  1. Well, its back in the garage!! Bloody snow! it's nearly April and I'd rather like to actually drive it now
  2. After taking my Golf off the road for the winter, its finally coming back out to play, just taxed it and insured it, now all it needs is some fresh fuel! I've done 24 miles since November, most of which was round the trading estate at work just to keep the battery topped up! Even still, its managed to use half a tank of fuel being started up every couple of days! I shall be back on here more often now that its not hidden up the corner of the workshop, and off to the petrol station less as the 4.7 v8 Jeep I've been using makes the Golf look like a Prius!! It's good to be back!
  3. Have you got any pictures of it? And if you do go F/I on a 24v, are you keeping it a 'sleeper' on steel wheels etc or getting it to a show standard? Also on another note, I'd probably change your avatar pic if I was you haha.
  4. Two ways of looking at the video, one hand he seems a rather good driver (although stabbing at throttle and steering some may disagree) BUT... On the other hand he should be locked up for doing that on the streets, no regard for anyone else's safety! Opinions please...
  5. I used to have a few! Never raced them just for fun.. had a Kyosho Ultima RB buggy which I sold.. then a Traxxas TMaxx monster truck which ended up down a rabbit hole at about 45mph across a field pretty much destroyed the whole front end, chassis, drivetrain etc so I ended up selling it!
  6. The standard pipework should recirc it back into the inlet as standard. I would have a guess that the breather valve split in the past and it was cheaper to fit a breather filter than replace the valve. You need the standard intake elbow and pcv valve to cure it.
  7. Oops.. didn't read the description very well lol.. it looks like a Mocal sandwich plate, which use the metal OBD1 end cap (as in first pic)
  8. I can't tell very well on my phone, but the cooler looks like a mocal sandwich plate as it looks like there's 2 oil lines going to it? The standard cooler has 2 water pipes on it. Am I right in thinking its got an external oil cooler on it such as a Mocal 13 row cooler? as with these, you use the existing cap (in first picture) with the sandwich plate.
  9. Yep if you've disconnected the cable and it still does it you need a new caliper.. they are common for sticking. If the lever on the back of the caliper is still on, you might be able to tap it with a hammer and release it. Just to get you out of trouble.
  10. Dammit I was too gonna say that but you beat me to it! Haha Merry Xmas everyone!
  11. I have a feeling it was lack of oil changes that caused it! And surprisingly there was no big bits in the sump.. the oil just had a metallic sheen to it!
  12. It's rather bad isn't it! I couldn't believe it when I took the cam cover off!
  13. It's a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8v.. I can't understand how it still ran! All 8 lobes and followers were all like it.. and idle was perfect with not even a hint of a tap!
  14. Thought this might make a few of you laugh.. I had a car come into work yesterday, which would drive perfect but won't rev past 4k revs! Idle was perfect with no rapping or knocks.. so immediately thought blocked exhaust! So I carried on and disconnected before the cat, and still woukdnt rev. Having an electronic throttle body I though this might have been playing up, so put it on diagnostics and was able to open the throttle body fully through the computer. Just for the sake if 8 bolts, I took off the cam cover.. and this is what I found! http://www.flickr.com/x/t/0096009/photos/69075103%40N0
  15. PM TonyVRT on here.. I'm sure he can do stuff like that.
  16. Indeed they do Craig its rather surprising how much difference there is between 0 degrees and 20+.. I always go into summer thinking that I have an issue of some sort, when I think its more a case of warm air doesn't feel as quick!
  17. United motorsports can take your ECU and remove the immobiliser.. if it is the immob that is kicking in, the car should start for one second then cut out.
  18. It depends how they've gone, and who your tester is. We've had a fair few through my work, most are bent up, but are still strong enough to be classed as ok, but even though there might not be able holes, the metal will split and seperate which would be a failure. So it really depends on how strong the metal is, they will probably have a poke and a prod to see hw good the metal is. And I've never jacked a mk3 up on the front sills, even with the 2v poster ramp, I always do it on the inner chassis rails.
  19. Was this a £700 odd full turbo kit by any chance?
  20. I suppose I have 4 years no claims (5years in Feb) and both limited to 5k miles, even though I only do 3k between them.
  21. Can't help with the deals part of things, but I found insurance can be cheaper for less common things that you wouldn't dream of insuring. I'm 22 now and insure a VR6 Turbo for a grand and a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 for 500 quid! Whereas I know people my age paying more on sensible corsa's and fiesta's etc. My advice would be to try something different, after all the depreciation on a new car is more than the insurance would cost on other stuff, and not forgetting you have to fork-out for a new car in the first place.
  22. Mines not a highline, just happens to be the same colour lol I really like the stats bit, think that's really good, even with only a few in there at the moment it really gives a good idea of what's out there in a visual way. Top class idea you had with that
  23. I've edited my colour now then so its all accurate! Also, how about those pesky few VR6 cabriolets that keep popping up? Unless you add 'MK3.5 Cab' etc into the model catagory to save making a new question?
  24. LC9Z - Black Magic Pearl as a colour.. also how about a normal or highline selection? Would be interesting to see how many highlines are out there compared to anything else.
  25. Just make sure its cold, take the cap off the water bottle and just pull the pipe off. You'll loose some coolant but won't have to drain the whole system. You should be able to cut it down a bit though and put a jubilee clamp on it instead, but I'd have a look for another one just incase.
