  1. Thanks matey I will pass this on to him and see how he gets on
  2. He's text. apparently there's one at the navy base but not the army. He's at southwick park army base. So if anyone knows of someone reliable down Portsmouth way recommendations would be appreciated.
  3. I'll ask him. I know there's a fishing club lol
  4. Is there anyone in Portsmouth who can recommend a mobile mechanic. A couple of weeks ago we replaced the gearbox on my step sons Mk3 GTI, It was fine for a couple of weeks but he's had to be recovered as he says the bolts have undone on the off side drive shaft. He's in Portsmouth on military police training, at the army base there. I'd go help but unfortunately Im a fair distance away. Looking for a reliable mobile mechanic who wont rip him off. Cheers Matt
  5. Does anyone know of anywhere with real empirical testing of premium priced turbos like garrets versus lower priced turbos such as Holsetts (not ebay chinese rubbish) Id be really interested to see a Garret vs Borg vs Holsett on exactly the same platform to help make more informed decisions when buying.
  6. What sort of set up are you running bu the moment mate?
  7. As a compromise I've seen a number of people mention the soft compound toyo 888 being good for drag use. Out of interest anyone here tried them?
  8. Interestingly the link to the DTA site with Brian Kerchbergers car says hes running a "stock" engine just with a head spacer... If he is it must be right on the limit, on the Schimmel site it says hes running 34 psi..
  9. Are there any vr6 turbos running 10's in the UK that anyone knows of.
  10. Youve probably all seen them beofre but heres the top 40 from vortex with a load of VR6's all fwd http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1631052
  11. United Motosports do you have any opinion/thoughts as to how they produce a large number of rapid home grown fwd VW's over in the states running sub 13 Et's in comparison to the UK
  12. Googling, the US quarter mile is 1320 feet, so what is santa pod then? http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/10/drag-racing-faces-fundamental-changes/
  13. I dont think there is.. a mile is a mile as far as I am aware as it is the old distance measurement brits took over there. Voulme measurements differ in the US gallon to Uk gallon.
  14. Ive been looking over on the VWVortex forum. There seem to be quite a number of VR6 Turbos which have done pretty good quarter mile times. When you look at their setups they dont look anything out of the ordinary, many not even running standalone. Having been to VW action a few times there seems to be very few cars here that crack 13 seconds let alone 12. I think theres 4 that crack 12 regularly (1.8T corrado, 1.8t mk2, 1.8t Mk1, and a scirroco - there well known cars so I wont elaborate further) So basically what are they doing in the US to get these sort of times that we dont see here. Heres
  15. Ok Il start looking out for any old VR6 gbox.. The best bit of video footage should be film of the neighbours sticking their heads out of the windows on a sunday morning when I start her up with just the down pipe on hahahaha :-p
  16. Another odd question .. the gearbox was already sold, but i have the starter. For the purpose of bench testing this, will any of the mk3 gear boxes go on ie 8v gti, basically will look for anything even a knackered box just to test the engine, and allowing me to fit the starter. Apart from that I think i need a MAF sensor as i cant seem to find that in my bag of bits. In the mean time im trying to order some steel box section, I have a big welder but little welding skill 8-)
  17. Scrap that.. contacted the previous owner and apparently it didnt have an immobilser and the key had no chip in...
