I was told when i bought my car that the chain has started to make ever so slight noise, but that it wasnt anything to worry about until i got worse. My question is, at what point do you decide thats too noisy it needs changing?? Only reason being after not using my car for 2 days i got in, started it up and i thought it was rattling like a good-un. Turns out it was just noisy tappets as after 10mins driving it all quieted down and i was revving it once stopped at work and there was only very very slight noise. I'm really not looking forward to possibly spending £800 on a car which i bought

Most definitely!!! it may not be a THAT much faster, But handles better, build quailty is on another level, its easier and cheaper to get more power. £400 quid gets your 265Bhp reliably. But its one of those cars which is harder to work on yourself and there is alot more to go wrong, 4x4 etc. Closest match to the VR i can think of so far is the E30 325.. it makes a noise just as nice, is faster (IMO), More fun (RWD) but its much older, prone to rust and uses far more petrol. 20mpg if your lucky! + 325 sports are worth mega money these days!!! no idea why but some mugs pay £5k+ for them!

Yeah and that was in the evening after a day of melting!! Sold the S3 to kick start my save for a house deposit!! wanted a cheap run around hence the VR, nieve eh.....

Mine is a 96 OBD2, Havent checked for leaks yet.... will do that today. As for coolant temp sensor... its started AFTER i've changed the crack pipe and the 2 sender units on-top of the oil filter housing. i guess i could of banged a sensor unit somewhere?? is the green wire to the left of the sender units coolant temp??

sorry to bring up a dead thread but my car is doing this exact thing?? anybody know what it could be?? it idles below 500 and once warm just stays running but when cold just dies Thanks in adv.. Graham
