  1. It stopped raining after forever so I got the new chains and guides on After checking the timing marks and positions about 9 times I torqued up the intermediate sprockets but the crank kept moving even with a bar on the pulley, so I got a bit inventive Front path crank seal replacement only takes these bits, plus a screwdriver and hammer, the new one is a nice much tighter fit Covers all sealed and the tensioner bolt installed, then hand wound twice more to be certain. While waiting for it to stop raining I re-did the PAS pulley and accessory bracket.
  2. Incidentally, I have found an important detail the bentley manual has overlooked, with 3 different bolt lengths it doesnt say anywhere what bolts go where, while by the positions etc you could do it but still, someone could do it wrong.
  3. Ha it doesn't feel like it, I'm gonna do the chains etc get the 2 chain covers cleaned and ready to to go straight on next. The head bolts, while not being a complete walk in the park to tighten up, it wasn't as hard as people on forums made out to get the final quarter turn on. But I did brush the underside of between the bolt heads and washers with literally 1 little drop of oil to ensure they didnt bind when turning, the threads were dry i must point out, and was using a 3 foot breaker bar so prob just had good leverage. And I had also properly cleaned and dried out the threads of all deb
  4. Did this last night, very awkward by yourself! Painted the head so its nice silver too.
  5. Looked it up, those old E39s are 336 Co2 so if its a pre 01 it'll be same as ours, if post it'll be £270 or summink An F10 M5 is 232 Co2 which is £475 The VR6 is only 199 Co2
  6. It sounds alright, listen to a new V8 turbo M5 and M6, awful
  7. Old head bolts made into a thread chaser, which worked awesomely and handy head alignment posts
  8. Painted up the block, looks like new now Found that some oil had gone into the water jacket when the head came off so I've given it a degrease and thorough flush out too.
  9. I do use this once a year, its awesome stuff, I also only use V-Power which is supposed to have much better detergents etc
  10. I've got the full set of new ones anyway so as nothing has happened it doesn't matter anyway. Where there are only supposed to be 2 pieces, there are many, look at the only very feint chain runner marks, if these are original after 100k that's impressive, looks like (as long as it doesn't smash) it would last like a million miles. Got the head off and wasn't as mucky as many I have seen on the internet, think I'm going to leave the crowns alone as they don't have much on at all and think the risks of getting carbon down the rings or bores outweighs what looks like would be no benefit. The c
  11. Look what fell out when I took the covers off Lucky they kept the timing in order I have to say though there are literally no chain wear grooves on the guides
  12. I took that step last night, I also asked myself "can I put it all back?" and "why did I start doing this?" Lol
  13. Forest gump For these cowboys to go into Indian territory they have to prove what they're made of.
  14. Thats the plot for like every single one
  15. Just ordered my injector service from mrinjectoruk, phoned him up and nice bloke, got my club discount too, wicked. At least I found out where the flecks of rust came from in the fuel rail, the injectors had gone a bit rusty
  16. Oh and I need both new track rod ends and both steering rack boots are totally split right round.
  17. I have begun tearing down, I'm this far in now and finding little things along the way all the time, like its had a head gasket before, performed by a numpty that couldn't even manage to replace all the bolts on the covers, no wonder its been weeping from various places, I've bought a box of brake cleaner spray to try and get all the shite off and going to paint it all silver again. My knocked up cam lock works a treat My shed has more engine in it than the car does now, there's more than this in there now too lol. Yes that is my luxury princess pink mechanic mat hehe The gearbox was covere
  18. Heres mine I dont have one
  19. I'm thinking start getting the car on stands, taking the front off and gearbox off at least on probably Saturday, then try and plough through the whole mechanicals in the following days after. I'm hoping the flywheel bolts don't live up to their name of cheese head bolts too, I really don't want major setbacks wasting loads of time on stupid tiny things like a mashed up bolt. I've tried to get absolutely everything together beforehand for that reason, my only car will obviously be out of action so cant just hop in and go get something :S
  20. Got the final pieces for the engine job today, clutch operating lever and made a cam locking plate, should do the job.
  21. Thought you weren't supposed to clean them under normal non desert bowl conditions that often anyway like every 50k miles or something and that the filter with a bit of dust from normal conditions actually filters the air better than a just cleaned one.
