorted before you have a fire on your hands or lots of damaged electrics. I have known the headlamp switches to burn and smell but they do not smoke, and it wouldn't come from the steering column if it was that.

  10. Synta Silver or Platinum is fine if you ask me. 10w40 and 5w40 respectively. I've just put Halfords own 0w40 in mine, as it was on offer at Halfords a while ago - bought about 30L. No problems. Still meets the VW specifications. Is ATF flushing still recommended these days? The jury has always been out from what I have read on the internet. I know the folks at ClubGTI seemed to be recommending it constantly once upon a time but I've not seen it mentioned on there as much.

  12. Replace the fluid twice if it has never been changed or not changed for some time, seriously. Do it once then boot the car around for about 10 miles, then change the filter/strainer on the 2nd change. You need to make sure the ATF temperature is 30 deg C when checking level. I remove the pan and clean it fully with brake clean When fluid stops running out of the hole "normally" immediately plug it rather than waiting around, this is because turbulance inside the pan will be splashing some fluid out still but it is at the correct level.   16. I think US panels are made in different factories etc to the Europe ones. Might not make any difference but just be aware.
  17. Unfortunately wiring problems aside from what I've seen that usually means the ABS control module/pump is defective, and you will need to get it repaired. I think it is quite common with these ABS units. If you google that fault code, you should get pointed in the right direction of complete diagnostics and maybe a good recommendation of a place in the UK you can send it to to get it repaired.
  18. I have researched this many times and I have never heard 1 single positive story about aftermarket wings, everyone said they had to bend something or another to get them to fit.
  19. I am not an expert but I would say as long as it is in good nick just make sure you de-grease it completely and then it can go straight over. No need to sand if the factory coating is in good enough shape and rust-free. The better advice I can give though is use bilt-hamber products - http://www.bilthamber.com/ - . You could probably use Dynax-UB and then use Dynax-S50, etc, they are miles better than any other stuff and if you don't use their products you will kick yourself when you get told about how much they outperform the other products on the market!!   20. Sounds like it could be the heater matrix if you are smelling the coolant. If it was a leak in the engine you shouldn't be able to smell it very much as the plenum chamber where it sucks air in is sealed off from the engine bay (even though that seal does get a bit weak in age). It will be leaking somewhere anyway that is for sure. Before tearing the entire dashbaord out probably worth getting it up on ramps and having a very careful look for any signs of leaking coolant.
  21. The EBPD is effectively part of the ABS, it could just be caused by faulty rear wheel speed sensors. I'd get it plugged into the VAG1551/VAGCOM diagnostic and check and correct the ABS fault codes that you are seeing, hopefully it is just wheel speed sensor faults and if you get them replaced, and then clear the fault codes, hopefully, both the lights will go away and you are spot on. If the control unit cannot determine the speed of the rear wheels it can't stop them from locking. Hope this doesn't appear condescending Most of you probably already know this but I thought it might be worth mentioning as it might just save someone "trouble", because the information is not readily on the internet about this. If your handbrake / brake warning light is on, it could mean the electronic brake pressure distribution (EBPD) for the rear wheels is not working. Technially, this should only be the case if both the brake warning light and ABS light is on, however, if your ABS light is not lit up, don't assume it is a faulty handbrake cable switch or the fluid level sensor, it
  23. I've heard that one before too but can't understand why VW would bother changing it for just 1 year and I doubt there was any legal ramification. I think B4VR6s idea would sound more logical if they were just geting all the covers changed as part of a policy decision.   24. It sounds very logical though, because none of the other reasons have stacked up or made sense. I guess VW will have one manufacturer of these covers and when submitted the change the VR6 engine cover got included.
