if its smoking heavily under load i.e blue or white smoke then most likely head gasket. check for a white gunk under your oil filler cap, also another early sign for head gasket. as for coolant, a full system flush doesnt require any chemicals, just drain the coolant (ideally from bottom rad hose) refill with water, get car up to temp, drain system again, repeat this a few times then top up with correct coolan, G12, which is pink. hope this helps

vr6 suspension killing me
smiffy replied to hilla's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
check that everythings tight and align the wheels then try again -
rear clusters a.k.a rear light units. they have seals on them and its quite common for them to start leaking
-
had her up in the air regularly at work just to give it the quick once over and never spotted any rust, and iv been going through puddles just for the fun (im a child i know) for ages and only just noticed it so im guessing its leaking from rain getting it. will hopefully get to the bottom of it at the weekend. the other half is away so i have no excuses not to get my hands dirty!
-
headlinings ok, got some moisture in boot as well which kinda makes me think its coming from there. going to do the lot at the weekend..clear sunroof drains, unblock pollen filter bit and try and trace the source of this leak. light unit seals seem to be a common thing so might go for one of them as my mate has one handy
-
got a water leak, leaking into the rear passenger foot well. my initial thoughts are light unit seals or boot seal so am going to start with those. any other suggestions?
-
why not just buy the bosch aero's that fit straight onto the standard vr6 arms? cost 18 quid off ebay and are just as good to be honest
-
how does it idle? my first port of call would be to give the throttle body a clean out with some carb cleaner
-
I would echo what lukey said, and also mention Milltek. expensive but good
-
well i work at a dub dealership so its not bad, trade prices. ball joint, tenner and got new rod end for free...got a donor car in my back garden as well so literally goin to do a straight swap on the driveshafts
-
small update...replaced ball joint and track rod end and noise is still there!! had it running and in gear on the ramp in the air and was having a look...driveshaft was turning in what looked like a very unhealthy way...was not spinning as you would expect, more controlled wobbling than spinning...so next stop, CV joint/driveshaft!
-
got full polys on mine as wel. got the beast up in the air after work today and had a fiddle...ball joint is kaput on the O/S and theres a mental amount of play in the track rod end...little job for tomorrow replacing those two
-
just had a fiddle...got play when i move the wheel left to right when the wheels off the ground...pretty sure its the track rod end (luckily got one in my toolbox at work haha) so will fit that tomorrow and update ya
-
only reason i think CV is 'cos when i put my coilies on the joint just kinda fell off...i replaced it properly with new grease etc just kinda hit me as odd that it just...fell off. normally there a c***t to get off lol. il have a fiddle around and let you know what i find. got a donor car i can swap bits with just to test theories
-
got quite a load knocking/cracking noise under heavy braking or harsh accleration. pretty sure its the CV joint...mate raised the point it could be loose engine mounts but drove down road with bonnet open and head out window watching the engine (lol) and it wasnt moving. any thoughts?
-
haha now thats embarrasing

OBD1 rims on OBD2 - will they fit?
smiffy replied to desduggan's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
i think on earlier VR's i.e OBD1 the discs were 280mm, 16's will fit over 288's but dont think 15's will. hope this helps -
Top mounts and bearings?
smiffy replied to editionmatt's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
only thing id do is get all new mounts, doesnt cost a lot (just replaced all mine for about 40 quid) and its worth doing whilst their off. not sure if there are any uprated bushes available, but the ones on mine are standard and feel fine -
hey russ, who are you insured with mate? those quotes are decent and i got my renewal coming up
-
yup im kinda the same, only thing stopping me is money and my age (cant get insured on one yet haha) but as soon as i have the funds im getting an evo 8
-
ah sweet thanks, im new to this whole schrick set up thing
-
hes right ya know, removed from a colour concept. jus had a poke around and found £15 in the ash tray!! haha also on the schrick manifold, thers a breather that runs off a solenoid valve to a sensor and then a white wire which runs behind the soundproofing and im guessing into the cabin..any ideas about this?
-
Looking for an obd2 schrick vgi elbow, the thing at the back of the manifold that fits on to the TB. Thought id see if anyone on here has one before i give g-werks or stealth a call, ta
-
