    He will mean that they can spin freely, so are they really done up tight enough so that the tapered shaft has seated enough and doesn't still spin, obviously if it isn't up enough it will have vertical up and down movement.

    I have been probably about 500 miles in a day in my VR, I feel like I would trust the car that I could drive it a 1000 or more, but I have had it in bits and checked everything, and just replaced quite a lot of things in my ownership, and I have scrutinised it at least once a week for a couple of years that it has given me the confidence to say this lol.

    There's 3 main oils that you can try. You have to be certain that any you get are GL4 as GL5 will dissolve the brass in the gearbox. First is the fully synthetic version of VW gear oil, last time I looked it up it had a G52 code. Make sure its the fully syn for a 4motion though, the VR stuff is mineral. Second and third is redline MTL or MT90. MTL is 70w80 and is very good. MT90 is 75w90 so is a little bit thicker and is also very good. I looked up all kinds of shear tests etc when I changed mine and the 70w80 MTL most closely matched the viscosity and film strength of the VW stuff. I ha

    Have you looked at the wishbone bushes? They could be moving over much and the wishbone contacting the subframe.

    The threaded rod is supposed to move but with a very damped movement, there isn't supposed to be any free play. This is the same for the ball joints too.

    The reflection is pin sharp and flat though so you can still tell that it would look good.

    It's under the air box it controls the vacuum to the charcoal petrol vapour filter under the headlight, its not important.

    You can bridge the fan speed controller to check operation for for the life of me I can't find it from my phone.

    You can get them off eBay, I got them from a local trade body shop supplier, you can't just get them from like halfords, there are a few different types, like higher mount, lower mount, triangular or square. These are all for different locations on the mouldings so make sure you get the right specific ones you need.

    I had this with mine its like the clips lose their tightness, all new clips and the little rubbery caps for only a few quid and they needed a good fist bang to get on and were on good and tight again.
