Inline Filller cap for expansion bottle delete
sedge replied to Treva1990's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ah yeah that would make sense actually. Yeah i know what you mean about the fans, bmw one is massive too in terms of the thickness of it. I'm binning mine and going for a aftermarket slim line but obviously that means chopping wiring which is no good if you want to try n keep that original. -
Here's a shot of the spacer plate lined up with the cylinder head and below is one of reinz gasket..

Does the coolant system not need some kind of expansion bottle though? That would be my only concern with removing the thing completely. At least with the BMW rad it just puts the expansion bottle in a different place. -
Hi guys, So I know everyone recommends using the mk4 MLS headgasket but yesterday I went to install a Victor Reinz metal layered gasket and discovered that one of the holes to allow coolant doesn't actually properly line up with a corrado 12v head! it is only one hole that half overlaps as apposed to lining up bang on. Is this what everyone discovers and doesn't worry too much about it or is something strange going on? I have attached a photo so you can see what I mean: The steel spacer plate the gasket is offered up to in the photo lines up bang on with the cylinder head. but you can see t

Bump for a one time offer to move anything this Saturday!

Hi guys, I'm moving my Golf to a new workshop next weekend (Saturday 31st Jan.) because of this I'm renting a self drive car transporter for the day. Is there anyone around the London area that needs a car or anything moving? Depending on mileage I'd only want £20-£30 to move something, not looking to make money just cover a bit of the cost of renting the transporter. The trucks got a full winch and rachet straps so no worries if theres a engine or not! Please shout up if this would be useful for anyone or people you know! Cheers, Matt

I second the poly bush option, replaced mine not long ago and the poly bushes just slide in nicely! As for getting the old ones out, I used a saw to cut the metal sleeve running through the middle and a slice in the bush then used a big hammer and chisel to persuade them out. If you have the axel off anyway I would definately replace them!

yeah, some great ideas there too. Love the power steering bottle in the wing!

I just came across this page of a website called sr38.com and wow what a mk2 build! Apologies if youve all seen it before but its new to me and just had to share it! And if the owner uses this forum then good on you! http://www.sr83.com/bynumbuilds/?p=26

Hi guys, I have brought a walbro pump and intend on having play with fitting it tomorrow (weather permitting) I want to ask really, can I choose wether to mount it in line after the stock pump or replace the stock pump in the tank with it? The guy I brought it off was running it in tank as a replacement for the stock pump. If I can run it both ways which set up would be best?

Agree with you Luke, even better that it's quite often followed by confused looks that the noise is coming from a mk2 golf

I didn't think heater matrix was too bad but mines a mk2 golf, maybe that makes it a bit easier? Re-fitting the drivers side wishbone after putting power flex bushes in was by far the most frustrating job for me, the locating washers and spacer tube are an absolute nightmare to fit! Well worth the effort though that said.

A quick question for you dude, did you use 4" internal diameter pipe or 4" external diameter and what wall thickness did you go for? Need to make myself one soon too.
-
Yeah they have always been quick to reply to my emails and I like the fact you can chose to upgrade to bosch water pump over the standard one they supply and add things like a ice box rather than just being force fed a set list of parts.

Hi guys just thought I'd post this up, been in contact with an american company called Frozen Boost reagarding chrage cooler kits. They have quite a selection depending on your requirements. And very reasonable prices. I haven't ordered anything yet but am thinking of doing so soon after speaking to them, delivery to the UK is $150 which brings in a complete 600hp set up for less than $600 plus they have offered a 10% discount if your willing to display one of their company stickers in your car. I'm not sure how they would handle a group buy but it could be worth enquiring about if there wer

Golf MK4 rear calipers on MK3
sedge replied to D11PS's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
To be fair I've just upgraded the fronts on mine and now the back brakes look seriously pathetic in comparison so I can understand just wanting to change them haha -
I've got 312's behind a set of d90's it depends what calipers you are running though as I had to take the wheel weights off from just behind the spokes and get the wheels rebalanced on the inside edge to give enough clearance! Also I've stepped up the front stud adaptors to 30mm so they clear! Only running 6.5J on the front though not the 7's you can get. Not sure how much difference that makes.

I just poly bushed the whole golf at the weekend ( well got the front crossmember left to do) If you dont want set fire to them with the rear axel attached to the car I used various sized sockets (quite big) and a clamp to press out the metal pin through the middle of the old bush and then as said before just hack away at the last bits of rubber and sleeving. But if your going through it with a saw be careful not to hit the actualy beam too much.

I'm running a mk2 vr6 that was converted using a mk3 set up which was running OBD2. About a year ago i swapped the engine out for a corrado 2.9 block. Kept all the auxilleries, inlet manifold, coilpack and electrics from the OBD2 that was already in the car and bolted it straight up to the 2.9 block Is running no problem at all.

I'm not aiming for crazy power to start off with but more looking to build with the intentions over engineering i guess. Dont have to be pushing the boost too high and less stress on components really. Although a friend went over to the states for christmas and brought me back a forge BOV because it was about half the price of one in this country even though its a UK product! that sort of pains me to buy anything from forge in this country now haha
-
In the process of building but going to be 440cc injectors, united c2 chip, 8:1 compression plate and a turbonetics T04B turbo with a 38mm waste for now anyway.

Alrite guys, I want to try and talk intercoolers really to see what you all recon. Is it worth going for a branded cooler like the Forge Stuff, on thier site though it doesn't say what power they are rated too. Or theres the usual bargin bucket ebay options. But my challenge is I want to keep the small bumpers so basically I have no room at all for a cooler! I've have come down to these potential options in the links below, any advice or comments would be appreciated!
