96 vr6 1st ever project build thread,
bennyk replied to bennyk's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Going through some of the bits I got from the job lot of bits I bought a while back and found this ecu. Any way of telling if this is a mappable chip? Had a google and found a couple of bits (one from dg autotech) with similar looking chips to this, Or has anyone what sort of year car this ecu would've been off? The previous owner wasn't sure. Thanks mate, don't worry I'm still keeping at it,engine out is next on the list once the winter gets here. Managed to get this one mocked up trying to figure out the spacer width for the charger as it's missing! So I can get one made and the length of the belt so I can run a/c; Not sure which engine to use as mine runs well but has done 173k, the other engine is supposedly only 90k odd, but I don't know it. Which ever one I use will get stripped and rebuilt anyway.(winter project:) ) The second one does have a set of piper cams in it though that'll be getting used either way;) . Sent from my -

Borrow his splitter I'll give you a tenner for it!

Does this mean I've got to wind my coilovers up?!

The door looms (where it goes from the pillar to the door) are prone to wires breaking and causing all sorts of problems, just pull the rubber boot back and check for split wires before you do anything else. As even though the central locking run by air there's still micro switches and stuff in the catch that tell the car the doors still open etc. Could also be a faulty catch. Hope that helps;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ahh didn't know these fit, so now I have 2 of these, black sun visors and black interior light on my shopping list! In the last few weeks I've bought a new steering column cowling from TPS, apparently one half was the last one in their stock; Fits perfectly now as my old one was falling apart. Then got some brand new oe matts from eBay for £35 delivered; Then ended up buying a complete gti anniversary interior pretty much for the belts and the door cards being the same material as the recaros, got the belts in; so now I've got a set of anniversary gti seats I need to get rid of although I -

I do this all the time! So what you bought?! I'm still on the hunt for a mint n/s cover as it's got a little stone chip other than that they're pretty much brand new now ! Cost me about £100 and I've got a few spares now! The schrick wasn't an eBay bargain just got really lucky through the motor trade helped a lot by the fact the person I bought it off of doesn't do eBay;) because then he would've known what it was worth! -

New badges and bits make all the difference! Just got a set of brand new or floor matts for mine, surprising how much difference they made to the interior. I fancy a set of black silicone hoses, were they a good fit? -

Thanks mate! It was never the plan to go all out with it at the start but being in the trade it'd be rude not to! (Plus wanted to prove to myself that I could do it!)Got really lucky with a lot of stuff the joys of eBay and getting really lucky with the schrick and other bits because I wouldn't have payed the full whack for them! -

Looks nice, I do love a red one! Reckon I'd get all the arches and skirts back on it though , I think they're quite retro and cool now! -

Not at all mate, we still had a good laugh just a shame we didn't save it till this week and had a 20 mile round trip instead of a 280 mile one! Was a lot more interesting things than dsg r32's and gti's going up the strip as well!! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

A couple of pics of today at Volksfest London, was a really good day, lots of interesting stuff going up the strip including an absolutely immaculate split screen camper with a supposed 500bhp!! Doing 13 sec quarters:o Also won a top 10 watercooled trophy after entering my first ever show n shine, so well chuffed with that! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
How does it drive with the stage one charger on it? As I've got one sitting on the garage floor that I need to do something with! Though I'm missing the little bracket that replaces the tensioner at the moment.
-
Going to look nice when it's all done, that's one of the reasons why I'm not a fan of fancy retrims they never seem to age very well! What's the stage one charger you have? Is it a z engineering? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gutted I didn't enter mine into the show n shine now, I put that off thinking we'd have a few club cars there. -
golf vr6 mk3 door sills - who is best too buy from? any pictures?
bennyk replied to paceo's topic in General Chat
Yeah mine was the same,so I reinforced the front jacking points with thicker sheet metal before putting the new sills on as the outer sills don't really have any strength in them! I'm sure tge eBay ones will be fine, I've always found that most of the pattern stuff is all exactly the same just with different stickers on them! Have a look at my build thread to see how I did it mate;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

golf vr6 mk3 door sills - who is best too buy from? any pictures?
bennyk replied to paceo's topic in General Chat
If you're talking about outer sill panels,I got pattern ones for mine. I only used sections of them, can't see the point of cutting out good metal. They were about £15 a side trade price,I didn't even bother getting a price (or availability)for genuine ones. They fitted pretty well with a bit of 'tapping' about! I pumped them full of cavity wax and can't see them being a problem for a few years;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I wouldn't worry to much if all your gauges are reading ok, just keep an eye on your water level. I'm sure mine runs on when I pull up sometimes.

You didn't have your air con on did you?

Have had to get a bottom pulley machined down on mine as it catches on the chassis leg when turning left and cut a lump out of my bonnet to clear my schrick! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
