Yeh I remember suffering with that in the mk2 lots of fast right handers an buzzer was goin off every corner :-(. I must admit I do push my vr to 5.5k in spirited driving. Mine dont seem to come alive till 4k.. basically if u pushed it for one lap rest it for a couple etc shed be fine. Easy to say until u get overtaken by a corsa an get carried away I guess haha

Did we put down aerial atom yet?

Yeh I must admit engine does always worry me. The previous owner was an enthusiast an it has the correct vw coolant with de ionized water in an oil was changed recently with 10-40 titan gt which was the most expensive an most compliant from b&b componants my local Vag supplier. Small leak from rocker gasket but other than that its clean.

Ok thanks for the info guys. Does the vr suffer badly from brake fade in its standard form?

Basically a load of my friends are goin to a track day at lydenn hill an are constantly on at me taking the vr. Couple of major issues for me is 1 its my only car an 2 being totally standard I think the suspension may struggle. If it was my mk2 I'd have gone for it lol. Are there any particular issues tracking vrs so I know for future referance. Ps this is just lads having a day out I'm not looking to turn my car into a track monster or anything.

Another update (boring day in the office!) As i am not cutting the shaft down at all i decided i would recess the screw heads flush and cut down the threads so they where flush at the back too. Think im pretty much done on what i wanted to achieve for my first attempt. Time to put it on the VR i guess :S One small not i think is relevant, When tightening the screws i didnt find there was a fraction of a mil play in where the butterly sat so i tried my best to centre it an leave even spacing the whole way round

Ill definately be signing up when i get paid HAPPY BIRTHDAY VR6OC im a bit of a newby but hope to be sticking around

Another little update, After many hours with some 1500 grit (very fine) sandpaper and some soft wire wool i took all of the sharp edges off of the ramps and smoothed out any imperfections. Again i am only going very minor on this attempt as i would like it to work. then if i feel like it ill modify the one i take off the car and push things a little further After removing the imperfections i went round it all with a dremel with polishing brush Its far from perfect but its alot smoother than it was at the beggining now intend to give it a polish and then a clean through with some alcahol c

On close inspection i noticed there is oil leaking from one side of the PCV valve (side closest to the engine) Does this mean there is likely unmetered air getting into the engine?

unlikely at moment its my mrs birthday and i cant convince her that santa pod is a good place to spend her birthday (crazy women!)

haha sounds like you got alot of work to do My standard suspension is really pissing me off!
-
Ouch, Definately wont be going round in a stock VR6 then my marshmellow suspension would cost me dearly haha My mk2 2.0 16v would have been awesome, 164bhp and 149lb/ft and felt like it was on rails!

That's ok mate. I pretty much knew I wasn't gonna achieve much but figured least it will be nice an clean. Plus I'm one of those stubborn people who has to learn the hard way :-). One point I would say tho is there is not indent on a ob2 throttle body so it would be entirely possible to deramp it leaving plenty of material. It's just that everything ove read has said not to do it due to the idle.
-
Ok just thought id do a little update on this Thought id do some research before i took to the TB with a grinder, and boy am i glad i did There are some major differances in the OB1 and OB2 Throttle bodies Mainly being that the OB2 is cast and sealed for life! You can still get the butterfly out as usual but i cant see anyway to get the shaft out Secondly after a lot of research it seems you cannot deramp OB2 as it totally screws the idle and the ECU cant cope with it After reading many many different threads from various forums i did find one or 2 positive results from polishing and porti

Some nice work. I wish I had a welder lol -
No unfortunately never been in another vr or along side one so its hard to tell. I think its either bogging down or its the standard suspension and old engine mounts taking all the sting out of it. An ur right I don't want to be spinning the wheels. Just weird that I couldn't even if I wanted to!
-
Just curious more than anything. It's not often I boot it off the line as I don't like to wear out clutch etc. But when I have done I get little or no wheelspin. Dropping clutch at bout 4k rpm. It has got new kuhmo ecsta spt ku31 on the front. Clutch doesn't slip. Only thing I would say is it does bog down a little then build revs, Is this pretty normal...

Many moons ago when i had a MK2 there was a few floating about with a 3 Slit in the right front wing Leading to the Air intake, Always loved it as a mod Is there any reason that you couldnt do this on a VR? Just looking for something a little different...
