  1. You could also try using a battery charger to see if the batt is holding a good charge or not.
  2. Its a good idea, but its not going to make enough of a difference to me to bother with. With the amount of fuel my 4mo burns I need all the cooling I can get tbh.
  3. Also, don't forget that brake fluid should be changed every couple of years as it degrades over time. Wouldnt account for a sudden change though.
  4. My 4motion pulls to the left as well, but I know my front wishbone is nackered as well as my bushes. Also powersliding (or should that be power-crashing) on ice into kurbs probabbly didnt help.
  5. I have a 4motion with 312mm front discs and the standard 4motion 16" alloy wheels fit fine. Theres a pic on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-V6-4MOTION-2-8LTR-/140484012612?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item20b57fea44
  6. I have the VW SatNav in my golf 4mo, it came factory fitted. As far as fitting it you will need a new center consle skeleton to fit the larger unit in, and the GPS ariel is actually combined with the regular ariel on the roof - complete replacement of the existng ariel would be required I think. This thread is quite old now, but if you want pictures let me know.
  7. EBC red stuff pads are supposed to be good for the 4mo, although they aparantly eat discs for breakfast.
  8. I don't think power steering should whine when you rev the engine. If it whines only when turning the wheel, and you've already topped up the fluid then maybie your power steering pump has gone? I'm no expert. Also, the fluid in the system needs to be changed according to the service schedule, those fluids break down over time and become 'spongy'. Essentially its because its an organic compound, and when your using a fluid in a hydrolic situation, i.e. total force inputted in one end equals the same force outputted the other end you dont want the liquid to compress at all (which it can do once
  9. I'll take two, and another one as a spare in case the other two are broken.
  10. I have a mk4 v6 4motion, I'm averaging 21 mpg. Went on a long motorway run couple of days ago, hit just under 30 mpg. These cars really were not built for fuel efficiency, but who cares hehe
  11. I've been doing a little research on those EBC pads you mentioned, they say in the blurb that they are not suitable for 4WD cars... I might be tempted by the 'red stuff' pads though, especially if it means I don't have to clean my alloys as often!
  12. Check your belt tensioner is not overly worn, when the bearings get old and worn it makes a wierd noise.
  13. I've got the 5 door recaros in black leather, but no tilt handle, its got a small airbag symbol where the handle would be. Hope this helps!
  14. Cheers guys, I've come to the same conculsion now that you've said it too. b blaster, you make an excellent point, no point upgrading the rear without the fronts. I think actually the fronts are already upgraded to the TT disks, I've got some invoices from the previous owner. Will check it out!
  15. Thanks for all the replys. I think, basically my front disks are in fairly good condition, the rear ones I'm not too sure about, heres a pic: You should be able to see a bit of scoring on the disk and a small lip on the edge.
  16. cheers dude, might post a picture tomorow if I get time!
  17. Does anyone know what the best pressure for the standard 4mo wheels are, 205/55/R 16's ? I've been running 29 on the back and 34 on the fronts.
  18. Hi guys, My first time here, so hi! Just bought myself a 2000 mk4 4motion (74k, reccaro seats, satnav, etc) and very happy. My rear brake pads were a little low so I've had them replaced and its stopped most of that unbearable sqeeking noise when braking. Whilst I was looking at the brakes I noticed that theres quite a bit of corrosion on the inner part of my vented disks - the standard 4mo disks as far as I know. Question is, should I be thinking of replacing them? I'd like everything to be in good working order. Also, I've seen lots of upgraded brakes for sale, cross drilled and the likes an
