check all connectors if all ok get some 1 round with a decent scanner read live data whilst winding engine if no rpm readout then its crank sensor related poss all depending on if theres an immobolizer fault that can cut rpm readings/spark/injectors firing or all of them so get that checked to

yeah u need a decent scanner that can erase emmissions related data because it will learn the values of your current maf if it is knackered your fuel trim will all be to cock the lot a ten pound scanner off ebay wont be able to reset that

im in fleetwood pal !! u can try mine and ive got a snap on scanner and vag com pop over if u want we can scan it and try it

could possible be an empty lifter run it for a bit see if it quietens down if not investigate further !! depends what kind of loud tap theres all different types of tap if u catch my drift

and it defo came out of a golf mk3 ??? the box that is prob being there fitted to rado the sharan the galaxy the golf and im uncertain but theres a merc that uses the v5 engine and the vr6 auto box but dont quote me on that i cant see the bell housing being different but the drive shaft flanges could be although they are interchangeable on most gearbox in the vag range get some numbers off the box and get google image searching

box issues will stop that although i had a sharan lump in my old mk2 on a standard vr manual box the sharan lumps always seem to be unabused

if ur running a mass air flow they dont do a great deal which obviously u will be doing were as on certain cars if they run map sensors they air intake temp sensor has more of a role
