  1. How's it going guys. Got to the bottom of the situation. Friend left his car with me so I checked timing and it was out! Thanks audimk312v! Looks like oil pump failed so obviously the timing chain tensioner was no longer being fed with oil causing chains to go slack and jump. In the end cylinder 2 intake valve was bent ever so slightly and the valve spring broke. Had the head skimmed and put it back together now she runs like a dream. Thanks for help anyway guys. Just goes to show with a little investigation i managed to save him a few.
  2. Anyone know where I will be able to source a reliable second hand lump?
  3. A guy I know does v dubs strictly. Rebuild was done over a year ago. motor is hardly driven.
  4. Hmm...worst thing is it's just been rebuilt less than 1k miles ago !
  5. Ok thanks will try that. I'm just a little confused as to how it would be possible for valve damage to occur. Any thoughts?
  6. hi guys wonder if i could get come help here. was driving along in the mk3vr6 as you do when all of a sudden it started misfiring. got to a set of traffic lights and the engine started to sound very tapety like low oil, i then drove home as i was like 2 minutes away and the red oil light comes on... turns out the rod that drives the pump snapped. Ive replaced the pump and shaft but for some reason its still missing. wait for it... i checked spark and fuel all was fine and dandy, checked compression all was good however… number 2 cylinder has zero compression…I'm struggling to under
  7. Woah that's allot. Even on the most very basic of stage setup. Is it worth buying one second hand if so how much should I realsiticly expect to pay?? Are their any other cheaper ways of getting more power output. Only reason I say is because I had a mk2 vr6 and that was really fast. I don't get the same feeling in this mk3.
  8. Hey people I just wanted to know when supercharging my vr6 how much would I be looking to spend on parts only. Thanks.
  9. Drill it out and then nut and bolt it.
  10. Changed plugs and leads and now it's ok. Thank god it's all over. The joys of owning a VR6. Drives sweet now a friend of mine recommended rebuilding the engine because he reckons these engines are nackered
  11. Today I checked codes and checked all breather pipes were ok and every thing was fine. A few codes came up but nothing corresponding to the misfire issue. Tommorow I will take the rocker cover off and check the timing. What symptoms would I get if the timing was off ??
  12. Cheer pal will try that. I'm going to put a diagnostic tool on it and I noticed it misses in every gear between 1 - 2 k revs then it clears up and I'm getting around 8 - 12 mpg before I was getting 24 lol
  13. Any ideas why it's missing and popping ?
  14. Finally I'm done the car is running and am I glad it's finished and I forgot to mention a braided brake hose was also damaged and was replaced. The car has a problem tho. When I am on the motor way in 5th at low revs when I try to accelerate the car misfires and I get popping in the inlet?? Does anyone have a clue on what this could be. It's idles around 920 is this normal thanks.
  15. Cheers dude. Basiccly I took the starte out and probed it I'm bot sure if I done this right. I earthed the body and age live to where the wiring plugs on.their was no action. Then I pulled out the mechanism manually and probed it then it work but only cos I pulled it. I don't understand I think the starter has gone cos it's not spinning.
  16. Same * squarer terminal as the starter motor ** not alternator
  17. Theirs two wires that have the same shoe terminal as the alternator but One is blue and one is red theirs also a single conector on another wire that will also plug into either I need to know what colour was on the starter motor
  18. Right guys nearly their but the car won't crank. Gonna get my probe on the starter and see how it goes.
  19. Does anyone know of a easier way to get this gearbox on when working on the floor?
  20. Cheers mate I lined mine up to the 6 but thought I should line it to the 12 you can see it better. I haven't taken the head off so it is as it was the plate is in just putting the new chains on now I was waiting for the yellow coloured guide that te tensioner bolt presses against and it came today. Once the intermediate sprocket is lined I will put the top cover on temporarily and go round twice on the crank. Hopefully nothing locks up and it all lines up.
  21. I read the intermediate sprocket pointer can line up either with the lower mark at 6 o clock or the top one at 12 o clock. Is this true.
  22. Omg I don't understand how does it knock the timing out I thought it's just like a kind of guide pulley can someone show me a picture of what it should look like I don't think I've done it right.
