  1. Yup, climatronic here! Are the compressors different to normal AC?
  2. I reckon the M45 Eaton off a Mini would be too small for the VR, something a little bigger would be better, say an M62 off a Merc?
  3. 106.9 here in cambridgeshire.....were not all doctors down here
  4. Ours does this too, I thought it was the air compressor for the air con, but I'm not convinced. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated by me too.. It is massively irritating, and even a little embarrassing!
  5. There is a Carnoisseur in Cambridge, so might have to get the plates from them. Good shout...again lol
  6. Best description of timing chain issues I ever heard was 'marbles in a blender'. Mrs B's needds doing sooner rather than later too :s
  7. Aye, I might well do lol Yeah it isn't that bad at all really. Not too hard, but settles a lot on the front after fitting, but I guess that is the weight of that lump under the bonnet. Definitely worth £150, all day long
  8. I reckon it's about 80mm, maybe a touch more. That's using the cheap ebay style coilies. Raceland IIRC. They aren't actually that bad to be fair
  9. Quick update... The Friday before Edition 38, Gav and Nik dropped a couple of bits and bobs off chez nous, and as the special super cheap coilies had arrived we (well, I say we, it was more Gav) decided to surprise Mrs B and fit them whilst she was at work. The man hard at work Well, when I picked Mrs B up from work, she didn't even notice it was a LOT lower, well not until we pulled away and she noticed the slightly harder ride Anyway, didn't get any pics straight after fitting the coilies, or indeed at ED38, so spent today washing Tubbs ready for pics and fitting the front and rear spe
  10. I would say it's supposed to be art!
  11. Cool, cool! Fingers crossed dude. Well, Mrs B has ben out and about today in her VR and its been behaving itself with the new sensor....so far. I'm not going to tempt fate though...
  12. Ah, Kev, when I said red herring, I meant as it being an actual fault as opposed to being caused by the lack of power on Z1, and thus caused by the dodgy engine speed sensor.
  13. Indeed dude, indeed. I just hope it has fixed it. We have Mrs B's nieces down for the week and the last thing we want is the car to conk out on them in the middle of nowhere. Fingers crossed it sorted though :s
  14. Indeed. I bought a new crank sensor yesterday (managed to wangle some discount and got it for £55 + VAT ) and fitted it. Took it for a run and seems ok, in fact it felt a little smoother, but I guess time will tell. Mrs B has the car today, so should be a good test for it.
  15. There is a guy over in the states with a 16vT Corrado with around 400 horses, and he gets stupid low 1/4 mile times, but I'm pretty sure he has a very tall gearbox to do that, thus getting the power down a lot better....
  16. Cheers James. Those threads make interesting reading. I changed the water pump yesterday and had a poke around the engine speeed sensor again whilst I was at it. Did VAG-com first and cleaed two faults - Engine speed sensor and Charcoal Solenoid Valve, disconnected the plug to the solenoid valve (behind the air box) removed the engine speed sensor and the sensing disc was all scored. It looks like someone has used some emery papar on it or something. Anyhoo, I attempted to flat back the sensing disc with some 1500 grit paper, re-installed it and attempted to start, and away she went. (with th
  17. Thought if might be, same as my fiancés
  18. No probs mate. There are also a few websites with lists of all the VW paint codes and their names....
  19. Look in the boot under the carpet and there will be a white sticker. 4 digit code will be the paint code LC5U or something like that
  20. That'd be good, cheers. Been talking to a guy at work, and he reckons that crank sensors either work or the don't so, I'm not so sure its the crank sensor on ours. The engine died in traffic yesterday morning, I funked about with the relays a bit, then it started again, 300 yards down the road it did it again, repeated mucking about with the relay and off it went again. Did some testing of the wiring yesterday lunchtime and all seemed fine, good earths on the relay pins, goood continuity on pin 6 from the ECU to the high side of the Fuel Pump relay as well. Removed the fuel pump relay and clea
