I did indeed indeed post the same questions on both forums (well spotted!) as there are people who are only on one forum and not the other, so I saw no reason why I should only post on one forum. The bump's were to keep the topic on the main page so people who hadn't seen it could see it and offer a different opinion/advice that hadn't already been given. So, thankyou to everyone who read this and an even bigger thankyou to those who contributed advice. It has been invaluable. Food for thought - The club asked for people to contribute to articles, posts etc to help the club stay active and de

I’ve been a member of the site for quite a while and found some very helpful info and advice, so I thought it’s about time I contributed a bit more to the site. So far my VR6 has been my daily driver since I bought it a couple of years ago (with Milltek exhaust and Piper-X panel filter), had its chains done and a new clutch around 90K and on 111K now, and the mods so far have been an LPG kit (fitted soon after I bought it & worth its weight in black gold!), a G60 3.68 final drive (amazing mod!) and a selection of air filters, finally settling with a modded airbox w/ K&N panel. I r

Dug around on the HMRC site via Google and unless Autotech can value the cams at £15 or under then anyone buying the cams will have to pay the Import VAT of 20%. ;-( So nice cams or not, at nearly £300 it turns out to be dearer than I first thought. Back to fleebay and the forums to hunt for a set!
-
Right then, I signed up for a normal customer account and got costs for shipping etc...here goes (based on today, 22/11 exchange rate of £1.59/$1) : Autotech 262 Cams - £136.46 ($216.97) UPS Worldwide Delivery (2-3 days) - £98.27 ($156.26) Total of - £234.73 ($373.23) So far, so good...however there's two things that need to be taken into account ; the Custom Duty & Import VAT (paid on items above a certain value, but what that is I dont know!) According to the HMRC, the Custom Duty is on average 5-9% of the actual item's value, so worst case is 9% = £12.28, and Import VAT (20%) if th

I've emailed Autotech this morning - however they're on PST so they're 8 hours behind. Hopefully I'll get a quick reply. I've asked them about the springs too so we'll see what they come back with.

Just had an email arrive from Autotech...they've got a Black Friday sale on until Monday 26th with a non-too-shabby 30% off pretty much all products...including their 262 cams that for the next 4 and a bit days are £137 for the pair! Even with shipping and import duty they're worth considering! :-d Autotech Cams! Methinks Christmas has come early :-) Steve.

Converting the VR6 to run on LPG
donpulsar replied to donpulsar's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Converting the VR was one of the best things I've done - currently paying 69.9p - 71.9p/litre! Had mine done at Profess in South Wales - found them via Google - http://www.professautogas.co.uk - took a day to do the VR but its a nice part of the world so turned it into a mini holiday! They have a small army of fitters that know what they're doing, so the job was done quickly (dropped car off 8.30am) & when we returned to pick it up at around 3-4pm they were just finishing off the mapping and not had a problem since it was done. My tank is a 60 litre (full capacity 45 litres) doughnut tan -
OBD2 inlet manfiold mod and chip/remap and BBS?? All advice welcome :))
donpulsar replied to P265ajo's topic in Engine Tuning
As for the brakes, my RX2s' were fine with standard pads but for some reason I needed some spacers on the front to clear the Greenstuff Pads I put on. :-) -
OBD2 inlet manfiold mod and chip/remap and BBS?? All advice welcome :))
donpulsar replied to P265ajo's topic in Engine Tuning
The obd2 inlet hack/chop/slice weld mod, or the "Euro 2.9 mod" as it's known in the US seems to crop up on most VW forums - but from everything I've read anyone who's done this (then done a back to back test on the rollers) has found they gain pretty much 0 bhp and can lose torque ; the way the 2.8 one is shaped even though it appears restrictive does give good torque. It may differ if you did this on an OBD1 VR6 (or put a corrado one on an OBD1 Golf) - I guess if you're handy with a drill then you could buy a corrado VR inlet and re-drill it for an OBD2 throttle body (unless its off an obd2 C -
I'd be interested in one with no spouts :-)

I've got LPG on my VR & the way my system works is the gas ECU basically follows the mapping on the main ECU & you can then tweak the gas map via a cable hookup to a laptop. There's even a turbo option on my gas mapping software. So depending how your gas is setup, you may well be able to get your petrol ecu remapped & a couple of setting changed on the gas ECU & then you'll be sorted. Best to check with whoever installed the LPG but I'd say you wont have a problem! :-)

Have got the G60 final drive in my VR and it transforms the car ; accelerates like its got a rocket up it's bum and turns it from a "cruiser" to a "bruiser". (6) Can't remember about 2nd gear performance (the VR's currently being repaired but hope to have it back before the week's out then i'll let you know). As for the motorway, I believe it cruises at 70mph at a little over 3000 rpm ; however if I was to get it done again I'd get a 5th gear out of mk3 diesel put in to bring the motorway rpm back down a bit. Its best to find someone who know's their way around gearboxes to do it as there's

Bushes can wear on the linkages causing sloppy shifts (having my gear linkages overhauled with new bushes etc as we speak) and from what I've read you can adjust your gearchange from inside the car/under the bonnet, there's some articles on vwvortex.

288 mm discs reviews and comments needed
donpulsar replied to ssaunders's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I've got braided hoses, standard 288 discs, Greenstuff pads (Front) Standard Pads (Rear) and some 5.1 brake fluid & all that works really well on my lightly modded VR (filter, decat, exhaust). The Greenstuff's are certainly an improvement over the standard front pads. Hope that helps :-) -
Hi All, My gearbox mount has expired and I'm looking at what options I have - obviously there's the vibra-technics one, but I've heard I can use a Mk2 Golf TD / Mk3 Golf TD gearbox mount as they're all rubber rather than oil filled and apparently they're a straight swap? Can anyone confirm this? Any help much appreciated! :-d Cheers!

Hi all, Hoping some of you guys running uprated engine mounts can help ; my standard rear engine mount is shot to hell (gone thru' 2 so far) and I'm loathed to get another standard one that'll do the same in a few months so am after some advice as to what to get? I know that I don't want a solid engine mount so been looking at alternatives...had a look at VT Engineering (their's looks exactly the same as their front one but with a longer bolt so no mountings to screw onto the subframe) & Vibra Technics (looks nice & shiny but would only bolt to the subframe and not sit in it like the

Previously the law has been that if your vehicle had a cat fitted from 1994 onwards then the emissions needed match certain levels - irrespective of having an actual CAT fitted. (Rather than just "is the engine on and making CO" that cars upto 1993 get!), I took the VR for its MOT today and was told by the Tester that from Jan 1st 2012 if your car left the factory with a cat and was registered 1994 onwards, then a CAT MUST be fitted, as having one fitted will be one of the items that are checked as part of the test & you'll fail without one fitted, irrespective of how good/clean your emmi

Holy sh*t dude, the VR looks awesome! :-D

That...is...awesome! The wrap job looks spot on - and the car looks amazing! :-D
