  1. I think this is what I was supplied with then. I had to replace the track rod ends as the track rods on the new rack were much thicker than on the rack I took off.
  2. I have a MK 4, I replaced the rack and was told the V6 has a different rack to other models and is a quick rack.. Never driven any other MK 4 so not 100% sure if this is true but mine seems quick enough compared to my other cars.
  3. Just for thought. I have a mate with a Vauxhall Corsa rally car, it has a 2.0 16 valve red top in there, so it goes well! The catch can has a return to sump pipe for the liquid that is caught, apparently this is how all Vauxhalls have the catch can. I can't see any reason why this would cause an issue as it is only oil vapour that is returning to sump.
  4. Compression dropping gasket ordered from United Motorsport, also ECU will be flashed for a simple 400 bhp out put UM's words not mine. Seems the VR6 is an easy tune. UM, have been very helpful with information for my winter project, thanks guys. Best start looking for some brakes!!
  5. I bet the inspector took it for a test drive, that is what I would have done and probably not brought it back !! Looks great and probably sounds and goes great too.
  6. Slightly off topic.... I have emailed UM about a low compression head spacer for my 24V MK 4, I will call tomorrow as I will be needing one soon. Back on topic... Email received and sent, thanks.
  7. GAZ coilovers, Eibach ARB's and semi slick tyres, corners like it is on rails and understeer.......... what is that then?
  8. I am just bolting it on, engine has knocks or rattles, timing chains are quiet too, so it is a bolt on and see. If the clutch goes I will change it and so on, I am not spending heaps of money on just in case items. BUT as I said above, my car is not a daily drive so not so important if something does break.
  9. I have booked my space in the garage today for mid November, I have the use of the lift and the knowledge of the owner to assist me, most of the modification I will do myself and if I get stuck I have him in the building to assist. I have also booked the guy to fabricate my exhaust, turbo back 3" or 3.5" with a quick change CAT section for MOT!! once we have everything bolted on I will then decide where we go for mapping/ECU and rolling road dyno, should be straight forward enough. Have to sort my compression dropping gasket and then we are in business. I also have some Brembo's lined u
  10. I see, seems to be a bit hit and miss then. My car is not a daily so won't be getting a lot of use, however, when it does go out, it goes on track so I hope it can cope with extremes should be ok if it does turn to shiz I suppose the bulk of the work will be done and only the broken bits will need replacing. Time will tell.
  11. Pete, this tells me people are running Ebay kits... have you got any more info than that mate? Who are running them, what if any issues they have had? Would be good to know.
  12. me too lol My trustee mechanic says it is all OK stuff and will do the job, so i am happy to fit and see what happens, same for the clutch and everything else, these will get replaced if and when they give up. I will try and get some pictures of the stuff in the kit when i am the garage next and post them up.
  13. I have bought a similar package for the 24 valve MK 4, on first inspection everything looks ok, manifold casting is very good and the quality of the turbo charger also looks very good. Winter will be the fitting of these bits and pieces so I will let you know how good it is when it is on and has been used. Also, if you contact Toyosport or make a best offer, I got mine for £645 delivered
  14. Here is some in car from me. It was a great day out, and the car performed well. Good to meet Ingham too.
  15. No mate, no light on the dash, no test in the MOT to see if ESP actually does anything and if it does just reverse the procedure and it is back to normal.
  16. Craggsy, I was very concious that I had bolted all the bits to this car when i went out on track for the first time! I took it steady. The only setting up I did with the shocks was height and damping, I set fronts and backs to the middle setting and being honest the car performed really well, turn in was good, nice and stable in the higher speed corners and even a wheel off the floor in the tight corners. I had issue with ESP so pulled the ABS fuse, this made a massive difference so tonight I have coded out ESP from the ABS module and had quick blast around a few roundabouts and no issues
  17. OK there has been a development, my initial problem was ESP cutting even when switched off, after a bit of fettling and internet swatting uand of course the obligatory support from Ross Tech, I have coded out the ESP part of the controller. So heres how you do it. This is for an MK60 controller. Open VCDS go to 03, ABS Then goto Coding In coding you will see the long number, in my case it was 0023046 you need to subtract 2048 = 20998 this number, your new number is the code, Enter this code and hit Do It! ESP has gone, the button no longer functions and my car corners without hind
  18. Well here is a bit of in car from our track day yesterday, good to meet up with Ingham too in his white MK 3.
  19. Today saw a first target achieved, the whole point of this Golf is to use it on the track, Oulton Park was booked and today saw us arrive a little late, however, out on track we went. Slightly steady at first as I was aware it was me who had bolted everything together!! I was surprised at how well the car handled, nice turn in, good and flat with little body roll and also a good amount of grip from the Federal 595 RS-R tyres. The day did not go without a few issues, the first being the ESP that would not leave me alone, when cornering the ESP would try and slow things down and was ha
  20. Try CMA at Sandy Croft near Chester, he has done a few engines and heads etc for me, all have been spot on. CMA Chester
  21. Air Bag wiring removed and by passed with a 2.2 ohm 3 watt resistor, this is soldered in between the white and green wire or white and blue wire, the brown wire just gets cut and shortened, I think this is the trigger wire if it were needed. Did this before I removed the tar off the floor.
  22. I am sure he will follow Si, I have a busy day, got loads done, including getting the camera installed for Tuesday, however the car stinks of white spirit now as I removed all the tar stuff off the floor, it weighed at least 5 kilos!!
  23. Airbags are now a ting of the past, resistors wired in and no lights, cables shortened and fuel cap opener moved to one of the blank switches on the dash. Tar is also removed from the floor and tomorrow passenger side bucket seat will also be finished and fitted, final prep before my track day on Tuesday is to lower the front an inch or so as it is sitting high after the coilovers were put on. Pictures to follow.
  24. following on from my issues with ESP, I have been unable to rectify the issues, so I have a few questions for you. I am also removing the seats to replace with bucket seats, this in itself is throwing an air bag light on as the seats are removed, I guess this will also be the case when the steering wheel is replaced. I have found two more sensors under the carpets too, just by the inner sill on the seat cross member, what do these do? So, with the above in mind here are my questions. 1, Is it possible to de activate or code out ESP? 2, Is it possible to de activate air bags with
