  1. Thanks guys, I will get me one ordered up, I have the diff to do this weekend and then it will be a few fiddly bits to pass the MOT, once that is passed Project V6T gets under way. I will keep the build up to date on my other thread, car will also be de badged and look very stock with scratches included! Don't want a flash looking polished Golf as this will make it stand out, not what it is about IMO.
  2. I will be turbo charging the MK 4 in the next couple of weeks, all sorts of things have been purchased and I am now at the point of planning compression reduction to about 1:8.1/8.5 I am thinking of a head spacing plate and two head gaskets. I would like to know where the spacer can be bought from and secondly what other options are available for reducing compression?
  3. I go to about 5 or 6 a year, so I will post up each time to see if there is any interest.
  4. OK, I see, track day in the V6 equates to about £100 in petrol, the maxidot on the MK 4 shows 4 mpg when worked really hard! Well, I hope somebody can make it, would be good to have two out on track.
  5. Nearly 30 views and no takers! I am going to be the V6 amongst a lot of whizzy turbo 2.0 petrol and diesel cars. I hope one or two of you can join me to the fly the flag....
  6. I am still quite new to this forum, however, I am meeting up with about 10 guys from another forum for a track day at Oulton Park on Tuesday 8th October, the event is run by Javelin and costs £129 for an open pit lane format. I am hoping this will be the first day at the track for the 4 motion so quite a big deal for me. Amongst the cars the others will be running are, Skoda Fabia Diesel running 365bhp, a Nissan GTR 35 or if the the Skoda Citi go is ready he will leave the Nissan at home. The Citi go is a 1.8T 450 bhp conversion with quattro running gear off a TT, it also has a billet seq
  7. I have been to the garage tonight, I had to strip the replacement diff out of the rear subframe off the S3, this was easy enough, then drained the oil from the Haldex and took the filter out, also drained the diff too, all oil looked good, quite clean and no metallic debris. So, roll on Saturday, the 4 MO will be up on the ramp and diffs will be switched over, oils will all be changed as will filters, the new headlight washer pump will also be fitted. Hopefully the old girl will pass the MOT and I can get out on the road to see just how it drives before I start modifying it. Anybody got a
  8. All info is gratefully received I am sure, I am also fascinated at the turbo modded cars, most of the threads start off well, then progress onto all sorts of updated manifolds, turbo's etc, there must be garages all over the place with enough bits to sell off to the novice like the OP or myself.
  9. For the last year or so I have been doing the odd track day, I have been using the Fabia VRS that my wife has, keeping it simple and having a bit of fun, on the second track day I did and watching a fairly new car smash into the barrier I decided to buy something older and then if I bin it, it won't matter much, this is where I started down the Golf route. I bought a MK iii 2.0 16v GTI, I set about stripping it out and when it was about done, I was made an offer I couldn't refuse by a guy with a MK ii who wanted the ABF engine, MK iii was sold to be robbed of its engine. Then from nowhere I w
  10. Here is my new acquisition, feeling sorry for itself after failing the MOT miserably!
  11. It looks like the ryobi leaf blowers are the way forward lol especially bonnet mounted
  12. thanks, I have edited it now, just says link but it works now
  13. I know that I just used it for illustration purposes. I was more interested to see if anybody had fitted one. I will be asking Russ Fellows to make my manifold and exhaust too. http://www.russfellowsfabrications.co.uk
  14. I might well be the the first then, a newbie and a guinea pig too! My plans for the Fo Mo are the odd track day and a weekend toy, so not a daily drive, these budget kits might well be ok for what I want, some extra oomph on the track and no need to chase all the mods through the car, I don't want to end up in a never ending upgrade from engine through to brakes, clutch, tyres, injectors, FMIC and so on, I will have a chat tomorrow with my VW expert mate and of course if the project blue touch paper gets lit, I will run a build thread.
  15. I read this thread with interest, I have my V6 4 Motion MK4, it is a 2.8 litre and has only done a mere 47K miles since 2002, I am keeping it looking as standard as possible and de badging it too! I plan to turbo the motor with a maximum of 400bhp, running fairly low boost, I see the shopping list above and wonder what you can get away with if not pushing for the absolute maximum power achievable from the 2.8. So, not wanting to get shot for sticking my head above the trench, what do you guys think of this I have seen on flea bay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400244286322?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX
