    Hi Stuart, Do you do alot of short runs in the car? I know this is a cause of the mayonaise type stuff under oil filler caps. Usually happens in old timers cars. Might be the cause of that. It is an oil catch tank tho so i'd imagine you're supposed to get some oil in there. Are you losing coolant ? Cheers Jason
  2. Could be an air lock in the cooling system - i had the same problem . Cheers
  3. Have you checked the earth cable to the gear box ? Make sure your getting a good earth. I'd then check starter connections - are you getting voltage to the solenoid ?when you turn the key . Just some ideas . Hope you get it sorted Cheers Jason

    Which gearbox ?

    I've seen a couple of posts about 02/m boxes into vr s with different mounts What s so special about these ? I was just trying to find out if there was a recent vw box that i could replace my tired 120 k one .
  5. Can anyone tell me what gearbox is in my vr ? Is it an 02/j ? Are there other boxes i could straight swap it for ? What models would they come from? Could i use my own driveshafts ? Cheers guys . Jason

  7. Fixed the second coolant leak . Was very happy so went for a spin. Just as i pulled into the drive Big clunk then no more drive to wheels. I' ve snapped a cv joint . I thought you would still get drive to the other wheel ? I can select any gear and all that happens when i accelerate is the speedo goes up. Is this normal or have i knackered the gear box as well ?   8. I've had one of those days . Work was cr@p . Just finished replacing my engine so took it for a test drive . Firstly when pulling away in first the car groans for a second then its ok . I think its the clutch only does it in first . Any ideas ? Secondly burst a coolant hose ! the second one of the engine swap ! My question is do your coolant hoses go taught as if under pressure once they reach full temp ? Also what temp does your engine sit at ? Mine was about 90 degrees ? Im worried ive air locked the system as the heater matrix pipes go almost solid when hot . Although i do get hot air fr
  9. Strictly dubs do a metal replacement . It's about £52 but still cheaper than 70 odd for the complete pipe . Cheers
  10. I've managed to source another engine obd ii same as existing . Are they a straight swap ? I will also get the ecu do I need to swap this aswell ? Final question for now - the big engine loom plug in the bay how to I unplug that ? Thanks for your help Cheers Jason
  11. I was stripping off the air box to get to the belt tensionser. I noticed oil in the intake at the small breather pipe . Is this usual ? Anything to worry about ? Cheers guys
  12. Will the ford vr6 AAA engine swap straight in to my 97 vr6 golf ? the engine looks the same but will there be issues with ecu , gearbox etc ? Just looking for a replacement while i slowly rebuild my engine . Cheers

  14. Is it okay just to come for the day ? My car's driving me nuts , I'm chasing a fault , so i replace rear discs, bearings and pads . Only to find a seized caliper and its the actual wheel making the noise and not the bearings ! So i won't be able to get there till Saturday then I'm off on me hols on Sunday ! Jase
