  1. Well I'll soon find out, I've just set fire to my wallet again and bought a genuine one.
  2. Ive checked the mounts and did double check the bolts on the clutch and flywheel when reinstalled. It feels like an imbalance.
  3. I noticed that on the white one, first thing I thought was a non VR with an engine transplant.
  4. Nothin looks better than a black mirror.
  5. Yea I have and there's no fault codes, I've also taken the leads off one at a time just to be sure in case one cylinder wasn't firing causing the imbalance.
  6. I've just finished doing new chains, guides etc, headgasket and clutch. I'm now getting quite bad shudder, I thought it was just when engaging the clutch and setting off so thought it's the brand new clutch. The shudder only happens on pulling away or holding on the clutch, once going and through subsequent changes its fine. But I have just noticed now that the engine shudders more in neutral too when giving slight revs, like 1000, the shake goes away after and is fine at higher revs. It didn't shudder before whatsoever so must be something that's happened in this job. I tightened the flywhee
  7. It's taken me about 2 weeks from start to finish doing it when I could, late nights, weekends etc, but I was prob more picky than your average person, like everything was filthy and I spent a whole day just cleaning and another day painting the various parts. We had the A3 so could get about but took more planning and one person had to go collect the other etc. I've had to do the job sooner than I wanted to as I have to not just have a wrist surgery but now have an exploratory surgery before to decide which operation would be best then have it a few weeks after so wanted the car to be in good
  8. I'm about 75mm down and once caught the front splitter on a verge, when I reversed off and drove home I didn't realise till I got back that the splitter had been pulled off from the middle and was pointed out like some kind of snow plough.

  10. Good news, everything still works! Got it started and everything was good, ran it up till the fans kicked on and t-stat opened then topped up the coolant again. The engine sounded silky smooth, I didn't think it sounded chainy before even with what I found to be totally smashed guides, but you can't hear anything of them at all now. I had a single oil drip coming down the little tin gearbox end plate next to the sump, I torqued them up to spec when refitted but tightened up the sump bolts along the chain cover plate a but more and after a 10 mile drive no longer leaks. Also on the drive out
  11. I'm just giving you suggestions mate, I don't know if it is, they are a high density foam so they may be squeaking. As a test to see if it was them you should just be able to take the top hat off the coilovers and slide them off, then at least you can rule it out if it doesn't go away.
  12. I think that depends on the manufacturer, mine have them at the top but I've seen some at the bottom
  13. The bit that got me was they thought beer was flammable.
  14. Today Im gonna get my car finished and out for a test drive, tomorrow have to go through to the mother in laws, then Monday if its nice we're gonna go for a drive to the coast, in the A3 not the VR lol
  15. I do like the dark blue and the finish on it is immense.
  16. Replaced the steering boots and track rod ends last night These were a pain in the arse to get off and this is pretty much how they were on the car, they are so well hidden I never noticed before. And these were even more of a pain in the arse to get on, I cleaned up any old moly grease and dust off the rack and ball sockets and thinly applied some fresh moly grease I managed to twist the track rod ends off and the lock nut stayed exactly where it was, so hopefully the tracking wont be out
  17. I run 17s and live in a very humpy and steep inclined area and can go everywhere about 75mm wound down, get it low lol
  18. I'm pleased with how the plastic can cover and HT lead runners came up, I used wet'n black aerosol tyre gel on them and left them to soak it up overnight then buffed the excess off. They look awesome now.
  19. Got a fair bit back on last night, I repainted the upper and lower inlets too, nice and fresh.
  20. Those wheels were very tight without spacers! Or were they totally fouling?
