Took this photo on the way back from the VW show at Stonor Park
Dragon Dave replied to Dragon Dave's topic in General Chat
Yes it is a photoshop job. Sorry to mislead you all but I wanted to see how long it took before someone noticed. It's quite obvious when you notice that the truck has a refrigeration unit on the front. I like to think that VW cars are so cool, that they need to keep their parts chilled. The cars in the wing mirror were not dubs in the original photo, they were some other cars that are not as cool as a VW. Only one of friends noticed the refrigeration unit, and no one else noticed it was a fake even though they can see the picture much bigger. How did your boss spot that it was a chop? -

You can't see what's in the mirror very well. It's a MK1 Golf, a Bay window and a Split screen. -
Automatic window closure

They work fine again now! -
When I lock my car with the remote fob, the windows should automatically close but they don't. It worked fine until today. I tried locking the car with the key and holding the key and the windows close like they should do but they don't do it with the key fob. Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

I felt the same about what I wanted with my car. I do feel all the bumps in the road but it's not a bone shaker. My car feels solid and the handling feels sharp but the ride is still comfortable. A friend of mine has FK coilovers and his ride is much worse than mine, it's more bone shaking and the handling is not as sharp. If you want to sharpen up the handling and have a comfortable ride, then you need some good shocks. I don't know anything about the ARB's, that is something I will look into soon.

Hi, I went to Stoner park yesterday, I had a great day out. I found an aftermarket steering wheel on one of the stalls. It's a classic one from the 1960's, made by Superior Performance Products in the US and called The "500" It's looks like a steering wheel from a go-cart or a speedboat. I think it will look cool in my car as a little personal touch on a car that is standard apart from the wheels. The guy that was selling it had a boss for it but it wouldn't fit a golf. He said I need to get a Grant steering wheel boss that fits the new wheel and fits a golf. On the Grant Products web site, t

I'll be going to this one!

You say you have lowered springs but don't mention shocks. Then you ask about decreasing body roll and sharpening handling, if you are still running standard shocks, I would suggest some stiffer ones. I don't know what the standard ones on the 4mo are like but if they are like the standard VR6 shocks then they need to go. I would replace the shocks and get poly bushes and then ask about ARB's. I have standard ARB's, I will upgrade them at some point but I'm very happy with the way my car handles at the moment. I'm running on Koni sport adjustable dampers with Powerflex poly bushes.

vr6 suspension same as gti??
Dragon Dave replied to jay1981's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I had some springs and shocks for my GTi The kit was for a mk2 but I was told it would fit the mk3. I used the front springs and shocks from the kit for my mk3 GTi and I still have the rear springs and shocks. When I got my VR6 I tried to fit the rear springs and shocks from the GTi kit. They shocks were a different length so they wouldn't fit. -
If you can drive it, then book it in for an MOT in your town and if you get stopped on your way home, you say you are on the way to the MOT station. You are allowed to drive the car to the MOT station with out tax and MOT but I think you should be insured. When you get home, phone up and cancel the MOT unless you want to take it there to find out what it needs.

I get roughly 45 in 1st, 65 in 2nd and maybe 105 in 3rd. That's just getting to the redline but they are the speeds that the speedo says, so we can assume that's more like 40, 60, and 100. I have 205/40/17 on mine. I'm not sure how it makes a difference but I read other threads saying that you get less wheel spin with 17" wheels than with 15". Is that because the circumference is different?

occasional misfire and backfire
Dragon Dave replied to Dragon Dave's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Surely it can't still be my coilpack? It's brand new from VW. I got a brand new one 'cos I didn't want to mess around trying second hand ones, It cost me £185 so I will very disappointed if it is the problem. -
I have the Laserline 996 alarm. I need to turn off the automatic arming of the system when I get out of the car and also the beep beep when I unlock the car. Does anyone else have one of these alarms? Does anyone know the codes for programming the functions of the alarm?

Very occasionally, when the car is under load in low revs, like pulling away from a speed bump below 2k revs, the car grumbles, like it's not firing on all six, then after a couple of seconds it backfires and then it's fine after that. The car runs very well 99% of the time just occasionally I get this problem or sometimes it's just a single misfire in the low revs. First I changed the plugs and leads, I used the plugs that were recommended on this site and I got some leads recommended by the local parts shop and the problem was still there. I searched on this site and found many misfiring pro

Is your car standard or modified? What wheels/tyres do you run on?

On a closed private road Of course! I only ever drive fast on a closed private road! In 2nd gear I get to about 60mph and 3rd I get to 100mph. I haven't checked what speed I'm doing in 1st, 4th or 5th at the redline.
-
I have never gone into the red on mine. 6400 revs is the highest I've gone in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and I'm not sure how high I have gone in 5th, I was too busy looking at the road. I have never hit a limiter.

Looks very nice and shiney. I wish I had the money for a full respray.

I think it could look good, if it's done in the right way. The one on that rover was rubbish but the one on the Golf above looks a bit better.

Dragon Green has five pearlescent colours in it. They range from very subtle to extremely subtle. On top of the Green Metalic there is Black, Blue, Gold, Silver and White pearls. The Black is the most obvious, then the Blue but I didn't see the other three, I was told about them by a guy that works in a spray shop. I think it's the best colour. Some of these shots are from the same angle but with different light to show the different colours of the paint.
