Nice build mate, any more info on that shifter? It looks the dogs!

Where do people get there flanges from for making there own manifolds?
sleepymike replied to Jakeyb's topic in Engine Tuning
Really you need one laser cutting from something like 12mm steel, trying to get one right with a grinder and die grinder would take ages! I had one drawn up and cut out of 12mm mild steel for £80 and now I guess they have the drawings so it's just a case of getting one cut which takes about an hour and a half. Try Al from just Caddys on the eBay I'm sure he said he could of sold me one for £30-40, here's a link http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Just-Caddys?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 -
Beware of some of these injector services, I sent mine to be cleaned (can't remember who but was on eBay) showed the results to the guy who remaps my car and he couldn't believe the injector result sheet as they apparently were now flowing pretty much all the same, still had the same fault on the dyno so he took the injectors to some guys he knows to be cleaned along with the previous injector results and surprise surprise they weren't as perfect as the first results had suggested, infact only just within the 6% tolerance the manufacturer recommends!

I'm running an 02m 6speed with haldex controlled by an Exclusive tuning controller in my caddy. Last year it was running 400bhp and similar torque with absolutely no problems. This year I'm aiming for 550-600bhp and was going to fit an LSD in the front but buying a very expensive clutch amongst other very expensive bits kind of killed that idea for now so let's hope I will still get grip! I've been told 02m boxes are good for around 600ftlbs of torque before 4th gear starts trying to leave the box but I do have a strengthener to fit when I fit my LSD.
-
You will struggle to turn sharp corners if you do that, the diff doesn't give any slip for the inside wheels.
-
Mine had to be extended by I think about 80mm. Just measure with a tape, there is a small amount of adjustment/ margin for error in the cv type joint on the front prop so just make sure that's in the centre of its travel and measure it.
-
Hmm I thought about this when I did mine, if the prop and diff aren't absolutely 100% lined up then you will snap something very quickly. The doughnuts take up any small amount of play if they aren't 100% also probably be a bit kinder on the prop and diff during engagement. VW put them there for a reason so I stuck with them! My advice would be for the sake of £50 keep the doughnuts and get the prop shortened.

Club Event: GTI Spring Festival - 06 Apr 2014 (Single Day Event)

Hopefully I will be there, still loads to do till I'm ready for a remap but with a bit of luck and a good bit more bhp I will be in the 10second 1/4 miles! -
Ahh keeping it 5 stud then thats fair enough I'm running 4 stud and I didn't want to buy any new wheels that's why I went sŷncro rear. The splines would match but are the driveshafts the same length? They may need shortening/lengthening.
-
Looks good so far mate, just wondering why are you trying to fit 4mo hubs into the syncro arms though?
-
Good because I have been running an 8.5.1 spacer but I bought cabriomans freshly built 9.1,low comp, forged rod, 3.0 litre block and plan on running that this year. I thought it was more boost responsive but wasn't sure if I could run as much boost through it as an 8.5.1.
-
Forgive me for being stupid but what actuall difference does it make running 8.5.1 compared to 9.1?
-
Ok so I bought matty vrt's big valve head from him a couple of months ago and because it had no cams in it some of the hydraulic lifters fell out and were rattling about in the box when I got it. Now I just poked them back in any old hole so I'm guessing that unless I was the luckiest person ever they aren't in the right holes. The engine is still in bits but before I reassemble it do I need to replace the lifters? Will it be ok? Are they all the same?
-
I was running a log manifold and a Garrett gt3076 with 1.06 exhaust housing, I'm now using the tubular manifold with a gt35 and 1.06 housing.
-
I got it from these guys. http://www.ospreyexhaustcomponents.co.uk and was the cheapest stainless 48mm pipe I could find on the net, I bought 12 90 deg bends and 6 135deg bends, and only have a 1 of each left! A divided mani would be done pretty much in the same way but just a different flange and slightly different collector.
-
I've just made a tubular manifold. It's not twin scroll though! Made from stainless bends and just migged together (apparently migging means less chance of the welds cracking) About 40hrs work and I still need to make some supports and I'm going to wrap it in exhaust wrap. Oh and it's a mk1 caddy engine bay so very little room

Ok so I need a new clutch to cope with 550- 600bhp and similar sort of torque ratings. I need a 24v v6 4motion clutch (02m DRP 6speed box) and will probably go twin disc, needed mainly for dragging but also for limited street driving. I'm currently torn between Spec and Clutchmasters fx850 The Spec twin disc is half the price of the clutchmasters and holds 800ftlbs of torque, but I've seen a lot of bad reviews and rubbish customer service reports on the web. http://www.specclutch.com/cars/Volkswagen/Golf_IV/2003/Mini_Twin The Clutchmasters seems a better clutch but only judging by internet fee

I'm not spinning all 4 wheels yet and Im running federal rsr's. Planning on fitting a quaiffe diff at some point aswell. Im running Omex management and launch control is an option but it's not proper launch control it's just an ignition cut. Maybe next year I will upgrade my management! -

Ok here's my contribution Mk1 Caddy vr6 turbo with 4motion, this last season 2013 I was running 401bhp and 400ftlbs of torque. My best time of the season was an 11.4 second but this next year I'm aiming for a 10second 1/4 so currently changing/upgrading pretty much all of the engine, cooling and turbo and pushing for 550-600bhp or basically as much as I can get! Here's a nice vid from gti international of me racing a 6.3 AMG Merc on drag slicks, not my best time as it was about 32degrees! -
You can get smf flywheels for the o2m DRP box because I'm using a helix paddle type one! It's for sale aswell if your interested and it's done less than 1000miles.

I'm just about too sell my Garrett gt3076 turbo with either a 0.63 or 1.06 housing on it, and it's only done about 500 miles. Also got a set of 6 Siemens 630 injectors, a spa log type exhaust turbo manifold and Helix v6 4 motion paddle clutch and single mass flywheel that's rated to 350ftlbs of torque but I've been dragging with it this year and putting 400ftlbs through it and absolutely no slip at all, again that's also done less than 500miles. If your interested in anything pm me?
-
Do you think that would that give a better flow than a spa log type manifold?
-
I've been thinking about making one of these aswell! What do you think the quality of this would be like? The price doesn't seem to be too bad for what it is! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390472993718?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Bigger turbo Fit low comp pistons and rods Bit of head work Yet another rolling road remap session Try to tidy the bay a little Cut out scuttle panel to give more room Try and shed some weight! (On the car) And anything else that the next 2 1/4 mile days I have planned break or bring to light!
