  1. you would be surprised Shawy, blinkin heavy motors these Golf's 1580 is more like the correct weight as standard.
  2. after a little research, normal weight for 4 motion is about 1650, so nearly 200 kilos off that, I am happy now.
  3. I got it weighed at EMR on a commercial roll on roll off weigh bridge, they are quite accurate as they pay you for what you weigh in usually. I can't believe how heavy it is even after removing a load of loot from within.
  4. I have been to the weighbridge today, now you have to picture my car, it has no interior except dash and door cards, it has bucket seats and harnesses, I also have me at slender 13 stone and 1/4 of a tank of fuel. Step onto the scales 4 motion........................... 1480kg to say she blushed would be an understatement BUT I find this a bit hard to believe as all the info I can find on the internet about kerb weight suggests 1401-1420 kg and I have removed plenty of unwanted bits that were quite heavy when I lifted them out might have to have a second weigh in I think.
  5. is all the wiring in tact etc?
  6. you haven't got enough money lol I suppose you could source the remains of one of the two 4 motions breaking on here, they will still have the looms and stuff in, much easier job then. Just a thought.
  7. I would buy one of the many cheap 4 mo's with engine issues, keep all the running gear and fit your VR, sounds about the simplest route. Lots of cheap 4 mo's I only gave £350 for mine.
  8. I have a rear subframe and rear diff if you need that, PM me, as for getting everything back into the shell, I think you are a very brave man indeed. The amount of electronics is quite daunting, ESP,ASR and ABS all have something to do with the Haldex system as it works on the principle of the front wheels slipping before it locks the rears in also. I am guessing an ECU is a must also. The VR engine should just fit as I believe the dimensions to be the same as the 24 valve or there a bouts.
  9. lying around as in free or do I have to contribute with money
  10. ^^ as above, no such thing as cheap, I have set a strict budget but already I am falling foul of it as I did not think I would need some of the things. What I have done is stop looking at what I have spent, that way it is only as expensive as your last purchase , definitely do not tell the wife what you have spent!!
  11. That is the idea, wonder if a standard headlight could be modified? I am not butchering mine as they are xenon, might have a trip to the scrappy to see what I can get
  12. I will nip on Monday and let you know. One thing I am looking at, you might know, Headlights on a MK 3, you can get the four light set up and remove two so as they become air holes for ducting, is there a similar set up for the MK 4?
  13. I haven't weighed mine yet, might do it this week as I am off for all week and the weighbridge is only 1/4 mile away.
  14. Just removing carpets and the sound proofing removes a fair bit of weight, then the tar that is stuck to the floor also is really heavy, a heat gun comes in handy for this and some white spirit to remove the residue. I have done this already and will be removing A/C system, electric window motors, rear wiper and anything else I can but one thing for sure, the 4 motion Golf is no ballet dancer, it is a big heavy pig, even when stripped out! What turbo are you going with and have you got your head spacer etc yet?
  15. I would get the fleabay pipe and forget the middle box. Unless you are keeping the car forever and then I would get a full stainless system so it won't need doing again.
  16. I have gone for R32 ARB's, R32 steering rack. I have also changed wishbone bushes for TT bushes as these are solid rubber and more robust than standard bushes. My decisions were double checked on ETKA to make sure the parts would fit before purchasing.
  17. I got them as a kit off larkspeed, specced for the R32 for £366.
  18. I have 26 mm front and 24 mm rear, car is very flat and well composed in the corners.
  19. Name: VW Golf Mk4 (2002) Date Added: 19 October 2013 - 03:38 PM Owner: Swivelonit Short Description: V6 4 Motion Golf MK IV, this car is stripped out and tack ready, GAZ coil overs and Eibach ARB's View Vehicle
  20. 4 motion is the same as R32, this is what I ordered. Pig of a job too. I did this on the ground with stands and a jack, on loose gravel. Subframe hanging loose
  21. OK, I am only in St Helens so not too far away from you. OR you can get them from here, good service too. STEERING RACK
  22. I can get you a new one for £225 and your old rack back as an exchange, as this is what I did.
  23. An upgrade I was unaware of!! It works well and has a much heavier feel to it. Had no problem fitting it other than the rod ends needed replacing too.
