What route are you taking?
-
Have always used semi synthetic 10W40 in mine with no problems :-) As for where to get it, try your local motor factors & supermarkets..Tesco can be well priced (Castrol 10w40 etc). No point getting your pants pulled down by shopping at Opie! ;-)

What are these wheels?
donpulsar replied to donpulsar's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Don't have any, just enquiring after seeing them on a VR on here! Look quite good I think (especially painted!) -
Since I've had the VR the gearshift has been a bit poo, with a fair bit of sideways play in 3rd and general "stirring of porridge" feeling from the box itself. Now the box is undergoing a rebuild with a G60 final drive :-D & I'll be adjusting the linkages when it goes back in, but whilst all the bits are out what bushes can i change etc to help improve the situation? (I also had knackered engine mounts which prob didn't help!) Cheers, Steve.

They're certain round ones ;-) they're also 5 stud fitment (couple of em on ebay but no full sets with centre caps)... -
As above! I think these were factory fitted to some of the Mk3 GTi's, but do they have a "name" or manufacturer..and why is it so hard to find a full set!? Cheers!

Try this link, quite useful info... Gear Ratios, Box Codes and where they're found Hope this helps :-)

I know I should've asked this sooner, but does anyone know the VW part numbers for the 3.68 crown & pinion setup and the TDi 5th gear (plus any other part numbers like the new bolts etc etc!) ? Thanks in advance guys! :-)

LOL, wish I had the money, but with a list of repairs as long as my arm I dont think the budget will go that far :-d Was looking to have the std one machined? :-)

Thanks for all the info guys - it's been a big big help :-) Gearbox should be off the car in the next day or so, and we'll see what the damage is! Can anyone say if having the flywheel lightened will help, and if so, by how much? Cheers!

Hi Pete, Cheers for the quick & informative reply - looks like it's something I'm definately keen on (& I don't mind cruising at a few mph lower on the motorway!). Will see what others come back with and contact DanH about some tips on the building side of it! Thanks again! :-D PS - Someone I know has a G60 box...and has asked me to make them an offer on it - any ideas on what it's worth? (and should it have "CDA" as the code on the box?) Steve.

Hi All, I need some gearbox advice & am only asking as a trawl thru' the 35+ pages of search results hasn't yielded everything I think I need :-) Basically, the gearbox is coming out of the VR due to the clutch collapsing, so whilst that's getting swapped (together with new engine mounts, polybushes, sump gasket, new chains etc!) I thought it's as good a time as any to look at having the final drive swapped over in the gearbox whilst it's being checked over. What I need to know is what people recommend (either 3.68 / 3.94) and what vehicles the 3.68 & 3.94 can be found in (G60/GTI 16V

No Brakes......heeeeelp
donpulsar replied to Timah89's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Did you use brand new fluid out of a sealed bottle or stuff from an already opened bottle...used oil out of an opened bottle and even tho the lid was on tight the fluid had gone crap and had not a lot of brakes! Swapped fluid and after re-bleeding brakes are nice n'sharp! -
Am running EBC Greenstuff's with my standard 288mm discs (work really well!) , am sure the box the pads came in had that they'd fit Mk4 calipers as well as Audi stuff. Got mine from GSF.

Thinking about it - cant quite remember when it is tho'! ;-)

Now that's an awesome machine :-D -
Cleethorpes is dead easy to get to, plenty of 2p slot machines, beach etc. Scarborugh, Bridlington & Whitby are all great places too - further to travel though,

Ultimate Dubs Sunday 13th March 2011 - Telford International Centre
donpulsar replied to cabrioman's topic in Previous Events
Now this isn't meant to offend anyone, but I went with some fellow veedubbers & have to say we were all a bit underwhelmed the show...got there around lunchtime & there seemed to be a lot more modified dubs in the surrounding car parks than there was in the Centre, and with some parts of the Exhibition Halls a bit sparse or empty why weren't there more cars on show ? Add to that the fact that there you could count on one hand the number of trade stands it was more than a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong there were some nice cars on display (G60's, Corrado's, Mk 3s', Caddy's etc) b -
Hi All, Found out to day that all my discs & pads are shot (pads worn down to the metal - ooops!) so am after a bit of advice as to what to replace them with? I've not got masses of cash to spend (all hail to the credit card!) so the rears will probably be standard discs and pads but wondered what to do with the fronts? I'm running on a set of BBS RX-II's which I believe the "312mm conversion" won't fit under; if this is the case do I go for standard discs and pads, uprated discs and pads or a mix of both? Have seen a few grooved discs on eBay that look reasonable but dont know how good t

Dude, the car looks amazing! And there's nothing wrong at all with Lenso's..prob bought them as he didn't fancy a set of v.similar ;-) BBSs' for twice the price. We all gotta watch the purse strings! :-)

Now thats one of the best looking Mk3's I've seen in a long time! Awesome...

Has anyone thought about fitting a Corrado VR airbox to their Golf with a panel filter to see if there's much if any difference? Or has anyone done it?

With an ar of 0.99 wont that take an age to spool up? My Pulsar runs a GT2871R with a 0.63 ar and that spools up by 2000 rpm and doesn't stop til the redline...I aint a turbo ninja by any stretch of the imagination but even on a 2.8 I can see that being a tad on the laggy side! Might be better off swapping the housing to give a smaller ar and less lag?
