VR6 Supercharged reacted to a post in a topic: POST A SINGLE PIC OF YOUR CAR

Managed to swap pulleys over today and they seem to have fitted fine.
-
you have mail.
-
No problem. I got a guide also for the inlet manifold removal should you require it.
-
Ihave found loads of guides for replacing the alternator. If you'd like I can email you them.
-
If i could stop by I'd give you a hand. Most guides say you must lift up the engine to remove the alternator but i managed to wiggle it free towards where the airbox sits. As I said having the inlet manifold off, helps you see things more clearly. Have you read any guides?

done my rocker gasket last night and as i've never worked on a vr before it took me bout hour and a half but turned out to be easy. Removing old alternator took about 45mins. Easy to do with the inlet manifold still off the engine.
-
After start up the voltage on mine dropped and stayed below 12v so no doubt the alternator is knackered. Checked all the wiring and still no change.
-
Mine is a non-air con model. Already done a voltage check before taking the old alternator off. It was 12v with the engine off and then after i started the engine, it dropped to 11.5volts. Had the battery tested and it read good battery but recharge which means alternator failed. Heres a pic of my old alternator. Warning to all you vr6 owners. Never let a rocker gasket oil leak get too bad.

80 is standard Part no. 075121113D -
Thats weird. One I found says £223.37 and out of stock. Part no. 401442231 My search is based on a 1993 vr6 but their site says it covers all vr6 models between 1992-1998.

I've been researching this all morning. So more than likely you will encounter the same problem unless you get a genuine alternator from vw. Other option is to swap pulley from your old alternator or get a new one and fit that to your aftermarket alternator. I'll ave an answer for you at some point this weekend to see if this works.

And thats what i was thinking also so I asked them to send me an alternative make and I got GSF to send me their alternators too. So I'm looking at 5 different makes of alternators on my desk now all saying for the vr6 but with 6 ribbed pulleys.
-
My alternator finally gave up the ghost other day. So i got a brand new one from eurocarparts. The new alternator has a 6 ribbed pulley whilst my old one was 7 so I can only use a 7 ribbed belt. Has anyone come across this problem before as I'm stuck now on what to do.
