  1. Managed to bash a socket on the intermiate and get it off. Cheers
  2. Is it a good idea to have the flywheel lightened when you are building a VRT or not? And has anyone done it? On a N/A i can see it being a good idea to make it more revy, but on a VRT would it be over kill?
  3. Are they reverse threaded to remove? Or not? Putting the upper timing chain on an engine in my garage and the last owner has chewed the bolt that holds the intermidiate sprocket, so i want to remove the cam shaft sprocket to get the chains on. Obviously its torqued on hard and i presumed it would be reverse threaded, so clockwise to undo? Or am i mistaken. Anyone? Mike
  4. Could do dude, im going to give it a go tomo and see what i can use around the garage. But if not that would be an awesome help!
  5. Prefer to get dirty and have a bit of fun, cant wait to get the VR turbo running! haha. Although i did chequebook my paint work... lol 115bhp 8v to 280bhp+ Ha....good times.
  6. Yeah, i think i will sort it out by the end of the week. When we were stripping the engine down aaron just wacked out his premium on his phone to find a guide about something we were taking apart. This forum is amazing, so much more informative that others, and actually has members that have done things, rather than just making it up....
  7. That could work! At the moment im making something out of my national insurance card a few other random cards in my wallet. But a C spanner could work, mine is fairly thick but wil give it a shot! Need to buy premium membership on here soooo bad.
  8. Cheers dude. Think you said you should be coming to an eastcoastdubs meet soon if you can? I go to all of them, and i am buiding it with aaron? He said today that he had been over yours to collect some bits. Will definetly take you up on the offer when i start dumping the engine in the car and need to work out where to put bits. Cheers mate Get along to east coast dubs, good people
  9. Yeah, im toying with not putting the ARP bolts in, and running less than 300bhp. And then maybe fitting new arp bolts with a cam and pairing up the job etc. Hmmm never mind, the build goes on!!! Really need to start a build thread on here too. ha
  10. Yeah, thats not too much of a problem, i understand that totally, and how to time the engine. Its just that nowhere talks about timing an engine if you havnt set the head to tdc1 before removing it, and i didnt realise the cam tool only fits one way. Im currnelty making a home made cam locking tool from bits and bobs, ha!
  11. Yeah thought as much, really shouldnt have been sooo gun ho today! Ha.
  12. Ok. Would i still be able to use the head gasket that i have fitted today? Baring in mind the engine wont have ran. Unsure on if once a headgasket has been fitted one and bolted down, if it can be used again?
  13. Is it ok to swap them one by one with the standard bolts, without removing the head? The engine has had a new head gasket on and a C2 spacer today, but i didnt have the arp bolts to fit when the head came off but wanted the engine back together to paint etc. The engine wont be running between fitting the new bolts and now but didnt know if it would damage the seal with the gasket by removing and swapping the bolts one by one at a later date.
  14. ok. So i can only fit the tool in with the cams rotated one way around? As i dont want to put the head in with the 50/50 chance that the cams are 180degrees out. Do you know if euros/dealer sell the cam locking tool? As would like to pick one up tomo if possible. Cheers for your help
  15. Cheers. That pic was off a thread on vortex. I understand that if i spin the right hand cam so that the valves on cylinder 1 are up so they dont hit the piston on tdc. But where should the vales be on cam 2? Problem is i can just stick the tools in as above, as the head is not on the car, so i need to know which way around the cams should be before i stick the tools in? Make sense? Sorry for poor explanation.
  16. Basically i need to know how to set the cams to TDC1 when they are not attached to the chains an engine. As the head is off the car and the cams+valves are not at tdc1. So then i can set the lower chain and imtermidiate sprocket to tdc1 and put the head on and time it up.
  17. Today basically me and a mate (aaronmk2) took the chains and head of my VR engine to fit a spacer headgasket. And then to refit new chains, guides tensioners. Problem i have is, i didnt set the head to TDC1 and lock it before i took it off. So now i have an engine that is completly untimed, including the head. And im a bit stuck on how to get the head back to TDC1 to put it back on the engine and time, also the pistons are not in there relevant position. I have a VR6 pocket manual which is about as good as a hernia. Any help anyone? :/
  18. Its the sensor gone for your abs problem. In the past 2 years i have replaced all of mine twice nearly. Unfortunatly they do break fairly easy. Its a really easy job to remove them. There is a guide here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=57396.0
  19. Hi kev, Yeah that sounds great if i could have a butchers at your instal. I think i will try one of these manifolds, for the price whats the worst that could happen! ha. Cheers for the input, been reading up on your instal, i will just do the same by moving the brake fluid bottle, probably wont be using a turbo as big as yours! lol
  20. put it in a mk2, that should sort out your problems. Haha. Failing that...... F/I
  21. I just re read this and reaslised i typred rhd when i meant lhd, and lhd when i meant rhd! What a retard. Ha!
  22. Too true, too true! But cant beat a bit of turbo action. Just searching his thread now, read it yesterday but i thought he used a rhd manifold.
