    I'm getting ready to replace my headgasket on my Golf VR6 and reading up as much as I can. I've seen the gasket 'kits' etc on ebay but wanted to go VW headgasket and bolts as I've heard some horror stories regarding the aftermarket stuff. Besides the oil, coolant filters etc, which other parts will NEED replacing? I'm just trying to work out whether it's better to buy one of these kits and bin the head gasket, or just get it all individually.. The parts I think need replacing are: valve cover gasket valve stem seals inlet gasket exhaust gasket Is there anything else and do all these pa

    Long story short, I've found oil in my coolant and can see oil weeping from the drivers side of the head. I've had no problems with the car overheating but would rather get it sorted as the engine was only reconditioned 80K ago so hoping to get a few years out of it. I'm going to attempt the head replacement myself and have been reading up on it a bit. Looks like a fairly straightforward job if you take your time. I've read a lot of advice to get the head skimmed whilst it's off, as it could be warped. Does anyone know of any decent machine shops who know the engine in the North West? I'm lo

    Yeah, I've heard about people doing all the courses off their own back, then stories of others who seem to land on their feet by getting a job offer and then sent away before they start, all expenses paid by the oil companies. I have an interview for a Process tech job actually early next month for an oil division of Siemens, so I'm hoping that is half a foot in the door anyway, I'll check out this other spot too, cheers. Does anyone know any of the decent agencies, I don't want to appear lazy but like I said, there's a lot of bogus stuff out there! By the way, I have MASSIVE man parts... Chee

    Hi All. I've been searching on Google for a bit of info about offshore work and how to get your foot in the door. All I can seem to find are bogus sites wanting ~£150 for distributing CV's. Does anyone here work offshore and have any useful links or tips? I'm currently working as a production engineer in a factory, with a bit of mechanical/electrical qualifications and experience behind me, and also part time as a general labourer (7 day weeks atm so not afraid of graft). I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this career path, as there's not much helpful stuff out there. Chee
