  1. Morning all, First of all thanks very much to everyone regarding the help and advice I got for my DIY Timing chains, mostly Lukey and VR6 Pete. To be fair it was do-able but if you don't have a big space and all of the right tools it's going to be a pain! Anyway to the next issue!! Started off during all this wet weather, the lower splash guard on LHS below gearbox came off and I didn't get chance to put it back on. After a while (I think due to water getting into the engine bay) the engine started to misfire, usually under load at low revs. Having read a few threads on here i deduced th
  2. Cheers lukey. Spot on as always. I already had the cable alternator to starter motor connected. Put the battery positive on there too. Battery negative to gearbox. The other was from negative to earth point under battery tray. Put battery in and everything appear s good. All I need now is oil and ht leads then we're good for a start and mot!!!
  3. Android but having dramas linking my Facebook to this forum too. Despite editing pictures down as small as possible they're still larger than 500kb. Getting pretty threaders with it now. Think I'm just going to go for it and ifi blow owt then I will be raging. Can people just confirm the ends of the battery terminals locate where? Thinking negative to gearbox. Positive? This lead with an eye on each end approx 8in long?
  4. I have no option to reply on tapatalk only go to Web view. Can't log in to forum on tapatalk
  5. I can't log into my forum account through bloody tapatalk now. This is doing my head in. If I share on my Facebook page and post to vr6oc, reckon that would work?
  6. Have no idea what I'm doing with taoatalk. Can't seem to even reply
  7. Ok haven't got tapatalk. Will try the photo bucket option if I get chance. Wanted to get an mot sorted Saturday but that won't happen now so it's another week on the bike I guess. Don't want to try starting it up and bust somet
  8. Ok so there are 3 electrical cables I have forgotten where they go. First is the thickest cable on the battery positive terminal which doesn't have any red markings on. See pic. Second is battery negative terminal. third is a smaller cable with eyelet ends. See pic. I think I remember the negative terminal coming of the side of the gearbox housing point. Sorry guys pictures don't work add I can only upload 500kb and the smallest pic my smartphone does is 1mb!!!!
  9. Ok guys. Once again sorry for not keeping up to date. A progress update. Had to lift the engine to raise the driveshaft up each side. Pain in the arse. After then I have reconnected the cooling and air con system. Electrics too but am having a few snags which I'll come on to. Battery tray, wash bottle, painted intake manifold, radiator assembly etc. Think that's up to speed. Ok so next thing I need help with is a couple of electrical pieces. Couple of connectors and cables that I have forgotten where they go and etka isn't really that descriptive. I will take a picture and post for hel
  10. How can I show a pic from ETKA? I have the image but don't know how I can post it??!!
  11. Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. Sorry for the lack of updates. A lot has been going on..... Firstly I have had a baby so trying to do this alongside work and a baby has been slow going!! However, changed the chains, guides and tensioner setup. The upper guide was completely shagged and bits of it were just bouncing around under the covers!! Putting it back together presented quite a few annoying snags. The flywheel bolts had to be sourced from VW (thanks Ridgeway VW Reading), new clutch kit from GSF (thanks again GSF), Gearbox was a right royal pain in the arse to re-fit ont
  12. Sweet, thanks for that. Yeah new clutch at the same time as doing the chains. Having dramas now with the flywheel, the bolts aren't torx, they look like double hex. Going to need to get another tool so I dont screw the bolt heads up. Any ideas on a good way to stop engine rotating as you undo these? I'm on my own so getting someone else is not going to happen. Cheers again everyone
  13. Ok so now I have engine out and gearbox off, struggling with the clutch though. None of my manuals have any info and I just don't want to break anything engine end. Cheers in advance all
  14. Guys, Thanks for all the advice so far, I tried an impact drive with no success, drilled the head to try an easy out which didn't work. So ended up cutting the head off the one offending bolt. To be fair I recon I will replace all bolts, if they dont clean up well. Once that was done, engine mounts off and the front sub frame member out of the way, engine came out no snags. I will be in touch on here to replace the parts I need to! I did break a few rhondda on the

  16. ok fellas, cheers for all the advice so far, it's been a great help. Ok so the drivers side Driveshaft is disconnected but now I have one (previously rounded) bolt stuck in passenger side driveshaft. Any ideas? I need to lift it tomorrow to take lift back to hire place. Cheers
  17. Ok so had a couple of days now to hit it hard. Some has been easy, largely mk3 generic items found in haynes manual. Other more specific vr6 bits a bit more ninja, although some covered in the russek vr6 manual. Summary: Battery tray was pain in the tits as power steer reservoir was seized in place. Air con was absolute pain in the tits. Front panel assembly otherwise pretty straight forward. Upper manifolds assembly pretty much ok. However some screws for the dress assembly plastics were seized which meant they didn't come off intact. Coolant bits were a nightmare as some of the fixings were
  18. Sorry for taking so long to reply, got a baby on the way too! Done it now but had to release the pursue in the air con. Oh well it'll get a re charge too now. cheers though
  19. Hi all, Just after some help on air con. Full bio on my build coming, however, I dont want to break my air con when taking the front apart. Managed to fr ee up the mounts for the sure con pipes. Only things now connected are, pump and a module on the bulk head. Can I take this off the bulk head and still maintain system integrity? Cheers all
  20. Cheers Lukey, that'll help!! G'box rebuild to follow!!
  21. Thanks for all the gen so far. Engine stand has just arrived. Need to assemble it now. Any one used a stand for a VR6 lump before? I'm intending to have the engine out for a while. The fun will commence at the end of this month once the tax is dead and the motorbike is up and running!!
  22. Thanks for all the comments so far everyone. reckon I'll nail it in a month. any suggestions on removing front end? Axle stands the best way to support? Can the gearbox stay in the car or is it best to pull engine and gearbox out together?
  23. Ok all, I'm finally giving in and doing my timing chains. Doing it at home as it will save a considerable amount of cash!!! Basically, I'm after any top tips or advice from those who have done it. I have a haynes manual (which will only be good for dismantling the front end as has no VR6 info!), a Peter Russek VR6 book which seems ok and had a good look on ETKA at parts required etc. I'm trying to strike the right balance between doing things on a budget and replacing things whilst I have the opportunity. Things that I will be doing so far; Timing chains, guides, tensioners, seals & bolts
