  1. that is correct, if you are OBD1 they are 280, OBD2 are 288
  2. The left front does wear quicker it even says in the Bentley manual
  3. you will have to drill/saw/burn the original out and the new one will need pressing in, not simple
  4. If you get a welders blanket then you don't have to get the front totally out and just fold it over in the middle cos it's wrapped around the back of the dash
  5. There are a few different lengths and shapes and you need a mix of them all, like short height ones and ones shaped like a triangle, though I can't remember exactly which ones, I have some bags of spare ones I didn't use I can have a look what I've got on Sunday, how many would you need? A for the rear badges I don't know exactly in mm, but the golf is pretty much central on the little panel and the vr6 lines up to the right hand side like right justify in word
  6. got the very same speakers and fitted them just like you did into the stock spaces, for the money they really are good
  7. 357 407 182 for the cylindrical front bush
  8. Lukey.

    balljoint

You'll need a 6mm allen key and cut it so it will fit in the middle, as the threaded post will spin and not tighten up, and a splitter will make it super easy, there's little room with a spanner, zero room for a hammer. Had to modify my splitter too as it was too narrow. If you are wanting to torque it up correctly you'll need crow foot spanners
  9. It's either an import or it was lost in a warehouse / yard for 2.5 years lol
  10. Didn't for me when I undid it, I found that it being solidly bolted on the car meant I could get much more purchase to force them in
  11. I tacked the centring sleeves in with a little bit of grease and brayed the rears in first, also with lots of grease, then the fronts will line up and just slip in. The rears took me stomping them in while holding on to the front cross member to force them into their seat, so you see why not having those washers is probably fine lol Also this seems like the most dangerous job to do, everyone is hurting themselves when they do it lol
  12. The bolts that connect all the suspension components will have been moved, knocking your alignment out, it needs aligning again. Re the vibration have you checked your front wheels are still balanced?
  13. Best of luck mate, the 3 ball joint bolts and plates were totally seized on mine, took longer to get them off both sides than the rest of the whole job did!
  14. Yea I got 4 for the large rear bush on the wishbones, they had what I can only describe as smileys cut out of them that slotted over the raised corresponding smileys on the car in the recess for the bush, it's very obvious once you look yourself. TBH with the tightness of the fit I wouldn't be worried, but the centring sleeves are vital did you get those?
  15. If it says the date of first registration was 2000 then you should be able to put a plate up to that date on the car, presumably X reg, but the fact it has an R reg plate probably means its a 97 as if it was imported and they can prove the origin and age the car gets an age appropriate number plate, if they couldn't prove this it would get a Q plate. Are you certain you are reading the date declared new in the V5 is 2000?
  16. I got the full powerflex kit and used all of them, except the ARB bushes cos could I fcuk get the old ones off but they were hard and tight so I left them. I got them from larkspeed through eBay. Totally transformed the car and didn't really make the ride any harsher, just really tight and responsive now. I've got new oem top mounts rather than poly top mounts which probably attributes to the no harsher ride
  17. if you have no luck they come in packs of 2 p/n 021 133 915 B
  18. Had to modify these 2 tools, I would say these were essential items for this job This afternoon I got a geometry alignment done at a place called track torque in tockwith, finally my steering wheel is straight again and it doesn't constantly pull to the left. Feels properly sorted now and hopefully there wont be anything else for a while as I've had to spend a fair bit on it to sort the suspension out
  19. Just fitted my new ball joints, pushing the joints around just shows how shagged the old ones were. Completely, they gave no resistance at all and had empty slack too
  20. Found out that the incorrect plates they sent are for a bog standard mk3 and the VR6 uses a different joint altogether
  21. Oh and if your battery is goosed I would recommend a Bosch S5 from here http://www.carbatteriesonline.co.uk/ £60 delivered which is an awesome price
  22. Nice another black magic on the site, it will be the rear callipers as they seize after 5 minutes lol have a look at getting mk4 rear callipers they are alloy and much less likely to seize and they fit straight on your original mk3 carriers
  23. I prefer it just displaying the mobile version of the site on my iPhone, I've tried tapatalk on supported forums and I just can't get on with it
