Engine / Gearbox mount removal
golf harris replied to pete23's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
do it from the top mate its simple! no need for the angled "adaptor" all you need is a extension piece, think i used a 10" extension. ,crack the top bolt off the gb mount ,jack engine of the sump use a good bit of timber a foot long piece 4x2 is good to brace the sump ,jack up engine undo the 2 bolts which hold the gb mount in its cup ,undo the dog leg enough to wiggle out the mount pop new one in (i used a vibra technics mount 100% better than the oe mount) then put it back together as you pulled it apart .i did it in a hour but could half that now once you have done it after the first time i -

if your talking about the clip in side strips that push in the side skirt then part no. is 1H0853986B41 for drivers side (no this as i just bought one from vw) and 1H0853941 pass side (not 100% on this one but im sure if you give them the drivers side part no. they will offer you either one as they both come up on there parts computer) price £30.01 all in......... for one side!!
-
cheers chaps so i need to get that aux pump replaced asap as i defo cant recall that ever being on after engine is switched off since my girlfriend has owned the car! is it damaging the engine if it has not been running? so to replace it its just a case of unclipping the old part and popping in the new one? biliner we will have to hook up one afternoon as im just outside ipswich and i cant find anyone around here with the golf vr6 to chat too!!

Chugging SC VR6 - not running on all cylinders
golf harris replied to VRTDan's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems

Chugging SC VR6 - not running on all cylinders
golf harris replied to VRTDan's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
the body kit is the giverway and the non colour coded door rubs, think as a rule obd1 cars has these and the newer ,n reg on i think ( obd2 cars ) deleted the body kit and had colour coded door rubs plus other parts ie,coil pack, better throttle body....but your car from what i know probably has a dizzy cap so i would check that out as that will cause missfires also if its old and all the contacts have worn away, check it out!! -
Chugging SC VR6 - not running on all cylinders
golf harris replied to VRTDan's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
quite possible that you have a crack in your coil pack and moisture getting in causing missfires, but looking at your profile photo you have the older obd 1 model with a dizzy cap, think im right anyway... unless some of the bodykitted older ones had coilpacks too??? -
Chugging SC VR6 - not running on all cylinders
golf harris replied to VRTDan's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
this happend to my missus 97 vr6, running fine one minute then firing on 3/4 cylinders and that was the coil pack had a hair line crack running across it hardly even noticeable really, changed it for a ford galaxy vr6 coilpack and all sweet after that.i also agree with what ,MJ vr6, said in his post that they can just call last orders and die with no visual signs!! get a second hand ford galaxy vr6 one to try as for some reason there a lot cheaper (but identical parts ,even has the vag stamp on it) than a second hand golf vr6 one, -
cheers matey will get it ordered on sat now! what sort of £ am i looking at for these from the vw stealer?
-
drivers side mate! you got the part no.?
-
any one got the vw part no. for the side skirt insert strip the bit which runs front to back(one which rusts under the plastic) for a 97 vr6 obd2 model. sure this is a common problem with this part? cheers
-
sorry to hijack:),but the missus car is in need of this clip in part of the side skirt as its rusted under the plastic which has blown the plastic off ( the bit which clips in and runs from front to back in the skirt) has any one got the part no. from vw as its making the car look untidy.cheers.oh its a 97 vr6 obd2 non highline
-
ok mate cheers for the info !! seems a bit stupid not to change it, all oil gets old in my eyes and having lots of teeth in the gear box churning it up must get mucky and old and its no difference to having to change the engine oil every 4000 miles, thats my 2p worth anyway ,hope your gb oil change goes well anyway cos that sh;t stinks if you get it on your clothes!!!
-
cheers matey, does anyone know if gsf have the correct stuff or is it vw only? how much £ ? part no.would be cool too! think its 2L to fill up is that correct, cheers all
-
think i can answer this bit my self after a bit of serching:) no the drain plug is a 17mm plug under the box not the VW badge thing!. top up is on the side , still if some one could tell me what oil from the local motor factors, cheers
-
been asked a million times no doubt but i want to change the gb oil on the vr6 and was wondering if the drain plug on box is the one which has the VW logo on it with 2 bolts either side???if not where? and the top up is the big allen headed bolt just above it if some one could tell me what size that is too, 17mm maybe? will 75w 90 gearbox oil be ok or what would you reccomend from gsf, halfrauds? could some one get back to me about the drain plug as its really the only thing im not that sure on to get cracking on with it .thanks in advance.

vibra technic gearbox mount...then whine!!
golf harris replied to golf harris's topic in Transmission
yeah my"her" changes are fine, nice and quick and positive but just lacks that "springy" feel and like you say it needs to be shorter a short shifter would be nice but being my ladies car im sure i would get moaned at like im getting it in the ear for the upgraded mounts but i told her the engine would blow up if i didnt put them on lol:) dont think she belived me...?! just hope that whine is down to the new vt gb mount! -
vibra technic gearbox mount...then whine!!
golf harris replied to golf harris's topic in Transmission
so you have a slop box too !!i found parts for a mk1/mk2 but not the 3 there must be something as most cars there are upgrade kits (kids scooter wheel bearings of all things). think its the only thing that ruins the drive cos its as smooth as a peach other wise. -
vibra technic gearbox mount...then whine!!
golf harris replied to golf harris's topic in Transmission
oh good! thought i had f^cked the gear box up just by fitting it. also is there any gear linkage bushes that can tighten up the gear change? as its a bit sloppy (stirring gravy springs to mind)!!!
