I am new to the VR scene bud but I would have thought that unplugging the MAF would have made the car jerky on throttle and give erratic idling. I see you are from Wolverhampton......Are you ever near Milton Keynes as if so I can put my MAF on and see if that helps. We can also check out both our mounts as it seems they have, well, broken!!

Thanks Jim. I take it will get worse? Is it a sod of a job to do?

I am so used to owning MK2 & 3 Golf GTI 8v's and a few 16v's that looking at the VR engine looks a daunting engine to work on.......Is the VR6 a difficult engine to work on? Also can I buy spark plugs for my VR from Halfords? I am aware I have to buy them in 4's so I will end up having to buy 8 but I get a huge discount! This leads me to my next question.... How do I change the plugs, are there any guides as the HT leads look rather tricky to remove due to the fact I cant get lower enough to pull them off thus worried about breaking?!

Mine is exactly the same!! I have seen a heap load of yellow gunk looking stuff if I look down from the battery side down on what looks like a mount.

This is a strange one..... My 96 OBDII Golf is making a strange noise when in first and second.....Its most probably is making the same noise in the rest of the gears but I cant hear it due to road noise. So when I depress the clutch whilst in first it makes this kind of electrical/turbo noise, this noise seems to ease when I am off the clutch. Also I have noticed the same noise when I depress the clutch to go into second. Any ideas on this?

I have the standard BBS Solitude's on mine. I read the back of the fuel cap and it said for 3 people to use 38psi up front and 35psi rears......This seems an awful lot to me but did it anyway. Is this what others are using as in psi on their wheels?

I was filling up with petrol earlier (Daily event in my VR !!) and this guy came up to me and said is that the OBDI or II. I said it was the II to which he said that my engine is 185bhp as standard? I thought OBDI's and II's were both 174bhp as standard?

Thanks for that Pete Had a reply from Kevin on another thread saying to use wheel bearing grease. Going to buy some tomorrow then take on the task of operating on the tensioner!!

Going to grease up my tensioner tomorrow. I have a load of CV boot grease, will this be ok as I have read the grease needs to be able to withstand high temps and I have not got a clue if CV boot grease can take high temps?!

There are 2 petrol garages within a mile of my house. Few questions...... Shell V-Power is I think 99 Ron and BP Ultimate is 97 Ron......What is the better one? As I am spending a few quid on fuel now I need to make earn some points! Which one of these does the best form as in points?

How much are they bud......Do panel filters really make a difference?

My VR has a Magnex s/s exhaust which has a de-cat.....Would having a de-cat improve performance? Also I have a direct feed to my airbox from the front fog but if I was to drill a few holes in it like Nat has on here would it benefit any more as in performance? My direct feed mod'.....Meant me loosing the front fog light but easy enough to put back in and I have MK4 lights with upgraded bulbs so lighting is not an issue!

Some seriously high top speeds here! Best so far when I popped on the Autobahn the other day (Cough!) was 135mph and still more but I eased off! My 12 mile round trip showed 17.1mpg on the MFA!!

Golf VR6 Corrado VR6 I have owned hot hatches for the past 20 years......Makes me sound old! I passed when I was 17 so 37 now so not that old I keep telling myself! Anyway, I must say my Golf VR6 is about the best as in pulling past 100mph (Private road of course!) All mine has had is a modified airbox and a full s/s decat exhaust. She has good low down torque yet about 3,000rpm she really comes to life. Great engine even though it scares me to look at! So glad I joined as as a Premium member as the 'How to' guides make that lump of an engine look easy to work on!!
-
Firstly I must start by saying I am not trying to promote top speeds here......But!! The book figures for a MK3 Golf VR6 state 140mph......I am sure mine would do that easily as she keeps pulling past 100mph (On a private bit of road I know of!) What can a MK3 VR6 do as in top speed and how about the Corrado as they have a bit more power?

That did make me laugh mate!! Ebay is a nightmare for me not having Paypal. I did have it but then when I paid nearly £400 for an item about a year ago and never received the item and I messaged Paypal and explained my story....So very unhelpful that I wont use the service now as I never did get my money back.
