  1. I wouldn't mind being on the outdoor stand if we have one? I'll be at the show regardless but would be nice to give the highline a debut show to aim for
  2. Good to see someone doing a proper job, these so called "show cars" are always the same, all fur coat and no knickers! Looking forward to seeing the outcome of this
  3. Well a few more bits done to the old girl, fitted a spare chipped ECU I had lying around from my old VR not sure if its really made a difference as this engine isn't really modified compared to my last one so might take it off for a while. Gave the throttle body a good clean out as I could tell it wasn't just coming off throttle as well as it should, then I also found this Pretty common problem on VR's and glad I found it before it got any worse. Luckily I had a good condition spare sat in my tool box so that was an easy fix ;D Todays little mod was a set of damned near mint hella q
  4. Cheers I am really happy with it so far. Really want to spend a day on it giving it a good detail ready for winter but thats not gonna happen any time soon.
  5. Cheers guys, I'm running 195/40R17 Hankook S1 evo's. The same size and make I was running on my Raceline RL7's on my last VR so knew they were good tyres and offer excellent grip in the dry and wet. Fitted some standard headlights last night and my hella quads have arrived today so will get them on tomorrow along with standard fogs/indicators and see how it looks with standard VR rear lights too. Soooo many plans and never have time to do them. Really hoping to get on the club stand for ultimate dubs too and if I do I'll treat the old girl to a full respray
  6. So the new wheels are on! A8 monoblocks in 17x8 ET48 with 30mm adaptors on the front and 35mm on the rear! Need to sort the ride height out a bit better and tweak the front camber in a bit but on the whole I'm very happy with them.
  7. Cheers guys its getting there, new wheels are here tomorrow along with tyres and adaptors so it should look a lot better by the end of the week as those awful headlights will be going, standard fogs and indicators will be here too. I've also been tempted to get hold of a standard boot lid and pair of bumpers for it too! I'll get some pics up during the week of last weeks jobs and progress too
  8. Cheers guys, yeah I was lucky with that one! Got so many things to do but going away in a few weeks so need to watch the pennies!
  9. I've finally managed to get myself another VR6 sorted I've bought a mulberry highline VR6 as it ticked all the boxes I wanted. Ideally I wanted a 3 door but decent 3dr's are either silly money, thrashed, knackered or rotten. The car is in very good condition but I want to take it up a notch ready for show season starting again in March. So the list of planned mods are: Set of wheels, not sure what to go for yet but something shiny and with a bit of dish. Recaro front seats in black leather Full respray Supercharger!! So this mornings task was to give the car a good look over, lift
  10. I'm picking this up tomorrow and would love to be on the list for the stand. I'll be there all weekend for definite too It'll be on different headlights and wheels by March though and hopefully supercharged
  11. Looking forward to this, gonna give the car a good clean shortly. I'll also have my laptop with VW dealer diag software on it. Looking forward to meeting everyone, just wish my car was a bit tidier :-/
  12. I'm going away at the end of next week for a couple of weeks so if you PM me for any reason and I dont reply dont worry I'm definitely coming, wouldn't miss it for the world. You've got my address so just send it when your ready
  13. The picture does make it look a bit better than it is as you cant see all the touched in stone chips on it haha! But on the whole I'm pleased with the results
  14. Thats fine Pete was just making sure it had got to you looking forward to the show. Spent a few hours on the bodywork tonight trying to get it looking a bit better ready for Tatton in a few weeks. Gave the car a wash at work, then clayed the whole car, next was a coat of Poor Boys black hole and then finally a coat of Dodo Juice purple haze wax. Safe to say my arm is knackered but the car looks worlds better for it! Just a couple of reflection shots which do flatter it slightly but it does shine really well for a 17yr old car!
  15. Yeah its going well, just the bodywork to sort out but thats in a few months time. Did you get my PM Pete about the Tatton show pass?
  16. Well the cars been running pretty sweet for the past 500 miles since I did the repairs which is good. I noticed the throttle body wouldn't adapt though and traced it to a knackered motor in the throttle body so luckily a chap on here was breaking a mk3 VR so I went and bought a few bits. Fitted the throttle body and a chipped ECU and now it fires up and runs so much better than it ever has done which is a good result. Also bought a short shift gear selector which I'll get round to fitting soon. Also bought a new set of coilovers last month from Venom as 2 of mine were leaking pretty badly. I
  17. I've been tempted to buy one of these as I've got a mystic blue VR but mines a late spec. I did buy an otto models mk2 rallye this month and like you said the detail is 100% spot on. They're actually pretty cheap if you but direct from otto in France but have to be quick as they sell out quick!
  18. Well good news at last!!! It's alive :D and its water tight :o Just need to get the damned throttle body to adapt but it wont for some reason? Aside from that its a lot smoother to drive and at idle.
  19. Well the chains are back on and all timed up perfectly, far better than it was so hopefully it should cure my poor starting and lumpy idle issues. As for the leaking block, I'm gonna have to seal it up for the time being and hope for the best. I can't afford a replacement engine at the minute. So if I can make it last a couple of months till after my holiday then i'll be happy. Just waiting on my crank rear oil seal turning up from GSF then I can get the gearbox back on. Going to fit my new rad and oil cooler whilst the coolant is drained out and also got a new header tank so fingers crosse
  20. Cheers guys, still weighing up my options at the minute, hoping it'll go back in and seal itself again until I can sort out what I'm gonna do engine wise. The strange thing is both of the bolts that I removed from the top are the same length so I'm not sure whats gone on? Either he's wound the wrong bolt in then realised and put the right bolt in or the wrong bolt has gone in but kept everything water tight as it's never lost any water while I've owned it? Ah the joys of old VW's haha!
  21. Started removing the gearbox tonight to get to the chains and upon removing the top bell housing bolt a lot of coolant started pouring out of the bolt hole!!! Had a quick look on google and it appears the someone has put too long a bolt in which in turn cracks the water jacket? Ever wish you'd never started a job
  22. I just typed in VR6 tool into ebay and one comes up from a UK coompany, I did think about making my own but didn't have any steel knocking about. I've set about removing the box tonight but upon removing the top bell housing bolt all the coolant has come out of the engine??? Is this normal or is my block knackered??? Never known it on any other engine but this is the first VR6 box I've removed.
  23. Yeah I tried a new sensor first but the fault came back on pretty much straight away. The engine had a full rebuild but as can be seen in my other thread the guy who built it fitted the wrong chain tensioner and I think got the cams a tooth out so now I've ordered a cam locking tool and its going to get done properly. I'm missing driving it though
