  1. lol with the veering to the left I think most cars do that..! some sort of safety feature where if you fall asleep at the wheel, you dont head towards traffic travelling in the opposite direction ... instead you head towards the pavement with all the innocent civilians walking by! lol Anyhow, have a look at both of the CV boots and see if any of them are split or have grease leaking out of them. Also, full lock the steering to the left or the right and drive around and see if there are any clicking noises. Other than that dont know any without taking the boots off. try googling 'check for bad
  2. might also be the inner/outer CVs? does it do it at a certain speed? or direction?
  3. Get a hacksaw and cut off the heads of the 6 star bolts that bolt the DS's onto the GB. Once you get the DS's off you can get the end of the bolts out with some grips or something as they aren't that tight.
  4. actually I do now, but too big...
  5. Lol I did that, I used grey primer on top of the yellow stuff once and the paint adhesion is better, but the yellow layer will still be crack-prone! Tail gate shouldn't be too bad as you dont get many stonechips on there Personally Id just use high build in the areas that need it (dips, cracks etc) and use acid etch primer on the rest. then paint.
  6. ive had that bouncy idle on two different VAG cars now, I cleaned the throttle body and the MAF with contact cleaner and both times the problem was solved.
  7. lol duno but mine came disconnected once, I just pushed it back in and it was ok.
  8. lol nah Id take that 650bhp 911 turbo
  9. Well, hope it doesnt happen again!! Another thing, why do the americans get complete new driveshafts for the same price we just get an outer CV joint?? http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_6_15_42_144&info=Empi_1HM407273A_Axle_Assembly_Left_New&products_id=1904
  10. Have you check the inner CV? When I took my shafts apart, there was a little play 5mm or so axially along the shafts i.e. moving in and out of the inner and out cv joints. maybe there was more play in urs than mine? Yours just gonna have to get it up ona ramp or sumething have a look at it underneath to see if anything missing or loose. The driveshafts are basically trapped between the gearbox and the wheel hub assembly/CV Joint , so they cant pop out unless theres play in those things.
  11. Hi Brian, This happened to me a while ago. However, mine came out due to the ball joint bolts breaking which dislocated the ball joint from the wishbone. In the process, the driveshaft came out of my outer CV. Ive taken my driveshafts and CVs apart this weekend and there wasnt any damage to the driveshaft like the deep scoring on yours or the CVs but I changed the CVs over anyway. Anyhow, the driveshaft shouldn't just pop out of the CV like that. Lift your car up and check for play in the ball joints and see how tight the ball joint bolts are.
  12. Amazing!! lol does the fruit juice bottle come with the suprecharger kit?
  13. There was a thread on the uk-mkivs forum about lowering and handling. There was a company doing some research and developing some coilovers I think for the 20v turbos. They used one of the guys cars form the forum, installed the kit they developed and aligned it all up getting the suspension geometry perfect and done some corner weighting/balancing thing aswell, then tested it out on the track. Anyway, The outcome from the research was that the best handling came when the car was actually sitting quite high! like 4x4 style lol, anything lower than that and the handling started to deteriorate.
  14. Yep Ill second using a hard block method for the flats and you can carefully use it for the longer curves aswell. Also, is it just me or is high build primer a really crap primer for paint to stick to? Its always tended to chip easily in my experience. Ive used acid etch primer primer and thats been much better for adhesion and resistance to chipping/cracking.
  15. also, is there anything useful I can do with my old CVs or should I chuck em? seems a waste to be chucking that lump of metal.
  16. lol just to confirm yes the standard hub nuts are nylocks so no heat for them!! Had a good result working on the car today, managed to get the hub nuts off in the end and smacked my chin on the wing in the process! Got them off using the WD40 and big bar, and full body weight on bar method! Got most of the old parts out ready to replace with new parts that should be coming in on tuesday! Had a look inside one of the cv joints that I took off and balls were really scratched. so in the end, I no longer have tight nuts, just scratched balls.... (lol!)
  17. lol yea your right better keep the flames away for now...! Seen this kit from the states which has more or less evrything I need!! http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_6_15_42_151_6567&info=OEM_VAG_357412331A.ZFTR.VR6.HD_Suspension_Rebuild_Kit_with_ZF_Tie_Rod_Assemblies_Front_Heavy_Duty&products_id=2956 Is there any place in the UK that supplies sets like this??
  18. lol thanks chaps, Ive got them soaking in WD40 tonight so Ill see how they are tomorrow. Got a 2ft breaker bar but might have to stick a pipe on the end of it! How bout using a heat gun to warm up and expand the nut? anyone tried that? Also anything else I should change while Ive got all those bits off??
  19. lol anyway .... Anyone got any tips on how to remove the front hub nuts?? Im planning on changing more or less the complete front end, tie rods, ball joints, CV joints, wheel bearings, and wishbone bushes within the next week. Ive already started on the tie rods, pretty simple to get out, but next is the driveshafts, and they arent coming out!!! anyone got any tips on how to cure tight nuts lol Thanks.
  20. Hi Kevin, Sorry it wasnt the outer CV that came out of the hub, it was the splined driveshaft end that came out of the wheel bearing housing. Theres a splined bolt inside the wheel bearing housing which it locates onto and ive been told theres a circlip that locks the driveshaft in once its fully located onto the splined bolt. I spoke to Charged VR and he mentioned that the circlip comes with the CV boot kit so I guess Ill have to change that over anyway as it got ripped off! Having a look at it tonight so Ill try get some pics if I can.
