Just read all 15 pages, great to look through dude. Definately inspiring me to crack on with my build! Looking forward to seeing a video of yours running.

Im part way through my own shopping list of parts so reading this is definitely giving me encouragement! Did you use a inline fuel pump by the way or just keeping it stock? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

Today has been a productive day changing the heater matrix and also tried (to no success) in sorting out my wiring problem! The problem I have is when the iginition is turned off it looses power to everything, radio off and clocks completely turn off. Also none of the switch lights work or the back lighting on the clocks at all. All the other car electrics work fine. I've had a look at the fuse box and the main earth cable that runs to the battery splits in two, one going to the battery and the other explodes into loads of cables and goes all over the place, is that normal? Its a mk2 w

Unfortunately Im going to have to drop out. So much going on at the moment, and turns out its just really bad timing this weekend. Absolutely gutted though, I've taken my name off the list too so I guess on the bright side that frees up a slot for anyone else turning up on the day. Have a greaty day guys, I'm jealous! -

febi bilstein or OEM? chains and guides
sedge replied to ssaunders's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ive just replaced everything with the fourseasons kit, everything was spot on and genuine vw. had to pay vat when it came into the uk but the cost including delivery was still about £200 so saves a bit of cash if you can wait longer for parts from america! -
I wish I had the space to do it myself! I dont have any of road parking so unfortunately its going to have to go into a garage for it! :/ but the one plus side is I get along with the mechanic well do will spend the day helping him and shouldn't cost too much hopefully! thanks for the offer though.

cheers for the reply dude! yeah I guess it makes sense, if I know its good for 100, 000 miles or more the chances of me doing that again in the car while I own it are very slim! guess its time to start planning heart surgery on the golf haha

Hi guys I know this is a subject that is forever being brought up on here but I have been reading on corrado.net that you can actually use the mk4 upper tensioner bolt and tensioner guideas these parts are more hard wearing than the older mk3 golf / corrado stuff. I just wondered if anyone has used these parts or is it better to stick with the parts specifically for the right engine, I've got a corrado ABV block in a mk2 golf and got lists of all the required part numbers, just in the guide in the knowledge vault on here it doesn't say anything about the mk4 stuff you can use?

Rattling sound on cold start up...
sedge replied to sedge's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
cheers for the replies all! lukey, while its cold the noise actually gwts quieter as you increase the revs! maiden, ive just ordered a new tensioner bearing to change that but it doesnt sound like any bearing ive hear going before! and admin it could well be more timing chain related ive got a 2.9 corrado block in my golf so I would guess that would make it the earlier style tensioner bolt? if I replace that first is it reusable though if I later need to replace all the chains? -
Rattling sound on cold start up...
sedge replied to sedge's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
It's hard to say where its coming from, it's in line with the head though becasue is you get lower than the bumper and listen from the bottom of the engine its a lot quieter. I have been telling my self for a couple of weeks I think the chains have started getting noiser when its running all the time but like I say this initial noise when its cold is REALLY loud then quietens to what I assume is the chain rattle. If it was just the chains would they not get louder as the engine got hotter? -
I'm trying to work through all the little niggling problems with the vr engine... I'm at the point where I'm going to buy a new bearing for the drive belt tensioner and replace the belt too becasue its started to squeek while driving. But I have just recently noticed ( well you can't not notice it) but the engine has developed a pretty horrendous grinding / rattling sound on cold start up! I mean you can hear it from sat in the car with the doors closed! But as soon as its run for a minute the noise dissapears completely which I dono if its more concerning or not! Could it just be the tensione

cheers for the replies guys! they have never bin done as far as I no so would be worthwhile if the box is in pieces. I'm not sure if they garage has done any old vw boxes though because they said as long as they fit they can do it. Just got a reply off tony saying it's a good price if they realise the work involved!

cheers russ, will do!

just thought I'd post up and see what people thought, I got a quote today from a local gearbox specialist to replace the final drive gear. if I give them the vr6 box and a g60 box they'll swap the final drive for £200 plus vat so £240 I guess all together. does this sound a fair price? I guess I'm just purely paying for labour. and heard they are pretty good so if anything else needs replacing while its apart they would ring and let me know.
